it was enough to stick to the ground in some areas of buncombe cocoty, and some students were let out of school early. in the higher elevations, like blowing rock, way up in wautauga and caldwell counties, it snowed enough to change the look of things. plenty of skiers and snowboarders taking advantage. again, a big concern this morning will be black ice, so i will throw a curveball my photographer, you can see all of these trucks who have been here for hours already. they said for right now, they are laying low and getting ready for the next hours. aly myles wyff news 4 five in asheville. allyson: thank you. other concerns with air travel. some major airlines are looking ahead to the weather and appeasing travelers in advance. american, southwest and delta airlines will waive ticket change fees and fare differences for customers who want to postpone their trips. those airlines are issuing travel waivers to customers who are expecting delays and cancellations. myra: there are other concerns,

what she hasn't told you is that the fighting is within her own party. republicans in the senate actually fillbustered their own roads bill last summer until it was dead for the year. and while the republicans are fighting amongst themselves, our citizens continue to suffer with tattered roads and dangerous bridges. allyson: norell went on to say that if democrats were in control of the legislature, they would have a bill on governor haley's desk within days. myra: if you missed governor haley's state of the state, we have the whole speech on wyff4.com. allyson: a greenville county deputy who was shot in the head while on the job is home. myra: he was greeted by fellow law enforcement officers as he left the roger c peace rehab hospital yesterday. dempsey spent 41 days in the hospital. he's expected to make a full recovery with therapy. dempsey praised a fellow deputy for his actions the night he was shot.

of the mountains, south of there, rain falls and north, you get winter weather. winter weather advisory in effect until 7:00 a.m. for the carolina mountains. down toward greenville, a hazardous weather impact right now with a little bit ofice possible, along with fog. the storm that is coming tomorrow has prompted the winter storm warning from the national weather service for the northern part of t georgia, northern part of the upstate and all of western north carolina as the storm bears down on the area. we have a calm start to the day, 34 in downtown greenville, temperatures cold just about everywhere. 30 and laurens, 35 and abbeville, 31 in asheville. throughout the day, it will be nice. temperatures will warm into the lower 40's. we will see partly cloudy skies

that presents a problem from yesterday's light snow. slick roads and a winter weather advisory due to black ice possible out there. across the area, a winter storm warning from the northern part of the upstate, northbound and into the mountains, and this will be a significant storm overnight. at 20% chance of rain later today. the rain changes to ice overnight and roads could be bad as early as tomorrow morning at 7:00 a.m. in the northern part of the upstate. that continues off and on to snow friday night. on saturday. we will see melting on sunday, but roads will likely be bad for much of the area with fog, re-freeze and fog until monday morning. myra: and some of those roads are the disparity.

myra: u.s. researchers say the solar system may have a ninth planet and it may be 10 times bigger than earth and way beyond neptune. allyson: astronomers in pasadena said computer simulation showed that the mystery planet would orbit abou times further away from the sun from the earth. the planet has not been observed directly and the astronomers were initially skeptical that such a large planet would have eluded detection. they say the model shows a near perfect match. earlier research devoted pluto as the solar systems ninth planet. myra: all i can say is i thought of a martian. allyson: i can't help you there. myra: we will take a look at the morning headlines. winter weather their lame east and on the left, slow-motion
