town on saturday, primary night, but they are deciding on a venue they can hold the crowd. if you would like to hear the entire interview, go to wyff4.com and you can find it there. carol: more than 1,000 people packed the west end community center in downtown greenville to hear former president bill clinton speak. he was in town to support his wife. michael: wyff news 4's nigel robertson was there. he joins us now with more. nigel: former president clinton was here just a few days ago, and got such a great response from the upstate that he asked to come back today. it was a packed house, and people only found out about it yesterday evening. he, of course, is here campaigning for his wife, hillary. the energy in the crowd was thick. voters of all ages, of all races, here to hear a former president, and rally the base to vote for hillary clinton. >> well, i'm calling all of my friends to come out. i am, because i think it's well worth it.

there is so much negativity with this election, especially on the republican side. nigel: clinton talked about immigration, gun control, and spoke directly to young people. >> she never gives up, and she won't give up on you. and she knows, if we are going to go into the future together, we've got to have shared prosperity equal opportunity, , and inclusiveness communities. if that is what you want, she is your candidate. nigel: affordable education was another big topic. in fact, before this greenville stop, clinton was in spartanburg, touring spartanburg community college and seeing what the school does firsthand. >> america ought to work like a community college works. think about it. there is no discrimination based on race or gender or sexual orientation. it's open to everybody. you learn something, where you can get a good job, at a good wage, and disputes are resolved by the community. it's the way america ought to work.

not just about hillary. >> and i like bernie, i really do. but i'm sure you've heard this before. what happens if trump wins the nomination? nigel: he and others say they want the strongest democrat to face a possible trump nomination. former president clinton agrees. >> i am telling you, from the first time i met her, to yesterday, she is the best change maker i have ever known. nigel: if you vote in the republican primary this saturday, you cannot vote in the democratic primary the week after. again, the democratic primary, is february 27th. carol: ohio governor john kasich a day stop in the upstate today. the republican candidate addressed a clap -- a crowd of several hundred people in greenville county. he said as president, he will cut taxes, balance the budget, and it eliminate regulations that hurt small businesses. >> when government at all levels

small business, then we end up doing things that really hurt small business and their ability to great jobs, because while we think about the big people, we think about all the big companies, the bulk of the jobs it created by small business. carol: he said while other candidates are focused on building a wall along the border, he says his focus is on rebuilding the economy. michael: today ben carson spoke with voters in spartanburg county and gaffney. we learned more about his future in the presidential race. here's wyff news 4's mike mccormick. >> they want to be entertained. they don't want to be informed. they want to be entertained. what i'm trying to do is point out critical issues. no one wants to hear about critical issues. they want to fight. they want to see the wwe title. mike: ben carson told us he is

and i see mess lack -- an icy mess last night. john: some snow in the mountains right now, but no ice. it will be a rain-snow event, a fast-moving system. you saw a live shot from hendersonville, 4/10 of an inch of ice yesterday. a major ice storm from henderson county to polk county to the foothills of north carolina. 1/10 of an inch of ice in downtown greenville. rain moving in quickly, a fast-moving system. it will be all liquid precipitation outside the mountains. it will be rain and wet snow in the mountains. 42 with rainy and asheville. a winter weather advisory for these counties that border tennessee about 3500 feet. expect 1-3 plus inches of snow going until 6:00 tomorrow morning. a warming trend, and we will talk weekend waited -- weekend weather later on. michael: icy weather contributed

upstate, according to the south carolina highway patrol. at least four of them were deadly. the coroner says 17-year-old lauryn agnew of easley died after a head-on collision in greenville. the crash happened on verdae boulevard, just before 8:30 last night. troopers say agnew's car hit an icy patch, crossed the center line, and hit a tow truck. agnew was a senior at southside high school. carol: also in greenville, one person died, and three others went to the hospital, as a result of two back-to-back wrecks. troopers say 28-year-old clayborn jester was standing at the site of a crash on i-385 when another vehicle hit him, forcing him ovov the retaining wall and down an embankment. police say a greenville officer responding to the first crash was one of the people injured. michael: a taylors woman died from injuries this morning, after a crash on state park road that happened yesterday. the coroner say 68-year-old dorethea drummond's suv hit another suv head-on around 3:45 monday afternoon. highway patrol is still investigating this. carol: this morning in walhalla, a woman died after crashing on an icy road.

63-year-old judy tilson wrecked just before 6:00 a.m. on highway 11. the coroner says she was on the way to work when she crashed. >> and i literally, in slow motion, saw the car go this way and that and it hit the curb and it flipped.

chuck gaines with farm bureau insurance says it's not necessarily a busy time for his industry. >> i think a lot of times, that's just people running into the ditch, and maybe there's no real property damage, but they're just having it be towed out of the ditch, and then they go on their merry way home. myra: chuck gaines with farm bureaus says although there were more than 200 accidents, he says that isn't as -- that much when you think about how bad things could have been. he considers that a reasonable number of accidents, and he says that is due to up-to-date weather reports and early decisions by business owners and school districts to keep people off the roads. myra ruiz, wyff news 4, live in greenville. >> he said, i thought you were a teacher. you're really only in 8th grade? that's awesome, haha. michael: an upstate eighth grader has caught the attention of a presidential campaign. how a 14-year-old managed to get

and 8th graders about her husband ben carson's presidential campaign. but she might not have ever stepped foot here, had it not been for a phone call from an unknown number to elaina bell. >> i had to get out of class, and i was like, i have to answer this, no matter what. mandy: as part of a u.s. history project, this 8th grader contacted all the presidential campaigns to see if they'd pay the school a visit. carson's called her back. >> your phone rang. how did you know it was the campaign? >> because i didn't know who it was. mandy: so, you went to the bathroom to check the phone? >> haha, yeah. mandy: so once you kind of figured out what was going on, then what did you do? >> i was, like, running down the hallways. i was like, i have to give this to him, to make sure he doesn't hang up or anything. >> i was sitting in my office, and elaina came in and handed me a phone, and said, here. i want you to talk to this person. i said, who is it? and she said, it's from ben carson's campaign. mandy: principal kevin black says the campaign first thought this 14-year-old was a teacher. >> once he realized that it was

feet, winter weather advisory continues for parts of the north carolina mountains. no ice this time around. this will be rain outside the mountains, and rain-wet snow in the mountains. no ice. it is a fast-moving system, pretty potent. a strong system in the upper atmosphere, you can see the counterclockwise circulation. it will fly through the area. this was supposed to produce 1-3 inches of snow, but look at this. a little heavier rain developing behind the first batch in middle tennessee. that will move through. we may see a few places with more than 3-4 inches of snow in the higher elevations of the mountains of north carolina. the rain is mainly north of i-85 into northeastern georgia. the rain-snow makes in western north carolina. in the upstate, there is the rain from travelers rest to gaffney. just liquid prececitation. liquid precipitation into northeastern georgia, raining in
