months before the bombings. tamerlan tsarnaev died in a shootout with police days after the 2013 bombings. three people were killed, and more than 260 were wounded. no errors were found in the processing of his application, and no warnings were ever raised. tsarnaev and his brother dzhokhar detonated two pressure-cooker bombs at the finish line. dzhokhar tsarnaev was sentenced to death for his role in the bombings. nigel: a new york state prison guard, who provided tools to two prison escapees, has been sentenced. gene palmer pleaded guilty to three of the original five charges against him. the suspended corrections officer admitted to smuggling hacksaw blades and other items to convicted murderer richard matt. today, a judge sentenced palmer to 6 months in jail, and a fine of $5,000. last year, richard matt and david sweat escaped from the clinton correctional facility. while on the run, matt was shot and killed by police, and sweat was captured. apple is reportedly weeks away from releasing a new iphone and ipad.

apple will debut a new phone and tablet on march 21st. the long-rumored 4-inch iphone se is said to have a faster chip than current iphone models. the new ipad pro is said to have a 9.7-ch screen, and a handful of new features. apple is reportedly also releasing new versions of the apple watch on that day. the release would come one day before apple is scheduled to meet with the fbi about a motion that would require the company to unlock a phone of one of the san bernardino shooters. carol: missouri senator claire mccaskill wants to outlaw so-called hidden resort fees. those are the non-optional fees hotels charge for such things as the swimming pool, gym, or even newspapers. mccaskill's proposed legislation would force hotels to reveal all resort fees when advertising a room rate. she says hidden resort fees nickel and dime consumers to death, much like the seat assignment and bag fees that

atlanta, 71 in raleigh. the storm system out here, with a low right here. snow behind the system through the dakotas, rain changing to snow through the panhandle of nebraska. snow into the northern rockies. the cold front will move like this. it will put -- it will push through our area tomorrow night, could give us thunderstorms tomorrow night. i am hoping they will not be severe. the prediction center thinks most of the energy will be west of us through tomorrow afternoon and evening, and they don't have us under the gun, but we will watch that closely. best chance of severe thunderstorms will be tomorrow evening in the southwestern mountains of north carolina and north georgia. after that, it will be dark enough, we will lose the instability and hopefully, we will lose the severe weather before it gets in here from the west. look how cold it is along the u.s.-canadian border. to the south, the map looking more like march.

moment was when "spotlight" scored the win for best movie. carol: a mother and a community are resting easy just days after a missing boy was found safe. the remarkable rescue is all thanks,to an unlikely hero. three-year-old eli alcock of florein, louisiana, went missing tuesday night. police and community joined in to look for the little boy. then, a hunting dog named honey stepped up to the task, and used his keen sense of smell to track down eli about an hour into the search. honey's owner says he is thrilled his dog was able to find the boy, and that he was nervous, because honey has only sniffed out deer in the past. >> the pressure is on, because you are asked to come perform something that you have never done before. carol: eli's mother says the toddler doesn't remember much about what happened that night, but she does plan to tell him, when he's older, how honey saved his life. aly: this lockheed martin plane could be the next one to train

nigel: lockheed martin's t-50 plane is in the running to replace the u.s. air force's current training jet. so what does that mean for the upstate? wyff news 4's aly myles explains, with an inside look. aly: for more than 50 years, the us air force has trained their pilots on the t-38. now, it's time for a change. >> the t38 has served us well, but i'm 60, and it's 50. if it feels as bad as i do, it needs to go take a break. aly: that's where this comes in. this is lockheed martin's t-50a. >> it's a great opportunity. it's been flying for 100,000 hours. we've trained over 1000 pilots already. aly: it's in the running to become the new jet to train u.s. air force pilots. >> the goal is to train like you fight. so the t-50a can allow the pilot to be trained, and step right into the f35 and f22. aly: if it's chosen, the final assembly will happen right here in greenville. >> if we're chosen by the air force for this, it'll be great for people here in south carolina. talking probably 200 plus jobs. aly: but before those pilots train here, they'll have to start here.

by the end of 2017. thanks for joining us at 5:30. news 4 at 6:00 with michael and carol starts now. >> live, local, breaking news. this is wyff news 4 at 6:00 in high definition. carol: college students killed in a devastating crash. test results show three of the four had a blood-alcohol level above the upper limit -- above the legal limit. michael: tonight, their school is hoping that the new developments send a message to the campus. carol: wyff news 4's mike mccormick is live and local in spartanburg. mike? mike: the spartanburg county coroner now says alcohol was an indirect part of the students' cause of death. that crash happened in october, on 4th street near boiling springs. 5 usc upstate students were in the car. only one survived. some of the victims' families didn't want the blood alcohol content released, so the coroner asked the state's attorney general for guidance. according to the ag's opinion.

, should be protected medical records, but he says coroners aren't regulated by the privacy law. according to the toxicology results, the car's driver, and two of the other students who died, had a blood alcohol content higher than the legal limit. >> i'm hoping that, with the release of these toxicology reports, that this will bring a greater awareness to our campus and our students, so that they know things can happen to them, but not everybody is immune to horrible things that can happen, and that they will maybe think just one little bit more. mike: usc upstate requires every incoming students goes through alcohol education programs. mike mccormick, wyff news 4, live in spartanburg. michael: now to a double murder suspect to cut through his ankle bracelet and is on the run.

away last week. now, the bonding company that put up the bail money has two teams of bounty hunters looking for the suspect. wyff news 4's tim waller is here with the story. tim: michael, the suspect is 24-year-old bradford hester williams. greenville county deputies consider him armed and dangerous. williams is accused of killing two men in the parking lot of bugatti grand nightclub on thanksgiving morning in 2014. williams was arrested and jailed on the charges, but court records show, a month and half after his arrest, circuit court judge edward w. miller granted williams a $200,000 bond. he was ordered to wear a gps monitoring bracelet like this one, which deputies say he removed last thursday when he escaped. today, a spokesman for the bonding company, which will be out $200,000 if williams isn't captured, said he thought, with a double murder charge, there would have been no bond. he said they've dispatched two teams of bounty hunters to help track down williams, adding the suspect's family is distraught,
