game this weekend. geoff: let's get to this morning's headlines. allyson: a live look on snowy roads in indianapolis, indiana with winter weather moving east. geoff: continuing our breaking news, pakistani officials saying an attack at northwestern university is over and 20 people are confirmed dead. gunmen stormed the university this morning. the army responded and officials say at least two of the dead are a student and teacher. allyson: take a look at this frozen water fountain in gaffney. dennis sent us this shot on ulocal. he founded in midtown gaffney. dale, that looks pretty cold, but there will be quite a few more. dale: below freezing over a good bit of the area right now. 30 in greenville, 20's and teens in western north carolina, so we are starting out cold.

plus forecast, writer wind today. the couple of flurries of snow right now in swing and haywood counties. about late morning, 1230, it starts to come down pretty heavily across the border. as the afternoon progresses, by 3:00, we will seek snow in northern greenville, pickens, oconee county. it is not going to be as heavy as it would be in spots in north carolina, up to two inches plus could accumulate, especially in higher mountaintops. this will continue into the afternoon. it continues in the mountains of north carolina. check the bottom of the screen for schools in north carolina that have decided to close for the day. we will talk about the rest of the weekend in a few minutes. geoff: thank you. there are some school closings to talk about this morning. graham county, jackson county,

schools in north carolina are all closed today. though, they all have an optional workday today. meanwhile, the departments of transportation in the carolinas are getting ready for the potential incoming weather system. allyson: wyff news 4's aly myles joins us live from madison county where advisisies begin this morning. aly: it is a 21 degrees at mars hill university. at his freehold degrees more than what we were seen in greenville, according to our car thermometer. it is all about to change. a winter weather advisory begins at 7:00 a.m. and runs until 7:00 a.m. tomorrow. things to be on the lookout for snow accumulating and black ice , are some of the hazards the system can bring, so the dot here has prepared brine solutions to treat the roads. crews plans to head out this morning in the mountain areaea but a reminder to not get a false sense of security and to be patient and more careful. along i-85 near brockman mclimon road, this is the first winter

her state of the state address. this is video from her address last year, where she proposed cutting the state income tax and raising the gas tax to fix the roads. wyff news 4 will air this year's address live. it begins at 7:00 tonight. new details in the case of an upstate deputy who was shot in the head while on the job. the greenville county sheriff's office expects deputy dave dempsey to be released from the hospital today. dempsey was shot in december while responding to a robbery. allyson: a wyff news 4 update now, the coast guard has suspended the search for 12 missing marines off hawaii's coast. that includes one marine from the upstate, 22-year-old sergeant jeffrey sempler from woodruff. officials say two helicopters collided during a training exercise last thursday. four life rafts were found earlier this week, but no one was on them. the cause of the crash is still unknown. and an update on a shooting last november in anderson county, the sheriff's office says clint moore turned himself in. moore is now charged with attempted murder, accused of

the shooting happened at the l.a. pour house in november. they say pritchett was the estranged husband of katlyn gottbeheat who you see here. she was arrested last week and charged as an accessory after the fact to a felony. geoff: a woman is dead following a house fire in pickens. this is sky 4 video yesterday afternoon from the scene on ann street. this is just blocks from main street. there is no word on how the fire started. a witness says she saw a small fire, then heard a loud boom. the coroner says she won't release the woman's name until the autopsy is performed today. she also says several pets were killed in the fire. in oconee county, five homes without smoke detectors had fires over seven days. the county fire chief says most of them started from people simply trying to stay warm. the department bought new smoke detectors to give to people in need. the chief says you can call any time to have yours checked or have one installed. oconee county will go door to

the upstate is going to get some flurries, just enough to get people excited. here is our future plus forecast. much of the action starts around 11:00, and about 2:00 in the upstate of south carolina. coming down pretty good in the mountains of south carolina at 3:30 and some a drift into the i-85 corridor. the mountains will continue through the afternoon and evening with more snow. a couple of inches, even higher mountaintops, seeing three inches before it is done. if you are headed to northern georgia, that is where the thickest snow is expected. the careful driving across the mountains. 30's may be the best the mountains do. as a look ahead, rain follows this event thursday night through friday. we will see some lingering and freezing rain saturday early in

the upstate and saturday and sunday look good and back to normal temperatures by the end of the weekend. allyson: taking a look at the roads, pretty quiet morning on the roadway and starting to pick up on i-85 around the bmw exit highway 101. let's take a look out the interstates. no accidents but slow traffic as we checkup spartanburg. asheville highway on church street, daniel morgan avenue, all moving slow and about 15 miles per hour. slow-moving traffic at white horse road between i-85 and the southern connector. it would take about 12 minutes to get to that connector area. if you are headed out the door, some slow-moving areas are no major accidents. 26 and 40 four smooth drive. -- 26 and 40 are a smooth limit drive.
