rutherfordton, spartanburg county right in the 30's. asheville and hendersonville above freezing. 10-12 plus mile-per-hour wind will make it feel colder. it feels like 20's across parts of the upstate and mountains this morning. bundle up. by the afternoon, we will see it reach upper 40's in the mountains and upper 50's in the upstate are that will help get rid of a lot of the ice. we will talk more about what the rest of the week will be like in a few minutes. allyson: north carolina also felt the affects of the winter ststm. roads there were covered in ice and snow. north carolina had a lot of wrecks. many others decided to just pull off the road for safety. geoff: north carolina state highway patrol says more than 300-wrecks happened in the area of raleigh, durham and chapel hill. they say the wrecks started happening just after midnight monday morning. geoff: and this note for people in mcdowell county. there is a phone outage right now in the hankins community. officials ask that you call or text 911 for possible emergencies. allyson: authorities say there are a lot of trees that have

and they do not recommend going out on the roads. geoff: south carolina highway patrol is continuing to work a number of accidents this morning. a live look behind us shows our scdot cameras. i know you will have a little more on traffic coming up. allyson: a little bit of traffic in just a minute. first, we want to get to wyff news 4's aly myles joins us live from travelers rest with a look at conditions on the roads this morning. aly: our journey continues this morning here and we have driven from greenville to travelers rest. we are here in tigers fell. still seeing a lot of wet roads this morning are no ice that i can tell as of yet. we are seeing extremely wet roads. not many cars on the road this morning, at least not yet. something to keep in mind whenever your commute starts. very slick patches with all of this water. take a look at the video from last night. comparison video for you shows scdot camera from my 385 at

on the left, traffic at a standstill on the interstate after a few had slid off the interstate. on the right is video from this morning showing the scene cleared and traffic moving smoothly. of course, again very few people , on the roads this morning. but if you do have to go on the roads be aware of possible icy patches and take your time. there are nearly closings and 100 delays. schools are concerned about buses on icy roads. we have that listed below on the screen and on www.wyff4.com as well as our app. something to keep in mind this morning with your commute. drive slow, give yourself more time. aly myles live in tigerville. geoff: thank you aly. there were at least two wrecks last night that turned deadly. the coroner says he responded to the first one on north -- we will tell you more about that just a second. allyson: deadly accidents come on icy roads. nothing happening in you see traffic.

there is an accident one mile north of this that is blocking the left lane in the area. icy conditions near fountain in, i 35 north and southbound down at highway 14. an accident there. 385 northbound at harrison bridge road. also one of the road with injuries this morning. one on roper monrovia at several areas we need to watch out for as we head out the door talking about ice in northern greenville county and highway 441. be careful. there is a look at asheville in the area. icy conditions on the roadways. head out the door this morning. turned of the last night. the coroner says he responded to the first one on north pleasantburg and villa road. night. he says while an officer was working the scene. the police cruiser was hit by another car, one person died at the scene. the other person was taken to the hospital with serious injuries the officer was also injured and no word on the extent of the injuries. allyson: the other deadly wreck

else, let them drop some of their missiles. allyson: south carolina voters are headed to the polls on saturday. supporters at monday's rally said trump has their back when it comes to god and guns. other potential voters said he will help the economy and defeat isis. geoff: senator ted cruz will be this afternoon for a rally with in columbia at 3:00 governor rick perry and congressman jeff duncan. that's at the columbia armory on bluff road. they will then head to anderson for another rally at the anderson civic center at 7:30 tonight. that's on martin luther king junior boulevard. allyson: ben carson will also be in the palmetto state today. he'll be in gaffney at noon for a lunch and townhall with the cherokee county gop. that's at daddy joe's barbeque on west floyd baker boulevard. ben carson's wife candy carson will be visiting riverside middle school in greer today to discuss voting and citizenship. this is video of her visiting langston charter school back in january. she'll be at riverside middle school at noon today. geoff: also happening today. bill clinton will be campaigning for hillary clinton in the upstate.

asheville police.... say they've arrested a man i they've arrested a man in connection with a woman's death. 29-year-old. james norton is charged with first-degree murder. police say he fatally stabbed. christina kessinger with a screwdriver friday afternoon. norton is being held at the buncombe county detention center. geoff: in spartanburg county. a teenager died from injuries in a wreck over the weekend. highway patrol says a 16-year-old driving a motorcycle hit a pickup truck on saturday. they say it happened at the intersection of whitlock street and ruby street. troopers say the driver died yesterday morning. the driver of the pickup truck was not injured. highway patrol is still investigating the crash. allyson: also in spartanburg county. a woman has been charged with hit and run, after police say she hit a man on a moped and

kelsey bailey is charged with hit&run causing injury. police say they got a tip about bailey being the possible suspect. officers say bailey admitted to the hit and run. in columbia, a 24-year-old woman was arrested after being found at keenan high school with a gun. officers say aelijah robinson has been charged. they say she threatened to hurt students at the school. threats against the students were reported to the school's resource officer. robinson was confronted by that officer in the school's parking lot. deputies say they found a gun in the front passenger seat of the car. robinson faces multiple charges including unlawful possession of a weapon. geoff: it was a horrific scene. a garbage truck goes tumbling off a miami interstate. how the tragic accident happened.

dale: good morning, 5:17 is the time as we check out area temperatures. spartanburg is the coldest at 32 degrees. rain overnight. it looks like a lot of that rain is coming to an end. we have cloudy conditions, wet roads. the counties by got impacted by the storm are polk, rutherford, and cleveland county in north carolina. a store warning continues until 6 a.m. this morning. it will take a while for that to break up. a lot of trees broken down because of the weight of the ice , slippery driving conditions. a lot of accidents occurred yesterday and especially in the photos of north carolina. expanding our view a little bit, we can see rain pushing on through end of the coast. we had anywhere from a half to three quarters of an inch of rain last night. ice buildup, especially in higher elevation, roads and mountaintops made for very slippery conditions. you may still find a good bit of ice under windshield this

watch out for steps that may still be icy even a temperatures are now climbing upper freezing for a good bit of the area. asheville at 35, greenville and 34. abbeville and greenwood in the mid to upper 40's. quite a range of temperatures across the region early. by the afternoon, we see upper 40's in the mountains and upper 50's in the upstate. the breeze makes it feel like it is in the 20's. dress warmly for the morning. by the afternoon, we see temperatures improve. normal for this time of the year is about what we will see today. average is 56 for a high. we will get up to 57. a record of 80 was set back in 1911. we have had hotter and colder days on this date in february. average in the mountains is 51. we will get up to upper 40's today and will see temperatures back to normal over the next couple of days. this system moves up the coast. we get a break and look forward to sunny days, especially once they all the way through the weekend. looking good.

the country, chilly all the way down into northern's -- into new orleans. high temperatures getting back to normal. the rain is, temperatures 57 for the upstate, upper 40's for the mountains today. we may see some flurries tonight, a wraparound effect from western north carolina. by tomorrow, sunny afternoon, same kind of temperature, upper 50's. by friday, 60 in the upstate. both of the mountains and the upstate will enjoy 60's for highs over the weekend. warmer than normal weather for saturday all the way through monday. geoff: 20 minutes after 5:00 the , carolinas and georgia are not the only states to be impacted by the storm. it has already been wreaking havoc in virginia. this was how it looked in blacksburg yesterday a good bit of snow there. plow trucks were out in full force with a significant coating of snow on the roads. the remaining concern there too the threat of freezing rain. , allyson: in pennsylvania. people tried to make the best of the snow.

and left roadways slushy. geoff: in washington, a president's day storm coated the white house with snow yesterday. a winter storm warning is in effect for the nation's capitol until this morning. allyson: a snow plow was involved in a wreck this in louisville. the accident happened when there was about a half an inch of snow on the ground. road crews have been busy plowing away the snowfall that dropped. geoff: an interesting winter weather combination there in louisville. foggy conditions were reported along the ohio river yesterday motorists were told to be extra , careful. allyson: turning to this morning's headlines now. the planned parenthood office in colorado springs, colorado which was the scene of a mass shooting and police stand off is back open. some repairs are still being made as bullet holes can still be seen on the building. all services are still being offered, which did bring out some protesters. planned parenthood organizers said that immediately after the shooting they vowed to open the offices again as soon as possible. new security measures are in place.
