dale: right now, the worst of the storm activity stretches from hickory just west of charlotte and all the way down to parts of york and chester counties and into fairfield and newberry county. thunderstorms are rumbling around that line. all the area is shaded inbred because it is a tornado watch in effect until -- shaded in red because it is a tornado watch in effect until 7:00 tonight. a severe thunderstorm morning stretches from your countertop -- stretches from up to western north county. the eastern part of the upstate is getting hit pretty hard. everyone seen strong wind of 30 to 40 mile per hour's. that associated with thunderstorms has been toppling trees in the foothills. in cleveland county, burke

the storms that pass through a little while ago. i'm sure there will be more power outages. all these storms are working in racing to the east. here is the latest in oconee county and northwest pickens county with a thunderstorm. another one trying to develop an avon county. the worst is passing through our area now. we will stay under that watch and all that area shaded in red until 7:00 tonight and underwent advisories until midnight. they continue and then cooler air flows in. it warmed up into the upper 60's and we are seeing wind 30 to 40 plus across the area, so be careful. we will talk about what to expect tonight, tomorrow in just a few minutes. geoff: thank you. the storms are bringing trees down across the upstate. we showed you one in greenville. they are also down in spartanburg this afternoon. wyff news 4's mike mccormick is

lines down on one major road. mike? mike: geoff, we are in the middle of spartanburg to give you an idea. the begin is just up that way. in that direction, you are headed toward the west side of spartanburg. you can see this line right here in the power crew just showed up. i treat them up on that side of the road came down into the power line with it. it has been hanging in the road for quite some time. down that way, police and the fire truck had that side of john b. white senior boulevard blocked off and they are detouring traffic. as you come this way and had down john b. white senior boulevard, which turns into reidsville road, police have it shut down. we just watched two vehicles blast by that police officer and come this way. they realized that there apparently were not supposed to do that and they must flashing lights and they turned around.

there and the officer either gave a warning or citation of some sort to that vehicle. it is creating some confusion for people. this officer has been trying to detour traffic that way and they are detouring down on this side of john b. white senior boulevard. this is shut down, so if you or someone you know has to come this way, avoid this and maybe take 2920 west side of spartanburg. the duke energy vehicle just pulled up to get this line out of the road. close to 4100 people with no power in spartanburg county and that includes the campus of usc upstate. they were saying that they are not sure when power will be restored to the campus. they are urging the professors to decide whether or not they want to have classes in the dark. this is an example of what is happening. lines down because of the wild wind with the system. mike mccormick wyff news 4 ivan spartanburg.

live in spartanburg. geoff: thank you. in other parts of the southeast, the storms spawned strong tornados last night, leaving at least three dead, 30 injured, and a line of destruction from louisiana to florida. jacob rascon is in convent, louisiana, with more. jacob behind me is what is left : of sugar hill mobile home park, more than 150 homes now just piles of ruble. some of them thrown blocks from where they were originally. two people died here, more than 30 were hospitalized, seven of those critical, and they have been searching for three people missing, who may be trapped in the ruble. -- in the rubble. a desperate search for survivors, hope nearly lost. some 150 mobile homes ripped to shreds. trucks twisted like toys, a neighborhood wiped off the map, dozens were injured, many of them pulled from the rubble, barely alive. >> we're asking for calm for this area. we're asking for prayers. we need that, this community needs that. jacob some 19 million people

wyff 4 mobile app. one day after president obama resubmitted his plan to close guantanamo bay's detention facility south carolina senator , lindsey graham is speaking out against the plan. myra ruiz is joining me live in studio. myra: geoff, senator grahm joined two of his republican colleagues, john mccain and kelly ayotte, to criticize what they're actually calling a lack of a plan. the senators said they were expecting to see some specific information in that eight-page document, like where the president would prefer to hold future detainees at the close guantanamo bay and what the facility would look like and how much it would cost to run it. they also talked about how there was no mention of protection in place for those who would need to interrogate future terrorists who would be detained. senator lindsey graham said he first approached the in ministrations about the plan more than six years ago and called the president's latest plan a chinese menu.

which is a very serious, i guess, symbol for a lot of the people around the world who would do us harm and try to recruit others to do us harm. geoff: before the town hall, clinton attended an emotional forum just down the street. mothers whose children were victims of gun violence or who died while in police custody met with clinton and former congresswoman gabrielle giffords. holly wild animal park once to make improvements and they're asking for the public's help. this morning, they held a public forum at the spartanburg area chamber of commerce. recently the park has suffered a , devastating fire, bad weather, and criticism from peta. executive director says they need to raise $500,000 this year.

night, where he spent so much of his time on the soccer team. tyler was set to graduate high school this year. family and friends shared their favorite stories of tyler from the bleachers, capping the night with the release of paper lanterns. >> we just came to support the community. we live here, my kids go to school here, and it's really all we could do and pray. geoff: jason dalton has been charged with six counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder, stemming from saturday's shooting spree, which targeted people at random over several hours. investigators say dalton confessed, but has not given them any motive. a bill to repair south carolina roads has appeared to hit a major roadblock. the senator is continuing his filibuster that started last week. it is threatening the chance for any road repairs this year. davis says he's opposed to raising the gas tax in south carolina by 12 cents per gallon.

45 to 50 mile-per-hour wind. the areas in yellow, including cherokee county, union county, york, chester and newberry under a tornado watch. that will continue until 7:00 tonight. as we take a look at western north carolina, we have flash flood watches in effect because of all the rain we have had. as we take a look at the latest live super doppler 4 hd and talk about thunderstorms across the area, that is the strong thunderstorm in northern york county, headed toward charlotte, down to parts of chester, fairfield county into newberry and another thunderstorm in northern pickens county, transylvania county, and more action to the west. hopefully, things will start to calm down parried strong wind at 45 to 55 miles per hour will topple more trees this afternoon.

for parts of the eastern part of the upstate to the center part of north carolina. here is a quick look at the temperatures. it got up to 70 in greenville, 71 in abbeville, 75 in elberton after the cold day yesterday. we got into the upper 40's and it has warmed up today. we are seeing 26 in greenville, 29 in spartanburg, 30 in anderson and 30 to 50 gusts could topple trees. winter advisories until 7:00. we will continue to track this. john will have the latest and cold temperatures coming in tonight, dropping it to the 30's tomorrow morning. 32 in the mountains with snow early, 36 in the upstate. the highs tomorrow just low 40's to low 50's with windy conditions. geoff: thank you. coming up later this afternoon
