this is the calm after the storm. dale: we had the stormy weather yesterday. still getting some flurries of carolina. two-hour delay for graham and madison counties so far. low 40's in the upstate. it feels colder with that wind loading. 41 mile-per-hour winds in boone. 12 to 17-plus across the upstate. it feels like 12 in boone. 24 in hendersonville. dress warmly this morning. 52 this afternoon. upper 30's, low 40 range for the mountains.

of the week in just a few minutes. allyson: many people in the dark. just over 3,700 people are without power in greenville. in spartanburg, 3,500. in anderson, there are over 1000 . in rutherford, also over 1000 customers without power. geoff: today will be a busy day for clean-up in the carolinas. severe weather blanketed the carolinas yesterday. really the wind that created most of the damage left behind. wyff news 4's aly myles with a look at some of the damage live from west main street in spartanburg. aly: it is still very cold and very windy this morning. the wind was so bad yesterday. it was breaking limbs and ripping roof tops from buildings. that roof has completely crushed

it is hard to see where it started from the beginning. yesterday. three businesses inside it were open at the same time. an insurance agent who insures that building happened to witness the destruction. >> sitting at the stop sign, all of the sudden a gust of wind hit the roof and i watched it blow off and then a power line disconnected and sparks were jumping everywhere. aly: drivers were not safe in the wind either. a limb fell on a moving car's windshield. on that same road, a tree fell onto an suv. both drivers are ok. another impact from the wind. you guys mentioned earlier a lot of power outages. some utility poles were actually snapped in half, like the ones you see here on southport road. the good news, duke energy crews are out this morning. they're continuing to work to get the power back on.

geoff: thank you, aly. those power outages also affected traffic lights. this happened in greenville along highway 25 at roe ford road. firefighters tell us two vehicles collided after the traffic lights went out. two cyclists who were riding in a group also got hit by a car. however, no one was seriously hurt. the strong winds have now done -- one man was killed who was walking when a strong gust of wind took out a tree branch. and check out this tornado video from henderson, north carolina. that town is northeast of raleigh. our meteorologists say that tornado was traveling at a speed of 60 milers per hour. we are continuing to monitor the weather. we'll bring you the latest updates on our wyff 4 mobile app. keep an eye on the weather, track the storm, and get the

it is very windy in western north carolina. asheville, 36. greenville, 41. 39 in spartanburg. a cool beginning to the day, especially when you factor in the wind. 38 mile-per-hour wind in boone. it feels like 30 in spartanburg with the breezy blowing. that is been the culprit. that system still impacting a good bit of the great lakes in the ohio valley with snow and cold temperatures today. afternoon high temperatures today, low 50's for the upstate. mountains will see 40, maybe 42. dropping back into the 30's this

snow expected tonight. should be sunny on friday through the weekend. sunday, low 60's for the upstate. and it stays that way through the middle of next week geoff:. thank you. turning to some severe weather video. tornadoes ripped through parts of central north carolina yesterday. take a look at the damage. they tore roofs off of homes and knocked down trees. at least four tornadoes were confirmed to have touched down in the state. soft-ball-sized hail also fell in some of the same areas. nationwide this week, strong storms have decimated parts of louisiana, mississippi, florida and virginia. at least seven deaths have been contributed to the storms. those severe storms made their way up the east coast, leaving a path of destruction all the way from the carolinas to pennsylvania. last night, firefighters in lancaster county responded to numerous reports of collapsed homes, downed trees, and downed power lines. first responders searched

limbs to see if anyone was trapped, but have not found any victims so far. allyson: check out this drone video from florida. a tornado ripped a two-mile path through pensacola. nearly 100 homes and apartments suffered severe damage. geoff: in virginia, appomattox county was hit hard by the severe weather. there are numerous reports of downed trees, fallen power lines, and storm damage. active rescues are going on in essex county, where several people are reportedly trapped in rubble. the wind-packed weather system even knocked out phone service to a state police unit. crews were working to fix the problem. a shelter is open for residents who have no power. allyson: a line of strong, dangerous storms prompted severe thunderstorm warnings and caused flooding in the washington, d.c., area. the storm left thousands of people without power and brought strong winds and hail. a d.c. metro parking garage flooded, with water reaching curbs. metro officials opened the gates so drivers could leave more easily, and maintenance crews were on hand. major flight delays are reported at all three of the region's

incoming flights at reagan washington national airport were delayed by more than an hour, on average. geoff: another kind of weather problem for much of illinois and southeast missouri, snow. high gusts, paired with the heavy snow, has brought down utility lines, cutting power to tens of thousands of customers. downed lines left more than 14,000 people across this area in the dark yesterday. allyson: light snow is falling across the texas panhandle. residents in amarillo woke up to light snow and heavy fog yesterday. visibilities were less than a mile at times, making for a slow commute. the snow and wind is part of the same weather system currently bringing severe storms to the deep south. geoff: a spartanburg teenager celebrated her birthday by giving back. this is the third year she's done so. 14-year-old ginger dailey presented all of her birthday

cancer center. it's all in memory of her grandfather. >> me and my papa were really close, and three years ago he passed away from cancer, so i wanted to make a donation to other people to help treat them. geoff: the funds will go toward spartanburg regional's cancer special needs fund. that helps pay for medicine, transportation, and other unexpected expenses for cancer patients. allyson: the lions club interntational is turning 100 years old and chose the spartanburg lions to help celebrate the years of volunteer work done. the lions vice president bob corlew and fellow lions made a stop in the upstate yesterday to the south carolina school for the deaf and the blind. this is part of the lions centennial bus tour. the group is making 26 stops in nine southeast states to unveil plans for the assocations 100th anniversary. >> our purpose in doing the tour is to meet with lions members and the communities we pass
