cherokee circle just before 10:00 this morning. according to the coroner, someone who was walking in the area discovered the baby and called 911. the coroner's office tells us the baby was carried for 7-8 months. the coroner says the baby is a white female. an autopsy has been scheduled for monday. investigators say area hospitals have been put on alert to be on the lookout for women with symptoms associated with recent birth that may have happened without medical attention. today's investigation reminded people of the search for leonna wright. it's been 7 months since she went missing from her pendleton home. this week leonna's family placed , a teddy bear by one of the billboards asking to help find her. some of the billboards had a typo in the number you can call if you know anything about leonna's whereabouts. that typo has been fixed. call crimestoppers at 1-888-crime-sc if you know anything at all.

an arson investigation is underway after a fire at the former home of a police officer charged in the shooting death of a man last april. the fire started at michael slager's former home, just before 9:30 last night in hanahan. you may remember slager is the former north charleston police officer charged with murder in the shooting death of walter scott, on arms at the time. -- unwararmed at the time. investigators say a glass cocktail bottle was found at the scene. activists say slager should stay in jail, saying he's a danger to the community. he was least -- he was released on bond monday. turning now to commitment 2016, six gop candidates made a stop in the palmetto state with the key primaries only weeks away. they were here to talk about poverty, but the event wasn't without protesting. wyff news 4's corey davis has the story tonight in columbia. corey: standing room only at the convention center in columbia

a few protestors were sprinkled throughout the crowd of hundreds saturday afternoon. [applause] seven gop presidential candidates were supposed to participate, but carly fiorina wasn't able to make her flight. [applause] speaker paul ryan and senator tim scott led the discussion on how to fight poverty. bush, carson and christie were the first to share their ideas. >> it's great to give people a chance to get a job, but if they don't have the skills to get a job, then that's the first step. and all of our workforce programs i think need to be revamped and certainly our education systems as well. corey: governor christie says revamping the criminal system will help low income communities. gov. christie: there are always going to be jail cells if i'm president for folks who are dealing drugs and committing violent acts. always going to be jail cells for them. but we need to get some people who are just addicts and diseased out of those jail cells, give them treatment, because you can't get to work if you can't get out of bed in the

you can't get to work if you're high on heroine or cocaine, no one's going to hire you. corey: dr. ben carson says the country needs an economic stimulus to help bring more jobs. dr. carson: i believe that the real answer to poverty is not government, but the private sector. we have the highest corporate tax rates in the developed world. that is absolute craziness. what i would suggest is a 6 month hiatus to allow that money to repatriated with no taxes whatsoever, and in the process just requiring that 10% of it be used in enterprise zones and to create jobs for people who are unemployed and on welfare. corey: former governor mike huckabee took the stage alone in fiorina's absence. speaker ryan: do you think focusing on inequality is the best way to fight poverty? huckabee: no, focusing on inequality is focusing on the problem. focusing on the solution is how to make it work.

environment of which jobs are brought back to the united states. corey: governor kasich and senator rubio shared their ideas during the last panel. gov. kasich: the working poor, the drug addicted, and the mentally ill are issues. these are people who live in the shadows and i absolutely think, as jack kemp did, that when we rise everybody's got to have a shot. that opens everybody's hearts. corey: some people in the crowd were only there to see rubio, but it wasn't-- the senator was interrupted several times by protestors, who accused him of turning his back on the hispanic community. sen. rubio we are going to force -- enforce our immigration laws. corey: rubio eventually got his point across on how to handle poverty. sen. rubio: i strongly believe that k-12 systems belong of state and local communities, that we don't need a national poor people are often condemned to sending their kids to schools that are failing and so i believe at the state level and many states across this country have aggressively pursued,

we will continue to see rain until the cold front itself moves through. we have very cold air back towards west tennessee. memphis seeing a wintry mix. anywhere from memphis to nashville, up towards knoxville, 1/2 inch to 1 inch, while we just get rain. quite a bit of it. since it's moving fast, no flooding concerns. it will drop a quick 0.5 - 1 inch on the area. you can see the heavy rainfall from pickens anderson county. looking closer, abbeville towards laurens about to see some heavy rain. as does spartanburg, travelers west, and easley. from clayton to clarksville to dakoa down for strengthen county, stretching along i-85 towards atlanta. in the mountains, torrential rain from asheville to hendersonville.

-- future plus model shows showers showing up until 1:30. then the heaviest rain pushes off to the east. by 4:30, just showers. when we are waking up by 7:00, clearing starts to show up. we will have fog and low clouds linger in the morning. then the sun comes out as the morning goes on, especially by lunchtime. more sunshine and cloud. it will be a breezy day, especially for the north carolina mountains, where a few snow flurries are possible. we will start to see cold air begin to move in. currently we are at 47 degrees in greenville. 44 in asheville. expect temperatures to hold steady overnight. we will drop a few degrees to around 46 in greenville, 41 asheville. 47 for anderson.by tomorrow , temperatures will peak early in the morning before going back down, especially in the mountains. look at 3:00, 52 in greenville, tumbling 245 by 6:00.

this rainstorm moving along the southern jetstream giving us all rain. buckled the north. -- the northern jetstream local to the north. the pattern favors cold air and moisture. we watch for several systems to move out of the gulf. not watching one right now. but the pattern certainly favors that as we move forward. you will not find any snowfall on the four day plus. we will be watching out for it. the patent certainly -- the pattern certainly favors that for about the next 2 weeks. that is how long the cold air will lock in. highs in the 40's for several days, with temperatures at night below freezing. patrick, all it takes is one of those southern systems to move from the gulf. you know what they say, if it was from atlanta to our area -- watch out. patrick: i could warm up one individual, hundreds of millions of dollars. tickets have been sold for the largest lottery jackpot in u.s. history.
