information on how the chase started. we'll update you as soon as that information is available to us. patrick: also in this morning's headlines. the results from the new hampshire primaries are in. who came out on top and what's next as the candidates head to south carolina. we're waking up to bitterly cold weather. good morning. i'm geoff hart. allyson: and i'm allyson powell. the dangerously cold weather showered the carolinas with snow yesterday. you can see some behind us. this is blowing rock, north carolina late yesterday morning. geoff: let's compare that with morning. two. good morning to you. dale: welcome back, stranger. we had snow in abbeville yesterday. it was kind of crazy.

had just a fale or two, but the windy conditions will stick with us today. winchell advisories continue, north carolina. -- wind chill advisories continue, especially for the mountains and north carolina. watch out for slick roads spots on secondary roads. whatever has fallen in the past couple days will hang around with this cold temperatures. it is 24 degrees in greenville . if you factor in the wind, we are seeing some eight mile per hour winds in the area. anderson in greenville feel like 14-15 degrees. make sure your kids are dressed warmly. temperatures will struggle to reach the upper 30's in the upstate. and in the mountains, the high

we will talk more about the rest of the week in just a few minutes. allyson: for as long as that cold lasts, relief workers say they will work to get the homeless out of the bitter cold. the asheville buncombe community christian ministry shelter opened it doors to about 40 men last night. vans scoured the streets looking for those to bring in from expected temperatures that could feel like zero or below. >> everybody has to come in because people will freeze to death in these conditions. we've seen folks pass out drunk and unfortunately, freeze to death on the sidewalk. we have seen to them freeze to death in abandoned buildings and underpasses. we're committed that no one has to freeze to death. allyson: the shelter only has room for 40, but works with other asheville shelters to make sure no one has to spend the night in freezing temperatures. geoff: many of you called our newsroom when the snow showers

we are talking about the snow in the carolina mountains. we even had some snow in abbeville. thank you for those pictures. when bad weather hits, you can turn to the wyff 4 mobile app. you can download the app from your app store on your phone. donald trump takes new hampshire, winning the republican presidential primary, as the polls indicated. allyson: here's a look at how things played out. with 266 precincts reporting. trump got 35% of the vote. but the polls didn't see this coming. john kasich came in second with 16%. ted cruz, 12%. jeb bush at 11%. marco rubio, 11%. chris christie, 8%. carly fiorina, 4%. ben carson, 2%.

vermont senator bernie sanders was declared the winner of the new hampshire democratic primary. he had polled strongly in new hampshire over hillary clinton with nearly 267 precincts reporting. sanders has 89%. clinton, 38%. >> we want to thank the people of new hampshire. do we love the people of new hampshire? you know, i said it and i said it a year ago. i said, i think i'm going to do well there because i am here a lot and it is so beautiful. i love it so much and i love the people. >> we will need to come together in a few months and unite this party and this nation because the right wing republicans we oppose must not be allowed to gain the presidency. allyson: with new hampshire in the books, the focus turns fully to south carolina. the first-in-the-south primary

geoff: the gop primary happens on saturday, february 20, followed by the democratic primary a week later on february 27. and tomorrow we are teaming up with the riley institute at furman university for a commitment 2016 voter focus group with peter hart. this is an exclusive live streaming event that will take place in our wyff 4 studios. it will include upstate voters who will weigh in on the upcoming first in the south presidential primaries. nationally known pollster peter organizations, including nbc news. event on thursday, starting at 7:00 p.m. live streaming on wyff4.com and our wyff 4 app. donald trump will campaign in the upstate tomorrow. trump has a rally in pendleton. starts at 7:00. it's free to attend but you need to reserve a ticket online. marco rubio will also return to the palmetto state tomorrow. he's holding a rally in spartanburg. he is then going to columbia.

he will instead be heading back to washington for senate business. in his plays, south carolina congressman trey gowdy will attend the town hall in north charleston. it's taking place at the north charleston coliseum montague terrace. allyson: senator ted cruz's campaign will hold a rally at summit pointe in spartanburg. however senator cruz will not be there. according to his campaign, he has been called back to the senate for a vote, but his wife heidi will be there. it starts at 5:00 this afternoon. ted cruz's next south carolina appearance will be tomorrow in rock hill. the event is called "the carolina values summit." cruz and dr.ben carson are expected to speak. it's taking place tomorrow between 6:00 and 9:00 at winthrop university. former governor jeb bush will also return to the upstate this week. he will be in the upstate this week. bush will host a meet and greet at mama penn's restaurant. that's on north main street in anderson. it starts at 11:15 in the

also stopping by the upstate, jim gilmore. the former governor of virginia will drop by the beacon in spartanburg today. it's part of a two day tour in south carolina. john kasich will campaign in the charleston area. tomorrow, he plans to hold towns in georgetown, north myrtle beach, and florence. geoff: the final showdown before the republican south carolina primary election on february 20. it's taking place at the peace center in downtown greenville. the debate starts at 9:00 that night. you can find all of that information on when these candidates -- and where they will be on www.wyff4.com. a heads up for traveling this weekend. because of the debate, the city of greenville has closed some roads. i am moving into your territory. allyson: as you can see on this map, they are the red lines.

fallen overnight. it will be cold, but then you factor in the 15-20 mile-per-hour wind and it makes it feel colder. there will be a few flurries in the mountains until 8:00 this morning. it is 15 degrees in boone. 25 in anderson to greenwood. you factor in a that wind -- you factor in that wind and it feels like 14-15 degrees in anderson. temperatures will reach in the upper 30's in the upstate. the mountains in north carolina will have gradual clearing and will just have temperatures in the upper 20's today. we will say mid 30's to mid 40's. on friday we will see about the same, with perhaps an isolated

talk to me a little bit about this food bank and of the good it does. >> the golden harvest food bank is part of the national network of food banks. there are 200 in the country. the bag of food you are telling everyone about is part of a backpack program, which is also a national program. united way in anderson has embraced this program. they have raised money to make county get food every weekend. they don't have to cook the food or heat it up. i can just open it and eat it. we are making sure those needs are met when they can't have that facilitation and the fed at a school. aly: we joined you this morning. there is such a need all across

talk to me about the difference this can make. >> out of the 200 food banks, 160 participate in the backpack program. or hundred 50,000 kids get food -- 450,000 kids get food every weekend. in anderson county alone, we provided one million emergency meals. 36% of those received food were children. the rest were senior citizens. the two most vulnerable ages are the kids and the senior citizens. senior citizens live on medicaid and have special-needs. aly: if you would like to help out and buy a box, we have a link on www.wyff4.com, as well

we will talkannouncer: now, your live super doppler 4 hd weather forecast. dale: it is 4:49 right now as we look at spartanburg. it is 25 degrees and this is givesbbs field. the big story today is the wind. this is a six hour history of the flurries that continued overnight. we had a couple spots in raven county and northern greenville that received a flurry or two overnight. we have a windchill advisory in the mountains until about noon today. we have wind gusts at 10-20 miles per hour or -- 10-20 miles per hour or more. that will be slippery spots on

this will hang around for a while. 15 degrees in boone. franklin in asheville are 19 degrees. it is a little colder in the mountains. it is 15 degrees in waynesville. rivard, 20 degrees. across the upstate we can see mid 20's for the most part. when you factor in the those winds, here is how it feels. it feels like nine in asheville hendersonville feels like four degrees. boone feels like zero degrees and across the upstate it feels like it is in the teens. today. temperatures will struggle to reach the upper 20's in the mountains. in the upstate, temperatures will be in the mid 30's. 38 could be the best we see today.

our four day plus forecast shows tomorrow. we could have an isolated flurry in the mountains on friday. we have no problems or the weekend, other than cold. coldest day. on monday there is a 40% chance of a rain and snow mix. it will start out as snow and then change over to rain. not a big storm, but we are still in winter. allyson: a former greenville county deputy will avoid prison time after pleading guilty to misconduct in office. david hayes was accused of taking bribes in exchange for tipping off an illegal gambling operator about upcoming raids by law enforcement. hayes pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor. the judge sentenced him to time-served. in exchange, prosecutors dropped a felony charge of misconduct in office. >> i would call it just making

he got into financial pressure. he made the wrong decisions. he got into bed with the wrong people. allyson: both hays and former deputy shea smith were fired in july 2014 after an fbi investigation. smith pleaded guilty in december. he was put on probation and banned from law enforcement. a hearing is scheduled this morning in of the zach hammond case. he was shot and killed in july by a seneca police officer. this happened in a hearty parking lot -- in a party's parking lot in an undercover drug sting. geoff: greenville county deputies say a burglary led to three school lockdowns. they have three people in custody. thomas kerns elementary and the m.t. anderson support center along with southside high school were on lockdown. deputies say the search started after a burglary at a home on oak hill drive. investigators say four people

out of the vehicle ran away. deputies caught up with those three, but the driver got away. allyson: in anderson county, deputies say the owner of a dog found shot and emaciated will not face charges. you may recall two-year-old boxer amara. deputies say the owner shot the dog because of her aggressive behavior. so, they decided to put her down. but they didn't realize her euthanasia was unsuccessful until they saw her on the news. officials have decided there would be no criminal charges. amara is currently at boxer butts and other mutts. they are a nonprofit rescue in western north carolina. geoff: a prayer meeting will being held this morning in response to close three elementary schools in pickens county. those three schools are lewis, holly springs, and ambler elementary schools. that would mean 600 students would be sent to dacusville elementary and middle, and also haygood and pickens elementary schools. this morning at 8:10 a.m. there will be a student led prayer rally at ambler elementary

it is 27 degrees there. across the nation. here are some of the flurries that occurred overnight. most of it was in the north carolina mountains, but there were a few spots in northern greenville and pickens county got a flurry or two. the light blue represents windchill advisories. raven county and a couple spots in western north carolina got enough snow to make slippery driving conditions this morning. we will reach 40 degrees in the afternoon for the upstate. we have flurries in the mountains in a few spots. that will give way to clear skies. make sure everybody has the warm gear on. that is the big story today, the wind chill.

highway patrol tell us they were involved in a chase overnight. the video for we are watching this morning is from the dot camera on interstate 85. it shows where the chase ended at the 92 mile marker near the gaffney outlets. the chase ended when at the suspect was pulled over and arrested. we're still working to get more information on how this chase began. allyson: also in this morning's headlines, the results from the new hampshire primary are in. who came out on top? and we are -- i keep hearing you say teens for the weekend and i don't know how to prepare. dale: it will get very cold again sunday morning. we got calls from people yesterday who saw flurries of snow. here is a picture from our boone skycam. it will be slippery on secondary roads in the mountains of north
