a majority of those outages were in our area right now. in spartanburg county, they reported 500 without power. that is a lot less than yesterday, when it was close to 4000. wrinkle county have a little over 100 people without power. -- greenville county has a little over 100 people without power. wyff news 4's aly myles is live and local in greenville with some other concerns officials are having following the severe weather. aly: we are close to the post office right now. if you take a look behind me, even see where the road is shut down. according to duke energy, both the pole and powerline will need to be replaced. this is a result of the strong winds. duke energy says that because of the extent of the damage, it is taking longer to restore all of those outages. take a look at this video from

this is our paris mountain skycam. it fell victim to the winds. our engineers will be working to get it back up and running on west washington street. this will not be open until those repairs are made. no word yet on when that will happen. geoff: thank you. four people are dead and 14 others are hurt after a mass shooting in kansas. that shooting happened in south-central kansas. authorities say an excel industries worker stole a vehicle and shot people in the street and parking lot. >> he never came off to be a bad guy. he was someone i could talk to about anything. >> inside the building he shot a total of 15 people. four were killed, including himself. geoff: officials are telling us a first officer to arrive immediately engaged the gunman

on tuesday. we have a better chance on wednesday of next week. allyson: thank you, dale. a bill to stop coal ash from being dumped in pickens county has been approved. now, it is on its way to governor haley for her signature. senators approved a house bill that prevents a landfill from being built in liberty. there were plans by a north carolina company to dump coal ash. the bill specifies that coal ash can only be dumped in class 3 landfills. the proposed landfill in liberty was going to be a class 2 landfill. that does not qualify for coal ash disposal. senator larry martin says the bill is "a big win" for the people of pickens county. geoff: while the debate continues over how to pay for road repairs in south carolina, the house committee approved a spending plan yesterday that provides 200 $87 million in road funding. the plan also sets aside 130

and $400 million of public education. allyson: the city of greenville has launched two mobile apps designed to make information interaction with the city more convenient. greenvillesc is the official city of greenville mobile app. the app provides information to citizens and visitors when they are on the go, such as special events and parking the second app, greenville zoo, gives users access to the greenville zoo anytime. guests can use the app to plan their visit and even view the giraffe cam. geoff: texting and driving is against the law. and some high school students got the opportunity to learn why outside the classroom. more than 200 crescent high students got to see first hand how dangerous it can be. they watched a video and put on goggles, that ushered them into virtual reality driving with slower response times. many of them said they didn't realize how hard it would be. >> it was hard. it was really hard. i would never text and drive or drink and drive. >> it definitely showed us like, this is real life. geoff: it is an offshoot of the alive at 25 program at crescent

before students can park on campus, they must first go through the national safety council's for an -- council's four adnd a half hour class on defensive driving. allyson: a pizza kitchen on wheels helped the spartanburg soup kitchen celebrate its 34th anniversary. little caesars pulled up and baked 120 pizzas in the parking lot yesterday. each guest also got a salad, chicken, and a drink. the spartanburg soup kitchen started in 1982 at the second presbyterian church. it runs without government assistance. it is open seven days a week. >> it makes me emotional sometimes. last week we had a couple who arrived here hungry and scared. they had come from another county. of course, we were through eating, but we were able to provide a meal for them. that is what makes it so wonderful. allyson: a woman who has been eating at the soup kitchen for 26 years told us she believes

in greenville, the community honored lindsey motley. faith at the new cancer survivor's park glowed with friends, family and supporters came out to remember the young greenville mother. as you may recall, lindsey had she was 26. she was pregnant at the time of her diagnoses. now, her little girl will have a way to remember her mother. >> we want everybody in the community to write letters to lila to tell her what an amazing woman her mom was. she won't be able to remember these memories. she will have video, but we want everyone to tell her what lindsey meant to them and how she inspired them. jay will be able to read those to her throughout her life and that is going to be an amazing gift. allyson: lindsey told her story publicly and encouraged others to be screened for the disease. she passed away tuesday night will stop lindsey was 29-years-old.
