look what happens. when will the wedge breakdown? a line of heavy thunderstorms, one thing is a guarantee, we will see heavy thunderstorms move across our area, whether or not they are severe is another thing but i think we will see 1-3 inches of rain associated with the heavy showers and thunderstorms. tomorrow, the storm prediction center has a moderate risk of the gulf coast. chris joins me. the road. this is a dangerous situation along the gulf coast. chris: they have issued this area, which they don't do a lot. the threat is high from hattiesburg to montgomery, south of jackson, mississippi. that area means if there is a tornado, it will have a long track and it will be ef-two or stronger. e-cig ethic and risk -- a significant risk. the threat lose our way on wednesday.

chance of severe weather heading into the morning hours. here are the threats. john joins me now. john, every threat is on the table? john: it is. the lowest is hailed. we could see some hail, but it is in the low category. the highest category is flash flooding. we could see heavy rain with a thunderstorms rumbling through. strong winds, straight-line winds possible. low to medium risk for tornadoes because we have wind shear going on. especially south o o i-85, that is the best chance of isolated tornadoes. we will be watching that closely. now back to you. michael: breaking news this evening, out of the republican race for president. carol: senator ted cruz has asked his campaign spokesman to resign. this, after spokesman rick tyler tweeted a story that falsely accused marco rubio of insulting the bible. michael: cruz says tyler is a good man, and deleted the tweet once he found it was false. carol: it was a gop primary south carolina voters won't soon forget. michael: not only did donald trump dominate the primary, voter turnout in this state may have reached new heights.

with the numbers. tim? tim: voter turnout on saturday , michael and carol, was impressive to say the least. check this out. 25% of all registered voters in south carolina cast a ballot on saturday for one of six gop contenders. that's a 4%4%igher turnout than what we saw in 2012, when 22% voted. and look at these comparisons of voter turnout on saturday, to the 2012 gop primary in union, cherokee, pickens, laurens, and anderson counties. massive numbers of voters went to the polls this year. the same story in abbeville, spartanburg, greenwood, oconee, and greenville counties. 4 years ago, 8 years ago, these turnout numbers were unheard of. the turnout on saturday was even greater than the record-setting turnout by democrats in 2008, who were eager to see president obama elected. 24% of voters cast ballots in that primary, which is still 1% shy of the gop vote this past
6:03 pm
michael? michael: thanks, tim. republican candidates have moved on to campaigning in nevada, and super tuesday states. donald trump won saturday's south carolina gop primary. however, some would say governor nikki haley, won as well. her late endorsement of marco rubio may have been exactly what put the senator ahead to a second place showing. the final numbers show rubio beat senator ted cruz by only 1,091 votes. donald trump carried almost the entire state, except two counties. rubio won charleston and richland counties. >> the governor's endorsement, how big was that? >> i think it was huge. jeb would have performed much better than he did, had governor haley endorsed him rather than rubio. and i certainly think it helped rubio considerably in his fight with cruz for that second place spot. michael: you may recall greenville mayor knox white, , congressman trey gowdy, and senator tim scott all endorsed rubio, as well.

was the biggest problem voters faced during the primary. wyff news 4's myra ruiz tells us what happened to one voter, who then went to the right precinct, but still couldn't vote. myra: we're at the spartanburg county voter registration and elections office, where some people are casting absentee ballots. the director here says if you're going to do that, it's better to it earlier than later, and that also applies to when you're showing up at the popos on primary day. >> every single election, we have that group that, their tendency for human nature to wait until the last minute. >> they usually will come in sweating and panting, and like, "oh, i made it." myra: that's exactly what crossed through sergeant janelle martucci's mind on saturday. >> i pointed to them, and told them, it's two til 7:00. the polls don't officially close until 7:00. myra: but elections officials say they follow their own clocks, not voters' watches. sgt. martucci says she had just wrapped up drill duty, >> a soldier in uniform, it has an impact on people. myra: and thought they could make an exception.
6:05 pm
myra: by law, the clerk has to declare out loud that the polls are closed. >> but if you get to that line after that announcement's been made, then by law, you're not allowed to vote. myra: elections officials says people should check with scvotes.org to make sure they know where they need to be, so they can get there on time. >> but don't wait until the last minute. myra: in the case of sgt. martucci, director henry laye says he actually spoke to the clerk where she showed up, and said that the clerk was also so upset that she had to turn away a woman in uniform that she brought that up with her sunday school class the very next day. myra ruiz, wyff news 4, spartanburg. michael: it's five days until south carolina's democratic presidential primary, and bernie sanders continues asking for help in what he calls his "political revolution." sanders spoke at a cafe in sumter this morning to a group of supporters. the vermont senator spoke to the group about jobs, education, and raising the minimum wage.
