video from king street in boone. school cancellations in the north carolina mountains. you can find those in the ticker below. allyson: we have team coverage this morning. meteorologist chris justus joins ing dale gilbert in the weather center. geoff: we also have wyff news 4's aly myles out keeping an eye on the roads. a live look here from our woodruff road skycam as well as . with the latest from dale. good morning. dale: later on this afternoon and this evening, could get a little dicey. cloudy skies from our woodruff road skycam. snow overnight in the mountains of north carolina and tennessee, where it continues. the upstate has been so dry, we are nothing precipitation yet. quite a few advisories. winter weather advisory's advisories for the mountains of south carolina into north carolina. winter storm warnings for the counties east of asheville.

this morning to give us an idea when this will start impacting the upstate too. chris: we are watching a matter of moisture moving from northern alabama into georgia right now. it is starting to produce some freezing rain back to northwestern georgia. that will head our way. we will see freezing drizzle and freezing rain developing over the next few hours. here is a look at the highest impact areas. you can see the foothills all the way to the northern part of the upstate. the change from last night is the low pressure system now will not move over the mountains, but it will likely scoot right around this boundary. cold air from the northeast. that will lock in the cold air in these areas. the higher impact areas in red right here may even see a slightly higher impact. that could be scooted down just a bit north of travelers rest.

that is the area we that will be locked in. 61% humidity. anything that falls now is likely to actually hit the ground. what i want to urge you is the roads may look fine, you may not see much, but all it takes is a little bit of freezing rain or freezing drizzle. we are watching the temperatures very closely. anderson actually dropping a degree here. as we go throughout the afternoon, temperatures will try to warm. here is the latest computer model showing freezing drizzle picking up by lunchtime. in the afternoon, that is the real concern. at 6:00, look at this. this is a change as we see the freezing temperatures holding on. stubborn cold air. by midnight tonight, we could have pockets of freezing rain. the heaviest moisture will move in. will do temperatures warm? -- w ill the temperatures warm? we will keep an eye on it for

allyson: because of the winter weather, dot crews have their eyes on known trouble spots on the roads. geoff: we have video of a cruise from before the last storm. the south carolina department of transportation was at it again this weekend pre-treating all roads in greenville, spartanburg, and other counties north of i-85. crews will work in 12 hour shifts to monitor conditions. in counties like laurens, anderson, and areas south of i-85, crews were working on treating interstates, bridges, and known trouble spots and have been watching conditions there overnight. allyson: let's check the rose for you this morning. no icy spot so far. we do have some accidents in anderson county on vernon street. an accident with injuries there. also one in spartanburg. no injuries reported in that accident. couple times on the interstate are smooth right now. you're looking at a speed limit drive on 85. let's take a look outside at 385 and haywood road. don't forget, we have all the

mobile app. it's free in the app store of your apple or android smart phone. turning to commitment 2016 now. the weather could affect presidential candidates on the campaign trail today. geoff: with the south carolina primary this saturday, we know of two candidates visiting the upstate early this week so far. donald trump is scheduled to hold a rally today at the t.d. convention center in greenville. doors open at 5:00. the event begins at 7:00. dr. ben carson is also holding an event in the upstate at that time. he's set to be at the spartanburg marriott at 7:00 tonight following his visit to lancaster in the afternoon. senator ted cruz is set to hold a campaign event tomorrow at the anderson civic center. the event will last an hour . it begins at 7:30. allyson: former florida governor jeb bush will be holding an event in the low country. he's set to have a campaign rally at 6:00 tonight at the north charleston coliseum. former president george w. bush is expected make an appearance at the rally to stump for his brother. gop candidate marco rubio has scheduled appearances today in rock hill, florence, and

that follows his visit this weekend to pickens county, which that drew more than 2,000 people to easley high school. addressed was supreme court death. he says he doesn't believe president obama should appoint a new justice. other gop hopefuls have also expressed that opinion. geoff: speaking of justice scalia, his body has arrived back in virginia overnight. showing the arrival at dulles airport in virginia, where it snow. a procession of about 20 police officers brought the body sunday to an el paso funeral home from a west texas ranch. that's where scalia was found dead on saturday. it is believed the 79-year-old died of natural causes. he was appointed by president ronald reagan in 1986 and has been the senior member of the court for several years. allyson: 6:06 this morning. over our shoulders, the woodruff road skycam. things have shifted.

dale: the mountains of north carolina getting snow. the upstate, just clouds. later into the afternoon, that is when the upstate will get in on the wintry weather expectations. currently, 27 degrees in greenville and mostly cloudy. and northeast breeze at 13 makes it feel colder. dress warmly. you should not have a problem as far as your morning commute unless you are traveling across the tennessee-with a border. snow is that's -- tennessee-north carolina border. snow is falling. be careful if you have some early-morning trouble along i-40 eastbound.

what precipitation does start to fall later on today could of course quickly change into icy conditions on upstate and mountain roads. 10 to 50 mile-per-hour winds make it feel -- 15 mile-per-hour winds make it feel much colder. east of asheville and hickory, it is coming down pretty good. let's go to chris justus with an update on what the models may show us as when the precipitation could impact the upstate. chris: we are watching this batch back to alabama and georgia. it is heading our way right now. putting a track on it, the northern extent of it will move into the southern mountains in about three hours, so that would be just before 9:00. this heavier stuff, the southern extent of it will get into the upstate in about four hours. between 9:00 and 10:00 is when that arrives in our area, and it will be a concern.

we have this wedge of cold air that will extend about like that. that area with freezing temperatures at the same time. there comes the moisture on top of it. originally, the models were showing the low will move over the mountains, but now since this battery is here with cold temperatures -- boundary is here with cold temperatures, it will take the path of least resistance, and that will be the cold boundary it was set up. you can see the freezing rain set up to northeast your georgia. freezing rain around 10:00. i think we will see this freezing rain into the evening for some parts of the upstate. we will show you the totals coming up in the next forecast. geoff: thank you. officials say an explosive device was found on a rental car

weapon. police say he killed 62-year-old christina kessinger friday afternoon. norton is being held at the buncombe county detention center. geoff: also in north carolina, a transylvania county man will stand trial on charges he killed the man who was accused of killing his son. the trial for 49-year-old charles richard o'shields is scheduled to begin tuesday. o'shields is charged with first-degree murder in the shooting. allyson: spartanburg county deputies say a man confessed to killing a 19-year-old woman who'd been reported missing. 20-year-old akello jeter is charged with murder. the charge came two days after the body of autumn hunt was found in a wooded area off sims chapel road. investigators say hunt died from a gunshot wound to the head. jeter is being held at the spartanburg county detention center. geoff: in other news this morning many couples used , valentine's day to either say their vows again or for the first time in the upstate. skylight chapel in taylors was one of the popular places where couples either got married or

here is video from tennessee showing snow falling sunday afternoon along i-75 in eastern tennessee. same system that will be impacting our area today. the tennessee-north carolina border got a good bit of snow yesterday. same system is bringing us wintry weather to north carolina. late morning in its the afternoon we will get wintry weather across the upstate in the form of freezing rain. let's take a look at our current temperatures. spartanburg a 28. it will struggle to get up to freezing 32 today. you can see the snow coming down in northern haywood county and also east of asheville and buncombe and mcdowell. we are starting to see flurries of snow. more action expected to develop as the day goes on. temperatures below freezing for most of the area. 23 in asheville.

28 in spartanburg and anderson. factor in the nine to 13 plus mile-per-hour winds associated with that and it feels like the teens over most of the area. dress warmly if you will be out today. keep an eye out for wintry weather that will develop in parts of the upstate and northeast your job in the foothills of north -- northeast georgia in the foothills of north carolina. this evening could cause flight delays or cancellations. you will want to check with the airport on that. snow in sleet the mountains and freezing rain in the upstate. it is cloudy now with snow in the mountains of north carolina. let's put it into motion. we start to see freezing rain and sleet developing into the piedmont. 3:00 on into the evening.

happening today, president obama will meet with several leaders from southeast asian nations. it's the first u.s.-asian gathering hosted in the u.s. other participants include secretary of state john kerry and secretary of commerce penny pritzker. the group will cover several issues, including security, trade, and climate change. analysts say the meeting comes as the u.s. steps up with efforts to counter china's growth. allyson: tonight, the 58th annual grammy awards. crews were out this weekend in los angeles putting the final touches on the staples center. rapper l.l. cool j will host the awards for the fifth year. it will feature performances from several stars, including adele, taylor swift, and justin bieber. geoff: in the nba, kobe bryant has played his 18th and final all-star game. bryant's numbers relatively tame last night, putting up 10 points and seven assists. otherwise, it was a record-scoring night for the all-star game with a final of 196 for the west to 173 for the east. russell westbrook took home mvp honors for the second straight

dale: we have quite a few colors showing up on the screen this morning, don't we? what we have right now is sleet and freezing rain occurring with snow. snow along the i 40-40 corridor. winter weather advisory's for the foothills. freezing rain advisories continuing into the evening hours. some snow in the mountains. it is quiet in the upstate now. we expect that to change for many areas later this morning into the afternoon. chris justus with the models to give us an idea when this will start to impact you. chris: we are watching for this batch of moisture. look at this heavy moisture back to northern alabama and into georgia. it is moving in a northeasterly fashion, so we can expect some of the freezing rain to start creeping into our area. you can see the sleet moving in.
