is going to hang with us a while today. 52 in greenville, spartanburg will. asheville, low 40's best today. we'll talk more about the rest of the week in just a few minutes. allyson: today will be a busy day for clean-up in the carolinas. severe weather blanketed the carolinas yesterday. but it's the wind that created most of the damage left behind. take a look at this damage on west main street in spartanburg. three businesses were open at the time. and insurance agent happened to witness the destruction. >> sitting at the stop sign, all of the sudden a gust of wind hit the roof and i watched it blow off and then a power line disconnected and sparks were jumping everywhere. allyson: drivers were not safe in the wind either.

windshield. on that same road, a tree fell onto an suv. both drivers are ok. another impact from the wind. a lot of power outages. some utility poles were actually snapped in half, like the ones you see here on southport road. the good news, duke energy crews are out this morning. they're continuing to work to get the power back on. geoff: those power outages also affected traffic lights. this happened in greenville along highway 25 at roe ford road. firefighters tell us two vehicles collided after the traffic lights went out. two cyclists who were riding in a group also got hit by a car. however, no one was seriously hurt. the strong winds are blamed for the death of a man in the pee pee dee area. he was killed yesterday in darlington county. officials say the man was walking when a strong gust of wind took down a tree branch. it fell on top of him, killing him. and check out this tornado video from henderson, north carolina.

allyson: hillary clinton and bernie sanders have been in south carolina in recent days. but they've not made a habit of campaigning in the state. since april of last year, they've made fewer than 30 visits to south carolina. a majority of them not in the upstate. >> i don't know if you've looked around your neighborhood, but there really aren't a lot of democrats in the upstate. we have a few pockets of them. but if you surveyed the elected officials in the upstate, you'd find that there are very few democrats. allyson: this week both clinton and sanders have no scheduled trips north of columbia before saturday's primary. geoff: hillary clinton made a campaign stop in west columbia. she met with members of the alpha kappa alpha sorority yesterday. and among the guests, steve hurd, the husband of cynthia hurd. she was one of the emanuel nine killed in charleston last summer. she was an aka member. later in the afternoon, clinton talked with news 4 about gun violence.

90 people a day. that is 33,000 people a year. i just find it appalling, and i wewere not coming together to find ways to keep guns out of the wrong hands, and i am going to keep working on it. geoff: you can see more of that hillary clinton interview tonight on wyff news 4. allyson: harry reid is endorsing hillary clinton. mr. reid: i think the middle class would be better served by hillary. she is a person who is a very quick learner. all you need to do is look at what happened after 9/11. she fought for new york like i've never seen anyone fight. allyson: clinton also won the endorsement of the longshoreman's union. she thanked the members in charleston yesterday. geoff: tonight all remaining republican candidates will take the stage for a final debate before super tuesday. the debate kicks off at 8:30

dale: here is some video from boone. you can see it blowing snow. the mountains getting some flurries of snow across the area. doesn't seem to be a problem on the roads. there is a two-hour delay in graham and madison county. winter weather advisories for the mountains of georgia and north carolina. madison, swain seeing some action early. as we expand our view, look at the cold air from canada, impacting the ohio valley and parts of north carolina, virginia with flurries of snow this morning. temperatures drop down cold again. 29 in boone.

let's check on a few other communities. 41 in chesnee. 42 in union. try on, 40. we are getting 15 to 20-plus mile-per-hour winds. in boone it feels like 12. it feels like freezing for greenville and spartanburg. temperatures average 59 for a high this time of year. the record is 79. we can have very warm days this time. of year asheville 53 on average for a high. clouds and flurries in breezy conditions we're seeing today. gradual improvement over the next couple of days.

and virginia. at least seven deaths have been contributed to the storms. those severe storms made their way up the east coast, leaving a path of destruction all the way from the carolinas to pennsylvania. last night, firefighters in lancaster county, pennsylvania, responded to numerous reports of collapsed homes, downed trees, and downed power lines. first responders searched through the buildings and tree limbs to see if anyone was trapped, but have not found any victims so far. allyson: check out this drone video from florida. a tornado ripped a two-mile path through pensacola. nearly 100 homes and apartments suffered severe damage. geoff: in virginia, appomattox county was hit hard by the severe weather. there are numerous reports of downed trees, fallen power lines, and storm damage. active rescues are going on in essex county, where several people are reportedly trapped in rubble. the wind-packed weather system even knocked out phone service to a state police unit. crews were working to fix the problem.

who have no power. allyson: a line of strong, dangerous storms prompted severe thunderstorm warnings and caused flooding in the washington, d.c., area. the storm left thousands of people without power and brought strong winds and hail. a d.c. metro parking garage flooded, with water reaching curbs. metro officials opened the gates so drivers could leave more easily, and maintenance crews were on hand. major flight delays are reported at all three of the region's major airports. two faculty members from spartanburg methodist college showed the world they have moves. that's president scott cochran and economics professor jonathan keisler. the duo joined the school's new hip-hop dance team, the blue chucks, for just one number. it took place at the school's auditorium. it was a full house. this was the group's first public performance. geoff: there were showing off their moves. hollywild animal park in spartanburg county wants to make

asking for public support. the park held a public forum at the spartanburg area chamber of commerce yesterday. around 25 people attended to discuss how they can help keep the park in business. recently, the park has suffered a devastating fire, criticism from peta, and a list of violations from the usda. hollywild says they've made the required changes. the executive director says hollywild needs to raise $500,000 this year. >> it's an ambitious goal, we realize, but in 16 years we've never asked likek this before. we're asking now. really trying to establish existence for hollywild's 15-16 existence long into the future. geoff: the park, which is a nonprofit, has never done a full-fledged fundraising campaign. the executive director says it's important that the park is honest and forthright about their issues. she says they've hired a new curator who used to hold the position at the greenville zoo. allyson: the lions club

years old and chose the spartanburg lions to help celebrate the years of volunteer work done. the lions vice president bob corlew and fellow lions made a stop in the upstate yesterday to the south carolina school for the deaf and the blind. this is part of the lions centennial bus tour. the group is making 26 stops in nine southeast states to unveil plans for the assocations 100th anniversary. >> our purpose in doing the tour is to meet with lions members and the communities we pass through to talk to them and see the types of projects that they are doing to help the local community because lions, of course it's our goal to serve and make each community better. allyson: the group also discussed how lions can best serve the needs of a new century. geoff: a spartanburg teenager celebrated her birthday by giving back. this is the third year she's done so. 14-year-old ginger dailey presented all of her birthday money, $1500, to the gibbs
