[laughter] that was something. more, coming up. dale: 5:31 in the morning. cold temperatures the cost the upstate and mountains with low 30's that feel colder with the wind. light breezes in the upstate, but any time it isn't the 30's, any breeze will make it feel cooler. we are seeing an eight to 10 mile per hour breeze in the upstate and 20 plus in the mountains. it feels like 14 and hendersonville, 18 and

by the afternoon, low 50's for the upstate in the mountains stay cold early and climb into the upper 30 in the 40 range for the afternoon. it will be a nice weekend, especially by sunday. allyson: thank you. many people across the carolinas still without power this morning. geoff: the majority of them are back on in our area. in fact, spartanburg county has the most outages right now. right around 500. and it is coming down. greenville county a little over 100 and it was over 3000 yesterday. wyff news 4's aly myles is live and local in greenville wiwi some other concerns officials are following after the severe weather. aly: good morning and happy we friday. are out here on west washington street. if you take a look behind me,

we are about a block from the post office. this has been shut down since wednesday night. according to duke energy, they say they will have to replace the polls and the power lines as a result of the strong wind. duke energy says because of the extent of the damage it's taking , a little longer to restore all of the outages. it will be back open once the repairs are made for no word on when that will happen. aly myles wyff news 4 live in greenville. geoff: thank you. other news this morning, four people are dead in kansas and 14 shooting. the shooting happened in south authorities say an excel industries worker stole a vehicle, shot people in the opened fire inside the workplace. >> we was already looking at him, and he yelled and just went -- doot,doot doot and then entered the building. >> inside the building, he shot a total of 15 people four were -- 15 people.

shooter. geoff: officials tell us the first officer to arrive immediately engaged the gunman and single handily took him down. the identities of the shooter and viviims have not yet been released. allyson: commitment 2016, the candidates had an intense debate last night. it was blow after blow at trump while candidates tried to claim the spotlight. geoff: a lot of colorful debating. take a look. >> welcome to texas. >> marco, donald, ted, john, we will not solve any of these problems if we destroy each other. >> america is an amazing country where a kid like me can grow up to run for president of the united states. >> you are the only person on this stage that's ever been fined for hiring people to work on your projects illegally. you hired some. >> i'm the only one on this stage that's hired people, you haven't hired anybody.

[laughter] geoff: all of that was fairly tame compared to some of the debate we talked about earlier and showed you. the debate took place in texas, which awards about a quarter of the delegates up for grabs on super tuesday. allyson: south carolina governor nikki haley says she'll support the republican nominee even if it's donald trump. right now, she's still pushing for marco rubio to win out. haley was here in greenville for the south carolina automotive summit yesterday. she stepped aside to talk politics. the governor says she doesn't believe trump could win against the democrats. >> i think that obviously mr. trump has continued to do well but nevada really wasn't a test state. it's a small state with a caucus. it doesn't count. this march 1 will be a big one in deciding how strong are the candidates in multiple states and is that traction going to carry them forward. allyson: right now, trump is leading by 13 points over ted

politics. he has a wider spread over marco rubio and john kasich. geoff: now, just one day out from the south carolina primary, former president bill clinton was in the upstate on thursday. clinton stopped in at usc upstate for get out the vote rally, where he talked about the frontrunner from other side of the aisle, donald trump. >> when one of the republicans says, vote for me. i'll make america great again by putting up a wall and keeping the chinese products out and the immigrants out he's shooting at , the wrong target. we haven't had any immigration from mexico since 2010. but nevermind, it sounds good. geoff: hillary clinton is in columbia today for multiple rallies before saturday's primary. allyson: if you want to vote absentee for saturday's democratic primary time is , running out. you have until 5:00 p.m. today.

open late. president obama has nominated two people to serve on the united states district court for the district of south carolina. both of them have upstate ties. one is donald beatty. he has been an associate justice on the south carolina supreme court since 2007. at one point, he was a partner at a law firm in spartanburg. the other is donald coggins jr. he is a lawyer. coggins jr. works also worked for a law firm in spartanburg. he also serves as a member of the south carolina commission on lawyer conduct. geoff: in north carolina, the race is heating up for the u.s. senate. the democratic debate was hosted by wral tv. the four candidates are kevin griffin, ernest reeves, chris rey, and deborah ross. the topics included health care and social security, but they also talked about allowing syrian refugees into north carolina. >> we have to lead the world in honoring every individual. we are the light of the world. people want to come here for a reason. we need to bring them in through a comprehensive screening

continually review. >> i would open up the united states to syrian refugees as long as they can be verified by the fbi and all the agencies in the united states. if they cannot be verified, then i don't think they should be coming into the united states. >> i would want the american people to know is that we do have one of the most stringent laws in place on how to bring individuals to this country working with the fbi, cia and all our national security organizations, and so we have a process in place that is one of the best in the nation. >> we do have very strict guidelines for which refugees can come into this country and we should adhere to those guidelines and make sure that we know who is coming in, but what country they come from shouldn't be relevant to that. they should all follow the samam guidelines. geoff: the north carolina

early voting march third through the twelfth. allyson: it is kind of a crazy weather week. dale: we had horrible stormy weather come in and then windy weather and cold. wendy in the mountains today. upstate wind a little less come up with breezy enough to make it feel chilly. another warm jacket morning. as you look at i-385 and woodruff road and as a check out live super doppler 4 hd, if you look closely, some flurries of light snow right along the tennessee and north carolina border. still a little bit of bright precipitation coming down. what has fallen the last couple of days as re-froze and overnight, so watch out for areas of black ice. the winter weather advisory in effect until 7:00 this morning. 32 from asheville to greenville. 36 in spartanburg. that is cold in the eastern part of the upstate.

geoff: a little sports this workouts begin this morning in indianapolis at the nfl combine. ron rivera and the carolina panthers are in place in indianapolis. the panthers are actually a little behind on the scouting because of their super bowl run, but rivera said they are trying to get up to speed. he talked about what cam newton needs to do to take the next step as one of the nfl's elite quarterbacks. >> well, the biggest thing is kind of do what he did last year. that was when he and mike shula and kenny dorsey get together and talk about thing he wants to work on. things that we need him to work on in terms of improving as a football player and i know both groups will have a list. you know, he'll have his ideas of what he needs to work on and both mike and kenny have a list of things they would like to see him improve on, and it worked last year. it really did. geoff: the team's general manager, dave gettleman, has drafted extremely well since coming to carolina. the panthers have the 30th pick

re-freeze quickly with cold temperatures overnight, so watch out for black ice. that will continue until 7:00 a.m. you can see this big system that created the severe weather that rumbled through the southeast still producing snow into parts of virginia, tennessee and the north carolina mountains. it is cold enough to keep it there for a while. franklin and nashville at 32 and 27 in boone. greenville at 32. tracking 34 in caesars head, a little below freezing in simpsonville at 31. lyman at 37, so a range of temperatates across the region. everybody feels cold when that breeze blows. 23 to 26 mile-per-hour wind in the mountains and five to 10 in the upstate. exit feel like teens from asheville hendersonville and feels a 29 in greenwood. have a warm jacket for the

41 in this model by 2:00 this afternoon. looking ahead, it gets better. the mountains reach 46 tomorrow in the upstate has a slight increase. on sunday come up highs of upper 50's to monday. allyson: thank you. today is the deadline for apple to respond to the department of justice's court order issued over the phone belonging to one of the san bernardino terrorists. if the order stands up to legal challenges, apple would be forced to create a new customized ios firmware that would remove the passcode lockout on the seized iphone. last week, apple reiterated its commitment to privacy and that it has no connection to what data may exist on the phone. federal authorities want apple to unlock the phone as part of the investigation. geoff: a psychotherapist testifies that sportscaster erin andrews was, quote, "anxious and depressed" after the man who stalked her and posted secretly recorded videos on the internet

andrews is suing her stalker, michael david barrett, and the owner of the nashville marriott at vanderbilt university for $75 million. andrews' lawyers allege hotel management was negligent, allowing barrett to book the room next to her after he learned which one she was staying in from the staff. allyson: flames engulfed a historic rhode island home almost exactly 100-years after another massive fire at the estate built between 1870 and 1880. mayfield cottage was destroyed in a 1916 fire that left few rooms standing. the property was sold to owners who built a new house in its place called stonor lodge. a century later flames once again shot through the roof of the home. now, to some must see video. the u.s. coast guard swung into action wednesday after a fishing boat got into trouble off of new york's coast. the 74-foot boat ran aground off rockaway beach in queens. the seven crew members were

the rough waters did cause a problem for the coast guard. one of their boats, sent to assist the ship, overturned. the five coast guard members on that boat were able to safely make it to the beach. geoff: u.s. lawmakers are accusing takata of faking test results to cover up the exploding airbag issue. a report from the senate commerce, science and transportation committee shows that data on inflator quality and testing was manipulated to hide the problems. officials say the defective airbags could explode, causing serious injury or death. the takata recall has been called the largest and most complex safety recall in u.s. history. allyson: the apple watch failed stuffer. according to new report, apple shipped about 1.4 million watches. tim cook told analysts they were

but you just grins the ball out -- but you j jt rinse the bowl out. geoff: i love a bowl of cereal. allyson: i had for lunch yesterday. dale: we are not millennials. allyson: clearly. geoff: let's get to this morning's headlines. just into our newsroom, investigators are searching for gunman who shot a female deputy in berklery county. allyson: according to our nbc affiliate in charleston office , says the deputy was shot while on patrol in goose creek. officals say the deputy is in stable condition and they are still searching for the suspect. first, we want to check in with dale gilbert. there are a number of school delays running at the bottom of your screen. this note may be coming down in western north carolina. what does it look like out

dale: along the tennessee-north carolina border, fresh snow overnight. even a little will make slippery driving conditions a factor. we have had enough snow, especially in higher elevations. 32 in asheville, upper 20's in boone, mid 30's in greenville, clemson at 38. anderson checking in with 36 degrees and a few other communities in the western upstate, salem at 39 in pickens at 34. warm jackets are a good idea. by the afternoon, we will see low 50's from the upstate just struggling to get to the upper 40's -- upper 30's and the 40 range in the mountains. we will see mild temperatures by the end of the weekend. allyson: thank you. any of you still without power. crews are working around the clock to fix that.
