see the worst of the weather this evening. been pummeled over the past few hours with heavy rainfall. look at this dome. line. it has not lodged. down. john: temperatures going down a few degrees. that is expected as the sun goes down. temperatures away back to gainesville and lake lanier. when the heavy weather -- when could see freezing rain. chris: he was an approximate time we will see the rain transition. between 8:00 and 10:00, from walhalla to clemson and anderson, and the i-85 corridor is a concern into northeastern greenville county. john: northwestern spartanburg and northeastern greenville counties, all the way through the foothills, they could see an

rabbit trail, near the road. they skidded off the road, overturned, and welled up in this parking lot. fortunately, no one was injured, but you can see, it must have been a terrifying experience for those involved. here is what we saw earlier. this is a fountain outside the entrance to the cliffs at mountain park. it sums up what people recall from a few weeks ago, a beautiful image of winter, laced with treachery of ice. definitely not something people want to drive on. the highway patrol reported multiple traffic accidents earlier in the day. work crews with the department of transportation say they would also go to the scene to put a sand-salt mixture on the roadways. d.o.t. workers tell us, the roads have already been pre-treated. there were some shoppers at the publix on old buncombe road told us they were also trying to stay ahead of whatever might come, by stocking up with the staples before the bad weather. >> my girlfriend over here lost

vehicles on highway 123. no word of any injuries. this is spartanburg county. road. highway patrol is responding to carolina. carol: in spartanburg county, an increase in crashes. mike mccormick is live and locals -- live and local. mike: first responders are working lots of accidents in spartanburg county. they have done so for the last hour or so. this bridge is proof of the reason why. down. that is because the bridge, sc-11 going over the north tackle it river and rainbow -- the north pacolet river and rainbow road, it is a sheet of ice. when we got here, there was a pickup truck that wrecked right here. truck out of the way.

department had part of the road shut down because of the pickup. the windshield on the pickup was split in half from the crash. it was on its side when we got here. we believe the driver was ok. the scene is now clear along sc 11 in spartanburg county. you want to be careful. we have a constant mist coming down live in spartanburg county. it is so cold that it is creating a sheet of ice on the roads. that has emergency officials concerned about the rest of the night. >> we would like to see everybody stay off the roads and let the crews continue to treat the roads. we know it is not always a possibility. some people still need to go and work, so we ask, if you have to be out, take your time, slow down, and you will get there

looking at major icewith the weekend death of carol: with the weekend death of supreme court justice antonin scalia, the court now faces the remainder of this term with only eight members. it's been more than 50 years since the court was in this position. his death leaves the possibility of a 4-4 tie on some major upcoming decisions.

berry college eagle cam. >> now, your live super doppler 4 hd weather forecast. john: right now, looking at heavy freezing drizzle across most of the area, especially along i-85 and north through north carolina and virginia. look at this heavy precipitation to the west. this is what concerns me. when it comes in, our temperatures are below freezing along i-85. we'll probably slowly warm up before the big batch of heavy rain moves in. if it does, and it moves in and we don't get above freezing, we could be talking about a major ice storm across the area, especially i-85 north through the foothills of north carolina where it has been freezing rain all the way for most of the day today. 70 set, they -- freezing rain continues in charlotte all the way back to hickory and morganton. in greensboro, you saw the snow

we are looking at all the moisture coming in from the west. look at the rain, from west of asheville all the way back to tennessee. that warm air is going up and over the dome of cold air in the upstate, so it is warmer the most of the mountains than it is in the upstate. with a northeasterly wind, driving in cold, dry hair. -- cold, dry air. the future plus, 7:00 this evening, look at the temperatures below freezing. barely above freezing from laurens to anderson to clemson and back into toccoa, 32 degrees. look at all the pink at 7:00. the heavy precipitation comes in, this is 10:00 this evening along i-85 north through the foothills of north carolina. we could see a lot of freezing rain there. we warm up, maybe 58 degrees in anderson, 40, the highs will probably be around midnight. this is one: 30 a.m. it should be liquid precipitation, heavy rain across

then, wraparound snow showers along the north carolina-tennessee line. a live shot of low clouds from on top of the peace center in greenville. freezing drizzle continues across the area where the temperatures in the upper 20's. holding steady, 28, dropped a degree in many sections of the last few hours. 28 in greenville and spartanburg, and rutherfordton and hendersonville. 29 in anderson. freezing it laurens and greenwood. we will that closely. northeasterly wind, a cold wind chill. 17 in greenville and hendersonville, 18 the wind chill in anderson and spartanburg. there is the storm system, snow in new england. there is the arctic air up here. it is driving down the eastern slopes of the mountains, right on top of us. tomorrow morning, the system goes out and here comes another system. we could see showers mixed with snow showers for the mountains.
