they are members of the south council. they are here in response to a prefiled bill that will enable communities to remove public places. leaders of the group saying this is a matter of heritage, not hate. a lot of them have packed into the word out on where they stand. they are calling for a statewide referendum to let the people decide whether or not they want to that to be able to happen. that is why they are here today. meantime, senators and house members are expecting a busy legislative session. the house is waiting to hear what the senate will do with the bill they passed the last sess with funding for road repairs and bridge repairs. they are fighting to tackle the funding for flood damage. they will focus on a special

who died last week and whose funeral took place yesterday. a busy session ahead for both chambers here in columbia. as you can see, a lot of people hoping to influence certain the way certain measures and actions turn out. myra ruiz, wyff news 4, live in columbia. allyson: it was a big night in college football as the top two teams played for the national championship in glendale, arizona. alabama and clemson had a hard fought game. it was back-and-forth last night with some incredible plays with the crimson tide winning 45-40. that's the 16th national title win for alabama and head coach nick saban's fifth national title.

and ted cruz will both be at the capitol for the speech. governor nikki haley will give the republican response afterward. haley has made it clear that this will not be a response. she says it will be an address. haley said she didn't want it to be a response to the president because she doesn't want to compete against the president or even imply that she is. new at noon, court documents show two loaded semi-automatic pistols were recovered from a georgia apartment following friday's arrest of a man and federal agents suspect 24-year-old abigail lee kemp and 35-year-old lewis jones iii of jewelry stores across five states. officials say when the pair was arrested, they found guns under a bed and on a kitchen counter. in the robberies, but it is still unknown what happened to the jewelry. a north carolina man has been charged after allegedly throwing a kitten more than 30 feet.

jeremy austin grabbed his seven-year-old son's kitten and threw it, causing injury, including a broken hip, leg, and internal injuries requiring the kitten to be put down by animal control. austin was charged with one felony count of cruelty to animals. in spartanburg county, police bleeding while responding to a call about a shooting and possible carjacking. this was on reidville road at the intersection of highway 290 thursday around 10:00 p.m. when police got on scene, johnathan batchelor led them to his wife, who was face down in the grass on the side of a home. the woman was taken to a nearby hospital. the case is still under investigation. in greenville county, a 21-year-old man says excessive force by the police caused him to lose a tooth. greenville police have released the dash cam video. it happened on december 15. the video shows jaquan williams being handcuffed and arrested. williams claimed he had been slammed to the ground while in handcuffs.

of possession of marijuana. in north carolina police say a , three-year-old boy died after accidentally shooting himself at his father's store. it happened sunday morning in lumberton. that's just west of wilmington near the south carolina border. the child's father owns and manages the store. police say he reported the shooting immediately after it happened. the child died at a local hospital. investigators say the handgun was stored behind a counter at the store. they have not provided any information on the ownership or registration of the weapon. sergeant bowe bergdahl will go before a military court today in north carolina. berghdahl left his post in afghanistan in 2009. he was then kidnapped by the taliban and held captive for five years. he's accused of desertion and endangering his fellow soldiers. berghdahl was released in prisoner exchange for five guantanamo bay detainees in 2014. turning to commitment 2016 now, the stage is set for thursday's round of republican presidential debates being held in

seven candidates will take the main stage. donald trump, ben carson, ted cruz, marco rubio, chris christie, john kasich, and jeb bush will all participate in the main debate. that leaves former arkansas governor mike huckabee, rand paul, carly fiorina, and rick santorum for the undercard debate. paul says he won't participate in anything that's not the first tier. he is calling his placement an artificial designation that he won't accept. another poll tracks a tightening race for democrats. the latest "wall street journal" poll shows bernie sanders has nearly caught up to hillary clinton in the hawkeye state. clinton now with a 48% to 45% lead over the vermont senator. that same poll shows sanders actually ahead of clinton ahead of new hampshire's primary. happening today, the greenville county school district is hiring. there's a job fair this evening at life-long learning. the job fair is for bus drivers, bus aides, custodians, and food service operators. the event is from 5:00 until 7:00.

wilkins street. cold weather in new england has meant more patients for sea turtle hospitals in the south. the south carolina aquarium says five loggerhead sea turtles stunned by the cold were flown there from the new england aquarium in massachusetts. three of the turtles are being treated in charleston while the other two are being treated at the georgia sea turtle center. officials say cold weather off new england earlier this month stunned about 400 turtles. the henderson county sheriff's office has two new officers, and take a look at them. they're pretty cute. the sheriff's office is welcoming two 10-week-old bloodhound puppies to their staff. the pups will be trained to track suspects and find missing people. school resource officers have asked henderson county fifth grade students to suggest names for the new puppies. they'll announce the names next month. the student who picks the winning names will get to meet

allyson: covering the world now, at least 10 people were killed and 15 others were hurt in an explosion in turkey. the blast took place in istanbul's historic sultanahmet square, a major tourist attraction in turkey's most populous city. police closed off with crime tape as they searched for evidence. there are reports that a suicide bomber may have caused the blast, but no one has claimed responsibility for the explosion. isis claimed responsibility for the baghdad mall attack that killed 18 people yesterday. gunmen stormed the mall after setting off a car bomb and launching a suicide attack at its entrance. iraqi officials say the violence

killing at least 18 people and wounding 50. defense officials are highlighting an airstrike on an unusual isis target. sunday's strike hit what the military called a cash collection and distribution point, which isis was using to pay its troops. u.s. defense officials couldn't say exactly how much money was in the building. but neither could say what kind of currency. we're getting the first look into mexican drug kingpin el chapo's safe house. police raided this home on friday. six people were killed in a shootout with police. he had been on the run since he escaped from prison back in july. now, u.s. officials are trying to extradite el chapo back to the states, but that could take up to a year. four people were killed in a home explosion in ohio. it happened late last night. neighbors reported hearing a blast that shook nearby homes. crews responded and found flames shooting from the house. inside, firefighters found the

young girls. the cause of the explosion is still under investigation. the show won't go on for the elephants performing for ringling bros. and barnum & bailey circus. the animals' retirement comes nearly a year and a half ahead of schedule. the elephants will head to a 200-acre center for elephant conservation in florida. ringing brothers has been heavily criticized for its treatment of elephants. in 2011, the circus was fined by the usda for violating the animal welfare act. the circus says it will continue to feature tigers, lions, horses, and camels. picture this, a man on the loose says a selfie to police because he did not like his moth shotmugshot. it is wanted in court for a drug driving case but he did not like the pictures police posted so he decided to snap one of his own with the message " here is a

terrible." turning to some must see video find on a minnesota man's front yard. he looked inside to find inspiration for what you wanted to build in the snow like inside to his kidney. jim gorbunow chiseled a snow sculpture of a kidney to raise awareness of organ donation. this isn't the first time he's created a snow kidney. he did it in 2014 to help find a donor when he needed a kidney. >> i'm kind of hoping that by doing this there are those people that come through that don't know me, and they see this, and they at least think about it or think twice about it. allyson: gorbunow is a spokesperson for the national kidney foundation. he said he is concerned about the number of people living with kidney disease. forget the ice scraper, one car owner is going to need a blow torch. this footage is coming to us from new york, where icy water from lake erie, snow, rain, and

here is a look at what has been going on the past six hours. overnight, we had flurries of snow in the ohio valley area. some of those reached into the mountains of north carolina along the tennese border. a fine dusting. teens and 20's earlier. now in the mid to upper 40's. how does it feel? take the wind and it makes it feel like it is 36 in asheville. it feels like 39 in greenville and 39 in anderson. it will not take long at your outdoors to get chilled quickly with the cold winds. it will get colder tonight. average this time of year is 52 for greenville, spartanbonwe will see 50 today, but it will feel cooler. the record is 73 set in 2013. the record for the mountains was also set that year in 2013 when i got up to 70.

this afternoon. apple says it's adding new feature to your iphone or ipad. it's called a night shift mode that changes your screen light at night. the plan is to help avoid blue light before going to bed. this is based on a study that says exposure to blue light from screens in the evening makes it harder for you to go to sleep. the new mode will automatically shift to warmer colors. a new app called finding rover helps you find your pet if he or she ever gets lost. here's how it works. once you download the app to your smartphone or tablet, you take a picture of your pet, and it's scanned into the system. using facial recognition, it helps you locate your missing four-legged friend. the app is currently being used in california and has helped 10 families find their missing dogs. no word yet if the app will be available in alabama. -- will be available here. it appears amazon had a very merry christmas. the retailer had more holiday season visits to its sites than ebay, walmart, target, and macy's combined. the company also added three million prime members during the third week of december.

throughout 2016. microsoft is ending support for older versions of internet explorer today. that means you either have to upgrade to the latest version, microsoft edge, which is only available with windows 10, or install a new browser altogether to avoid security flaws. microsoft will continue to issue security updates and bug fixes for internet explorer 11. older versions of explorer made up at least 20% of the browser market in december. have you seen this video? a dad videobombed his two daughters, and the clip has taken the internet by storm. mike jones sneaks up behind his daughters as they start dancing in the kitchen. he copies their moves for much of the one minute clip until he adds his own moves. it's only then the girls realize he's behind them.
