we had our opportunities. it wasn't anything special that they did. we dropped balls, gave the ball over, give up sex, through the -- gave up sacs, gave up passes. they scored more points than us. we loss. patrick: a visibly disappointed cam newton, ending the interview and walking out, after the panthers loss in super bowl 50. we'll have the highlights in just a moment. patrick: good morning. i'm patrick hussion. allyson: and i'm allyson powell and that is the woodruff road skycam behind us. it is cold this morning and it is going to get even colder. dale: today is the warmest day of the week. upper 40's is the best tomorrow. cold air is blowing in. what it will mean for us as we look at the advisories that are showing up on the map and north carolina.

up on your screen, that is winter storm warnings. it includes haywood county, northern jackson county as you can see. swain, graham, all along the tennessee border, madison county, yancey, avery, all under a winter storm warning. anytime there is over 3-5 inches of snow, they issue these warnings. asheville will be under a winter weather advisory. maybe up to an inch of snow. that is the same story for macon county. it is the county's right along the tennessee-north carolina border that will be impacted starting tonight, continuing the next couple of days. here it comes. you can see across kentucky, we are seeing some precipitation. this will change over to snow later this afternoon and tonight is when it starts to pile up. today, as far as the upstate is concerned, low 30's to upper 30's will climb about 10 degrees and reach upper 40's. the mountains will stay pretty chilly all day. 28. it may reach low 40's at best today.

fumble. denver scores the touchdown. forcing a fumble there. he was named m.v.p. of the super bowl. they get the panthers in the end zone in the second quarter, leaping into the end zone. that made it a 10-7-game. the denver defense was all over cam newton all night long. seven sacks by the denver defense. a phenomenal effort by the league's number one defense. down the middle and intercepted, three turnovers from cam newton. this one sealed it. newton backed the pass and the fumble. the denver broncos would ultimately score a touchdown. peyton manning wednesday super bowl in what may be his final game. the carolina panthers lose super bowl 5024-10. obviously, a disappointing end to the carolina panthers. this team is built to sustain

superstars in this league. the carolina panthers will likely be back in this position before too long. cam newton after the game had one message. he said, we will be back. in santa clara, brad fralick, wyff news four. allyson: hundreds of broncos fans took to the streets of downtown denver after the game. traffic was backed up for miles. broncos fans showed their excitement by cheering and even running in the street to high-five drivers. meanwhile back at the stadium the broncos quarterback called the victory a tough win. >> carolina was every bit as good as we thought they were. up front those guys inside were awesome. we knew we'd have our hands full. fortunately, our defense was even better. allyson: dozens of police officers were out to keep the celebration under control. police say the made at least seven arrests after the game. the scene was different in charlotte overnight as you can see behind from sky 4. a lot of disappointment from

parties. wyff news 4's tim waller was at a charlotte sports pub where fans were hoping for a better outcome. tim this is where the party was. : you can see the big flat screens here at the all american pub. this place was packed during the super bowl. but when it was over and the fans realized their team wasn't going to win, there was a lot of disappointment. yet somehow in the middle of it all, there was optimism. >> this is the start of something great for charlotte, something great for the panthers. this is a smile -- small take of what is to come. >> it makes you proud to be in the city. tim: here is what it took to throw such a big party in the middle of it all in charlotte. 12,500 wings, 200 cases of beer and 40 kegs here at this super bowl party with so much disappointment at the very end.

charlotte. patrick: of course fans were also watching the big game closely here in the upstate. wyff news 4's mike mccormick spent the evening at a watch party in spartanburg. mike so despite sunday night's : score, it is clear that spartanburg, the summer home of the carolina panthers is still 100% behind its team. you can see the banner here hanging proudly in morgan square. we are at watch parties all throughout the city. wofford invited students were a watch party of their own. so many of them said they wanted to be together to cheer on the team because the team and its owner, it means so much to the college. we watched a lot of people glued to the tvs. cheering on the team. hoping for a win. although it didn't happen, it is clear that spartanburg is 100% behind the carolina panthers. mike mccormick, wyff news 4 in

allyson: super bowl fans also packed bars and restaurants across greenville. wyff news 4's corey davis saw lots of panther pride at bar louie on woodruff road. corey people in here were glued : to the tv's. many of them were at the edge of their seats, hoping the panthers could come out with a win. they came in here pumped, showing off their best dance moves. showing off a popular dance move that many fans have embraced the season. cam newton was probably the most tonight. there were several others representative like the denver broncos. several fans of those journeys on. the new orleans saints, and we also saw a guy with a detroit lions jersey. we asked a lot of people what they were looking forward most to during the game. they said none of them -- none of them said the halftime show or the commercials. the national anthem, the halftime show, and a lot of the

here at bar louie. corey davis, wyff news four in greenville. allyson: a quick note for you north carolina governor pat , mccrory was in a minor wreck shortly after the panthers' loss. the wreck happened as he was leaving the stadium. the vehicle he was in was rear-ended by a mercedes. officials said the car he was riding in was totaled. california highway patrol said he complained of minor injuries but refused treatment. officials say he left the stadium in another vehicle. patrick: dale joins us again. some disappointed fans waking up this morning, but what can they expect? dale: that was quite the season. speaking of seasons, we are still in the winter season. we have snow coming into the mountains of north carolina starting this afternoon. currently 32 in greenville with a west-southwest rees at three. this is gives field and wofford coffee -- college as we look back to the city skyline. a nice start on the day. later this afternoon, there will

it won't be cold enough for snow, but it will be cold enough carolina border. winter storm warnings are the areas in pink. asheville under a winter weather advisory. watch out for slick roads that may develop through this event. it will be the higher elevations of north carolina starting this afternoon, tonight, through wednesday morning that will continue to get snow. even through thursday, it will be tricky driving across the mountains. that is going to be the next weather event coming in, starting this afternoon. the upstate may see a little snow mixed in with rain. let's watch our future plus forecast. it will be right along the tennessee-north carolina border that we will see snow starting this afternoon, continuing overnight into tomorrow. accumulating up to 2, 3, 5, six inches of snow in the higher elevations of north carolina over the next couple of days. it will be a north carolina event. it will cause closings and delays.

more than 100 people are believed to still be buried. south carolina highway patrol reports a deadly wreck north of abbeville. troopers report it happened about 1:00 this morning on highway 20 near noble drive. investigators say the driver of a bmw was not wearing a seat belt when the vehicle ran off the road and hit a tree. the driver was ejected and died from injures at the scene. condition of a passenger also in the vehicle. greenville county deputies are looking for the person who shot a man down. deputies were called to an apartment complex on edwards road in taylors satuday. investigators say they found a man shot at least once in the leg, 23-year-old anquan gambrell died later at a hospital. anyone with information is asked to call crime stoppers. patrick: the search continues for adriel garnett. in connection with a deadly shooting. woodruff police say the shooting happened early saturday morning. and that garnett may be headed to the low country, and could be in the charleston area. if you can help locate adriel

crimestoppers. newberry county deputies are offering a seminar about protecting yourself from scam phone calls. deputies said the latest scam they've seen is a call claiming the victim owes government fees and taxes or they will face court or jail time. the presentation will happen tonight at 7:00 at the newberry county sheriff's office. deputies will discuss the different types of identity theft and steps to protect yourself. there will be an overview of popular scams and tips to avoid becoming a victim. allyson: a dramatic drop at the pump. which state has the highest prices and which state has the

-- what do all of these colors mean? graham county, northern jackson, swing county, all under a winter storm warning. that means the winter -- the national weather service is expecting 2-5 inches of snow which will make for travel bottom starting tonight to the next couple of days. winter weather advisory for asheville and jackson county and macon and clay and cherokee, still on of snow to make for some slippery spots. it will be a higher elevations the jewish and coming in as the next wave of north carolina. i am not talking about south carolina or northeastern georgia. we could see a flurry or two of snow mixed in with rain in the south carolina mountains. our future plus forecast shows this impacting the mountains near the tennessee border the most over the next couple of days.

teens and 20's thursday morning. friday, we get up to 46. back to upper 40's. looks like a sunny weekend, but very much a what -- winter weekend on the way. allyson: it's a plan to turn an upstate city into a mountain biking destination. patrick: but it's not only outdoor enthusiasts who will benefit. right now plans are being designed to add 15 miles to the palmetto trail which currently ends at oconee station. those extra miles will add a loop system for hikers and mountain bikers. officials say it'll also kick start the economy in oconee county. >> we've done tours of other places that have mountain biking trails. we've taken our forestry department down there we've taken our state tourism department in different areas and you pull in to these parking , lots and all the cars have out of state license plates and these people are spending money and they are staying overnight. patrick: officials are hoping to have the first phase done in the next year or two.

college in spartanburg has a costumed mascot. val the valkyrie made her debut at a basketball game saturday. this is the first time the school's mascot has been portrayed by an actual person. the debut was part of the teams annual pink game, in honor of cancer survivors, victims and their families. fans donated money toward cancer research instead of paying admission to get into the game. allyson: almost 600 south carolinians will get their high school diplomas without having to again take the ged test. the south carolina education department has announced that the ged testing service has lowered the passing score for the tests from 150 to 145. that means about 600 people in the state who have taken the test since january first 2014 and didn't make a passing grade under the old scoring system now have passed. during the past 40 years more than 220,000 south carolina residents have earned a high school diploma through the ged testing program. patrick: crews exploded nearly 120-pounds of dynamite near

smoke stacks. after about a year of demolition on an old coal plant. the smoke stacks were the last structures standing. workers toppled the towers yesterday morning. they placed dynamite in more than 330 holes punched into their bases. the explosion lasted about 12-seconds. allyson: a north carolina man died over the weekend after running in the 12th annual krispy kreme challenge . officials from north carolina state university said the 58-year-old male stepped out of the race within the first mile and reported having chest pains. ems transported him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. the krispy kreme challenge is a student-led, charity-based run that supports the north carolina children's hospital. contestants are challenged to run 5 miles while eating 12 doughnuts in an hour. patrick: one person is dead and six others are hurt after an explosion at a plant in northwest georgia. police say the explosion happened early sunday morning at a chicken farm in rockmart about

they say 25-year-old justin deems died and six other people were taken to a local hospital including one in critical condition. allyson: new video captures a frigid scare in wisconsin. several cars ended up falling through the ice at lake geneva. you can see crews working to pull the cars out of the water. officials say the cars were parked on the frozen lake as an overflow lot for a nearby event because regular parking is so scarce. no one was in the vehicles at the time and no one was hurt.
