john: arthur knows who the student is, and even with her frayed emotions, she forgives him. >> he's 16. he's going to make stupid decisions. we all made stupid decisions at 16. john: leaving her on the front porch, to ponder her future. john lyon, wyff news 4, union. carol: the union county investigating. school officials say the sheriff saw this will determine whether the student is charged. michael: an update on a house fire that devastated a family. a five-year-old girl has died. she died from her injuries at the augusta burn center. fire officials tell us rhodes was found between the wall and a couch inside the home. it is on green street in honea path, and it happened sunday night. the little girl was rushed to the burn unit in augusta, where she died from smoke inhalation. a neighbor called 911 after

>> i heard cops hollering, "sophia!" and i seen the fire deaprtment come to the ambulance, right here at the stop sign, and they got the stretcher out. michael: friends say sophia was the youngest of five children. the rest of the family made it out safely. carol: to spartanburg county. deputies say a 5-year-old boy was accidentally shot. it happened on rowe street in the arcadia area, around 7:30 this evening. deputies say the child was taken to spartanburg medical center. at this time, we do not know where he was shot, or his condition. download the wyff news 4 app for the latest on this developing story. michael: john cessarich is right here on the heels of some fine relief from winter. but change is on the way? john: i know you don't like the cold. but tomorrow will be mild. still springlike.

he says he was trying to take photos of a protest that erupted at the event. carol: this all comes as candidates are criss-crossing the country ahead of super tuesday. but the frontrunner is facing a controversial endorsement. donald trump is still having to answer questions, after he said he could disavow white supremacist david duke, or the kkk, in an interview on cnn sunday morning. and trump's rivals are bringing it up on the campaign trail. trump maintains he'd already disavowed david duke, and didn't hear the question properly. >> what i heard was various groups, and i don't mind disavowing anybody, and i disavowed david duke, and i disavowed him the day before, at a major news conference. which is surprising, because he was at the major news conference, cnn was at the major news conference, and they heard me very easily disavow david duke. now, i go and i sit down again, i have a lousy earpiece that is provided by them. and frankly, he talked about groups, he also talked about groups. i have no problem with disavowing groups. carol: donald trump was also in

he made a stop at valdosta state university. at the rally, trump was endorsed by brian france, the chairman and ceo of nascar. meanwhile, the latest poll shows trump with 49% of support among republican voters. marco rubio and ted cruz are trailing by more than 30 points. michael: marco rubio continued his attacks on trump today. he called trump "unelectable" during a rally near knoxville, tennessee. rubio told supporters that trump's explanation on the controversy on the "today" show doesn't hold up. >> how can someone like that be our nominee? how can the nominee of the republican party, the party of lincoln, the party of reagan, the party of hope, and the party of optimism, nominate someone who refuses to criticize the ku klux klan, or distance themself from an avowed racist like david duke? michael: rubio rallied with supporters in four states today, including georgia, arkansas, and oklahoma. carol: ted cruz was in his home state of texas today. the senator and his family greeted a huge crowd of supporters.

in dallas, san antonio, and houston. he talked about his chances tomorrow. >> i am confident we are gonna have a very good day in texas tomorrow. we have tremendous support here. we have seen texans come together. carol: cruz thinks a strong performance tomorrow in texas will narrow the gop contest down to a two-person race, himself and trump. michael: ohio governor john kasich made a campaign stop in vermont today. he held a town hall at castleton university. he held a similar event in plymouth, massachusetts. he is framing himself as, quote, "the adult" in the increasingly nasty republican contest. kasich said he'll stay in this race at least until ohio, which votes in two weeks. he believes he'll win his home state. carol: ben carson spent the day in kentucky and virginia. the retired neurosurgeon held a town hall in lexington. then, he took part in a forum at regent university in virginia beach. carson says he intends to stay in the race, despite only having 4 delegates so far. michael: on the democratic side, hillary clinton is focusing on the republican candidates, rather than her democratic

clinton held a rally in springfield, massachusetts, this morning. she called for making, quote, "america whole and unified." clinton called out the republican presidential candidates. >> now, look. we have differences. that's part of the american dna. you get two americans together, and they start talking politics, you know there's going to be differences. but that's part of our great democracy. what we can't let happen is the scapegoating, the blaming, the finger-pointing that is going on on the republican side. michael: as for her opponent, no mention of him today. and underscoring of how her political fortune shifted since her loss in new hampshire. carol: her opponent, bernie sanders, also stumping for last-minute votes. sanders started his day with a rally in minnesota. he explained how he'll win. >> tomorrow is important, and

happens here in minnesota. we can win, no question, here in minnesota, if we have the turnout. carol: the latest poll shows clinton leading bernie sanders, 55% to 38%. michael: looking at the state's taking part in super tuesday, a dozen of them and one u.s. territory voting tomorrow. most will hold primaries for both parties, but in alaska, it is a republican-only caucus. in american samoa, a democratic, voters in georgia are among those heading to the polls tomorrow, so we wanted to show you what the latest poll there is saying. on the gop side, donald trump is in the lead. the latest cbs-yougov poll, done friday before the david duke comments, had donald trump at 40% in georgia, ted cruz at 29% marco rubio at 22%, ben carson , at 7%, john kasich at 2%. on the democratic side, hillary clinton is in the lead, at 63%. this is in georgia. 35% of georgia democratic voters

today, 4 of the students who died, including the driver, james campbell, had a blood alcohol content above the legal limit. the coroner says he needed guidance from the state attorney general before giving out that information. the reason was because some of the victims' families fought the release. >> i feel it more than prudent that we release the toxicology results, so we can get this story behind us, and maybe get these families some healing. carol: according to the ag's opinion, toxicology results should be considered private, but he says coroners are not regulated by privacy laws. michael: a double murder suspect out of greenville county remains on the run tonight. officials say bradford williams cut through his ankle bracelet last week. they say he was free on bond when he made his escape. williams stands accused of killing two men in the parking lot of bugatti grand nightclub on thanksgiving morning in 2014. he was arrested and jailed on the charges, but the court record show a , month and half after his arrest, circuit court judge edward w. miller granted

he was ordered to wear a gps monitoring bracelet, like the one you see there. deputies say he removed that last thursday when he got away. today, we did contacted -- we did contact the office of judge edward miller to see why he agreed to set bail for williams, but our call was not returned. carol: a student-led petition to get a teacher his job back is circulating online. how a poem figures in the firing. john: pollen count, trees remain in the moderate category, grasses showing up in the low category, so is mold.

an easley high school teacher michael: an easley high school teacher has resigned after complaints about a poem he wrote and shared with students. gregory fish would hold classes with advanced placement english literature students at the starving artist cafe. earlier this month, he shared a poem that used the f-word. parents of easley students called news 4. they say the poem also described a sexual encounter between an older man and a young girl in a pornographic way. mr. fish resigned after being placed on administrative leave, but some students say it's unfair he's gone. >> just half their family's income, over one word. that

>> we have had comments from, even students from his first year teaching, that have come out to support him, and have obviously seen the injustice in this situation. michael: students said a sit-in they planned for tuesday has been cancelled at the request of mr. fish's wife. carol: residents in polk county have a new place to seek medical help. blue ridge community health services held a grand opening today for the polk health center. it's located on west mills street in columbus. officials say the new medical home is open to anybody, regardless of insurance status. >> 20% or so of the patients here are uninsured, have difficulty paying. that same group of people, most likely, have delayed it, and their ability to access care, so they tend to be sicker, or then use the emergency room. so it's a great opportunity to try and solidify the healthcare system in polk county. carol: blue ridge community health services is a non-profit community health center.

medical care for over 50 years. u.s. astronaut scott kelly is getting ready to come home. he's been aboard the international space station for 340 days. kelly served as test subject. scientists plan to study the effects of space travel on the human body. it's all part of nasa's goal to make sure astronauts can handle a trip to mars. kelly will return to texas on wednesday. >> now, your live super doppler 4 hd weather forecast. john: we have some storms moving through oklahoma. the strong storms are moving through oklahoma city. this yellow box is a severe thunderstorm. it will affect us tomorrow afternoon, and tomorrow evening. as it moves east, the prediction center has this area under the gun, northwest georgia, maybe even southeastern tennessee. but not across our area. these thunderstorms should weaken before they get here book -- by tomorrow evening.

campbell not practicing this spring, to concentrate on issues off the field. he said he is making progress. in clemson, ricardo lecompte, wyff news 4 sports. brad: the chicago bears have placed the franchise tag on former gamecock wide receiver alshon jeffrey. with the franchise tag, jeffery is due just under $14.6 million next season. he has until july 15 to reach a multi-year deal with the bears, or he must play next season under the tag. the tigers have an opportunity to knock off a top 5 team on senior night tomorrow night. clemson will host 4th ranked virginia, and although the tigers' ncaa tournament chances are likely over without an acc tournament championship, despite back to back losses, a win over number 4 virginia would be an awfully nice way to send out the three seniors at the bon secours wellness arena. >> we were pretty disappointed in our performances the past few games. but, i mean, we just have to move forward, and take what we learned from those

that's all we can do at this point, is take what weve learned so far, and try to string together some wins. brad: clemson and virginia tip tomorrow night at 7 in downtown greenville. it is championship week in south carolina. three teams from the upstate will play for state championships this weekend in columbia. for one boys team, it is the first trip to the finals in 23 years. the byrnes rebels come into the state battle game at 26-4 -- 24-4. the byrnes boys will face irmo friday at 8:30. the coach says he thinks this group is special. >> i have great kids that i trust. the seniors, seven of them are seniors. a veteran team. they have been through a lot of tough games. we are excited about the opportunity to play.

brad: the last time they won a championship was in 1990. three teams from the upstate will play for state championships this weekend in columbia. the byrnes boys will face irmo friday night at 8:30, the chirst church girls will play for their 5th state title saturday at 11:00 a.m., and abbeville is in the 2a boys title game for the first time ever. they play saturday at 4:00. what a weekend for the junior college transfer john jones down at south carolina. the switch-hitting catcher reached base in all 14 plate appearances against penn state. he went 8 for 8 with 6 walks. a couple of those were home runs, including a grand slam. arguably the best weekend at the plate in school history. the clemson tigers swept james madison over the weekend, and we continue to see the tigers hang runs on the scoreboard. since opening day clemson has , outscored opponents 55-10 over -- they will host wofford college tomorrow afternoon. wofford up to a great start, as well. carol: another look at the weather after the break. michael: first, seth meyers. seth: hi, michael and carol.
