the way for the tigers and tied. brad fralick joins us live now from glendale, arizona. brad, it's almost time for kickoff? brad: it certainly is. this is what we have waited for. gameday is a must hear. so close, we can taste it. clemson will play for a national championship with a first time since 1981. the last time they did that, they did it in the orange bowl. 34 years later, another chance. it comes against the crimson tide. the head coach is met for the media for the final time this morning. i want to show you this. the fans has arrived. they have descended on glendale, arizona. this was shot a couple hours ago across the street from the stadium. there were fans everywhere, and there was orange all over the place. espn was broadcasting from this location.

great happenings there. the fans are here, a 65-35 clemson-alabama crowd. a lot of clemson fans have made the trip. to the news of the day, once an all-american defensive and shaq lawson injured his knee in the orange bowl, came out of the game, and had an ice pack on his knee. the diagnosis, a sprain. he said emphatically that he would be able to play against alabama. he said yesterday at media day, he felt like he was 60%. dabo swinney said today he expects his defensive and to play. >> we expect him to play. hopefully, he will be able to perform, and play to the level that we all know he can. if not, coach saban isn't going to cancel the game. so we are going to have to keep playing. we will put the next guy in there. so that's the way it is. we expect him to play. he looked

through the next couple hours, the purple colors back towards tennessee, and the highest elevations, those are the teens. that is possible overnight. the live super doppler shows it is dry. clear and cold tonight. lows in the 20's for many of us. in greenville, around 25 tonight. in asheville, clear skies and upper teens to around 20 degrees. trekking winter threats, coming up in the full forecast. mike: deputies say the discovery of a newborn's body led to a murder charge for the baby's mother. anderson county deputies arrested 23-year-old joanie holcombe. the baby's body was found saturday morning, in a field near cherokee circle. according to warrants, holcombe is accused of giving birth to the child, and placing her in a plastic bag. holcombe is set to appear in bond court on tuesday. tonight, investigators in north carolina say a mechanical engineer is helping them determine the cause of a fire at an apartment complex. one week ago today, the fire

apartments near weaverville. tonight, the buncombe county fire marshal says some items from the scene are undergoing specialized testing. three people were taken to the hospital, to be treated for burns. four apartments were damaged. one was destroyed. north carolina rescue crews say a 45-year-old man died in a fall near a waterfall. crews say sean kasey of georgia fell from a walkway near dry falls in macon county. officials said kasey fell on saturday, but the search had to be suspended until today because of the cold weather. funeral services will be held tomorrow for a longtime state senator. william "billy" o'dell died thursday morning. he became a state senator in 1989, serving district four. that's abbeville, anderson, and greenwood counties. his funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon, at the first presbyterian chruch in greenwood. the service is scheduled for 2:30, and will be followed by a private burial. o'dell was 77 years old. in greenville county, an

say they're forced to live in dangerous conditions. tonight, they shared their concerns with wyff news 4's corey davis. corey: here's a look from our window, as we drove through dixie estates off of white horse road. >> it's in bad shape. it's in desperate need of repair. corey: this man didn't want to show his face. he says he is afraid his daughter might -- get kicked out if he was identified. but he says, many people need help. >> floor damage. the floors are caving in, people are falling through the floors. corey: we saw the damage for ourselves. i took these pictures of the home. the holes are several inches deep. >> it's really a mess out here. but the drama, it's a lot of drama. it's a lot of shooting. it's a lot of bodies be coming up out of here. corey: this busted window, damage a resident says has been ignored by management. >> if you pay to stay, you should live in a decent place. corey: dale bryant used to live in the area, and comes back to

>> she'll do a complaint, or, either she comes to the office, and it's still swept under the rug. corey: we pressed the property manager for answers, but she had nothing to say to us, and would not give a comment about what we've discovered. >> everyone knows that if you're in a home, that should be the safest place you can be. and if you're paying the type of rent that they're paying, around $550, you should have decent living accommodations. and they don't have that. corey: bruce wilson, a community activist, says the people who live here can't afford to go anywhere else. he recently organized a neighborhood meeting to help them voice their concerns. >> no one is calling on that community to be shut down, to be condemned. we do believe the community can be redeemed, and we do believe it could be repaired. corey: for now, wilson says he's looking to sit down with the property owner, to come up with a plan to help make these mobile homes safer. corey davis, wyff news 4, in greenville county.

at the state of the union will be an upstate woman. in 2007, greenwood county councilmember edith childs fired up a crowd during a campaign stop by then-senator obama, by chanting, "fired up, ready to go." that chant would carry on through both of president obama's campaigns, in 2008 and 2012. as an invited guest by the president, childs will sit with the first lady during mr. obama's final state of the union address. time to get your tickets for the powerball drawing, which, at this point, has a $1.3 billion jackpot. no one took home the record-breaking jackpot on saturday, so that means it continues to grow before wednesday's drawing. again, the jackpot is $1.3 billion, for now. ongoing ticket sales will no doubt make that total rise. good luck. it's a surprise you don't want to miss. a clemson game turned homecoming, for a man serving our country.

4 hd weather forecast. chris: the first cold blast has arrived and it will be very cold tomorrow. the second one comes in tuesday and a third one next weekend. get ready for a very wintry forecast. it will be cold. already 26 in asheville, 28 in hendersonville. your thermometer reads 34 in greenville. 31 in toccoa. a cold night with dry conditions. temperatures will continue to plummet. the super doppler shows it is dry. it has been windy today. a peak wind gust in anderson at 32 miles per hour. breezy conditions, but winds are calming down a bit but still very gusty in the mountains. that is making the windchill, or what it feels like on your skin, bitter outside. dangerously cold, nine degree wind chill in asheville and hendersonville. feels like negative two in

dangerous wind chills overnight into tomorrow morning. at the kids have to go to the bus stop, make sure they are wearing thick coats and layers. it will be cold in the mountains. not as bad in the upstate, but very chilly. it will warm up tomorrow, but the windchill stays in the teens and 20's across the mountains. low temperatures tonight will be cold. the latest models showing 29, i am going 25. the models picked a few clouds across the area. i think they will move out. 19 a low in asheville. greenville tomorrow, sunshine and lots of it. we will top out in the middle 40's across the day. that is the start of a cold week. lower 40's across the entire upstate. for the mountains, we struggle to get out of the freezing mark. the models are showing the cold air will come in waves this week. the first one arriving now. it will be cold or the day on monday and tuesday.

night, where wednesday, our highs in the upstate are going to struggle to get out of the 30's. that sets us up for a cold couple days. the air tries to moderate a little bit ahead of the next the week. temperatures will top out in the 40's through friday. that brings us to the weekend. another cold blast setting up to the north and west tries to head our way on sunday. rounds and rounds of cold air. what does that mean? well, some of the models show we could have energy to go along with the cold air. you are looking at the west coast, there is alaska. over here is russia and china. here is what they european models depict. 1, 2, 3, 4 storms we will watch. this is one model, and one model run. nonetheless, the pattern indicates we will have cold air in place and several of these storms will need to be watched. this far out, and with the

information. ocean. united states, we will have more accurate models. it is important to stay tuned to the forecast this week. the models show the first impact system will move across the united states wednesday into thursday and impact our area friday. it is to the west, but it will send moisture our way friday night, which could mix with ice in the mountains. predominantly, looks like rain across the area. the second one arrives on sunday. this one could have a little more moisture with it. we will watch that one. the timing could be off. the moisture could be off. we will watch it over the next few days. one thing's for sure, the pattern favors these systems moving our way. the first one had been friday night, possibly a wintry mix in the mountains. the second one, third one, fourth one, we don't know. the pattern favors cold air with the moisture. that threat will behind this

watching playoff games. it will return to the practice field on monday. the panthers team went through a 90-minute practice in full pads on friday. head coach ron rivera said it will be the only time they'll be in full pads before the playoff game. the panthers will host the seattle seahawks next sunday. seattle survived in minnesota in the bitter cold. you saw the game right here on wyff 4. under a minute to go blair , walsh with a chip shot, and the seahawks survive, clemson is 10-9. coming off an overtime victory at syracuse earlier in the week. now, the tigers look to keep things going today, welcoming in 16th ranked louisiville. we head over to the well in greenville. the tigers offense clicking in the first half, gabe devoe and -- finding jaron blossomgame for the alley-oop. tigers would lead 31-25 at the break. 2nd half, donte grantham lines -- knocks down the trouble, extends the clemson need to nine -- lead to nine. grantham, one of four tigers in double figures, with 12. later, a little defense.
