starts to get active. it is pleasant right now. they got up to 73 degrees yesterday at gsp. this morning, 48. as you can see, a fairly nice morning across the area. as we expand our view and take a look at the southeast, you can see some shower activity starting to develop an arkansas, missouri, as that continues to advanced eastward, it will bring clouds into the area. a good chance of thunderstorms later on tonight into early tomorrow. we will be watching that. the biggest threat might be strong wind associated with thunderstorms. 38 in asheville. cool in the mountains, 34-36 from franklin to andrews. mid-to-upper 40's over most of the upstate. wind is fairly con, breezy all day yesterday. we will see them take up later on this evening as the front rows closer. for an afternoon high, 65, 66 for the upstate. for the mountains of north carolina, former the normal as

we will talk more about the next few days with an extended look in the 40 plus in just a few minutes. geoff: spartanburg county deputies tell us say a 5-year-old boy was accidentally shot overnight. we don't know much about the shooting right now. but we know it happened on rowe street in the arcadia area around 7:30. allyson: deputies sasathe child was taken to spartanburg medical center. at this time we do not where he , was shot or his condition. geoff: a wyff news 4 update now on a fire in honea path, the little girl pulled from the fire died from her injuries. allyson: the fire on green street sunday night. the news the family has gotten is worse. the anderson county coroner says 5-year-old sophia rhodes died yesterday from her injuries. fire officials tell us the child was found between a wall and a couch in the home. the little girl was rushed to the burn unit in augusta, she died from smoke inhalation. friends of the family say sophia was the youngest of five

geoff: greenville police say a man was shot in the back last night. the shooting happened at the brook haven apartment complex. police say the man was brought to greenville memorial hospital and is stable. the spartanburg county coroner says the 4 usc upstate students killed in a crash in october had been drinking. that accident happened on fourth street near boiling springs. only one of the 5 students in the car survived. according to results, 3 of the students who died, including the driver james campbell, had a blood alcohol content above the legal limit. the coroner says he needed guidance from the state attorney general before giving out that information. the reason was because some of the victim's families fought the release. toxicology results are considered private, but coroners are not regulated by privacy laws. allyson: super tuesday is here. with so many delegates to be won or lost during the voting process today, super tuesday can reveal which candidates have the best chance at winning their party's nomination for president. geoff: republican candidate ted cruz needs to win texas if he hopes to remain in his party's

frontrunner donald trump and senator marco rubio. it won't be good for democratic candidate bernie sanders if he doesn't carry his home state of vermont. allyson: now a look at the polls. this cbs you-gov poll was done friday before the david duke comments. it's trump at 40% in georgia. ted cruz at 29 marco rubio at 22 ben carson at 7 john kasich at 2%. geoff: on the democratic side. hillary clinton leads, with 63%. 35% of democratic voters in georgia supporting bernie sanders. polls in georgia open today at 7:00 a.m. and close at 7:00 p.m. wyff news 4's nikole killion now with more of what's at stake on super tuesday. nikole: it's march madness on the campaign trail. about a dozen states weigh-in on the candidate competition with

starting to get active by 9:00, 10:00 tonight across the upstate. northeastern georgia. look for thunderstorms. you might see a flurry or two of snow tomorrow morning in the mountains of north carolina with cold temperatures behind this front. wednesday will be mostly sunny. another chance of showers thursday and friday. here is our four-day plus forecast. today, especially this afternoon and it's evening and overnight, showers and thunderstorms. the mountains may see action tomorrow morning. thursday, thursday night, a chance for showers, thunderstorms. friday, it clears up with the upstate. a few lingering showers friday into the mountains. saturday and sunday, it looks dry. a pretty weekend. upper 50's saturday. pretty close to normal. warmer thaha that sunday with a high of 65. cooler mornings but pleasant days this coming weekend. geoff: 4:37, an upstate teacher resigns after complaints over a poem he wrote. the content that caused all the controversy.

geoff: 4:41, great to have you with us. a union county teacher has resigned from her job rather than face a disciplinary hearing for nude pictures taken from her phone. leigh anne arthur was a mecha-tronics teacher at union county high school. she tells us she took partially nude pictures of herself to give to her husband. she says a student at the school took her phone, went through your pictures and sent them to , other students. the school district says arthur was at fault because she left the phone unlocked. >> he knows right and wrong. he had the ultimate decision to take pictures of my pictures and he had the ultimate decision to send them out. so i don't understand why i am being held accountable, i didn't do anything except have a dumb moment for 2 or 3 minutes. geoff: arthur says she knows who the student is and forgives him. the union county sheriff's office is investigating the incident to see whether the student should be charged. allyson: an easley high school

after complaints about a poem he wrote and shared with students. gregory fish would hold classes with advanced placement english literature students at the starving artist cafe. earlier this month he shared a poem that used the f-word. parents of easley students called news 4. they say the poem also described a sexual encounter between an older man and a young girl. mr. fish resigned after being placed on administrative leave but some students say it's unfair he's gone. >> just half their family's income over one word, that definitely is unfair. >> we have had comments from even students from his first year teaching that have come out to support him and have obviously seen the injustice in this situation. collects -- >> students said a sit-in they planned for tuesday has been cancelled at the request of mr. fish's wife. geoff: hospital visitations resricted at certain hospitals. why officials are asking you to call your loved ones rather than

dale: we finished up the month of february with above normal amounts of rain for the upstate and the mountains. it looks like more is coming. march is going to start out with a good shower coming in tonight. 46 in spartanburg this morning. light breeze out of the north at three. a got up to 73 degrees yesterday at gsp. much above normal when you consider 60 is the norm for this time of the year. we have had about above normal days are today will be another like it or not as warm as yesterday. showers with a front coming through will start to impact us later this afternoon. especially this evening. some of the showers and thunderstorms rumbling through tonight could have strong winds. keep that in mind. 38 in asheville currently. 33 in franklin. let's check on a few other communities in western north carolina. 35 in murphy. bryson city at 29. silva and franklin both at 33. a chilly beginning to the day. by the end of the day, we will see temperatures hit 60-61 in

mid 60's anticipated for the upstate today. good news for those outdoors. not as windy. 3-4 mile-per-hour breeze right now. again, after lunchtime, those winds will start to pick up a head of that front coming in tonight. we will see 20 plus mile-per-hour winds in the mountains ahead of that system. that will be our next weather maker. this cool front which will impact us tonight through tomorrow morning for parts of the area. we will see mostly sunny, cooler conditions for wednesday. cold for most of the country as you can see, north of kansas city, 33. 17 in minneapolis. 20's and 30's, low 40's in the northeast. we are still in that warmer section of the country. here is our future plus forecast. about 4:00, we see a few scattered showers and northeastern georgia. the upstate, and mountains starting to get stormy about 9:00, 10:00 tonight. a line of thunderstorms working through the upstate.

flurries of snow along the tennessee-north carolina border with cold air coming in. you will just get into the 50's for highs tomorrow. that is what is going on. mild today, 66 for the upstate later this afternoon. mountains will be more like 60, 61. these are still above normal temperatures for this time of the year. as we look ahead tomorrow, temperatures will be cooler. 43 for the mountain high. 55 in the upstate. low 50's to mid 50's thursday and friday. saturday, it will bounce back up to 59. that is about where it should be this time of the year. sunday and monday, mid to upper 60's. nice weekend. a warm up for sunday. a good start to next week. geoff: 4:48 now. virginia police officer ashley guindon will be laid to rest today. her body was escorted by dozens of police cars last night to hylton memorial chapel. that's where her funeral service will be held at noon today. the prince william county officer was shot and killed in the line of duty last saturday.

violence call when accused shooter ronald hamilton fired his gun and shot all 3 officers. allyson: a raleigh, north carolina community is struggling to deal with an officer involved shooting that left one person dead. police say the shooting victim was wanted on felony drug charges and ran away from officers trying to arrest him. at some point during the chase, police say officer d.c. twiddy shot and killed the man. rolanda byrd told nbc affiliate wral that her son, 24-year-old akiel denkins, was the victim. but police have yet to confirm his identity. the state bureau of investigation has been called in to review the shooting. geoff: an emotional erin andrews took the stand in nashville monday to testify about the secret nude video taken of her and posted on the internet. andrews broke down in tears at several points during her testimony saying she felt humiliated. the sportscaster says she suffers from depression and anxiety on a daily basis because of the incident. she says no one believed her

tape. andrews is suing michael david barrett, the man who shot the video and the owner of the nashville marriott for 75 million dollars. turning to some local headlines now. the henderson county sheriff's office's new k9s now have names and some students, have awards. meet bailey lola sniffer-doodles. and echo charlie foxtrot. we need new names. the blood hounds' handlers chose the winning names from 388 elementary students entries from across the county. the students got to meet the dogs yesterday >> one dog kept giving me kisses on the cheek. it was so cute. my favorite part about them, their energetic personality. geoff: the kids are cute, the dogs are cute. what is not great about this story? lillian contributed sniffer

allyson: mission hospital in western north carolina continues the flu. officials say people under age and anyone who just doesn't feel 12 well should call patients rather than visit them. the precaution is in effect at all mission facilities including the hospitals in asheville , marion, brevard, spruce, pine, franklin, and highlands-cashiers. health system. a spokeswoman says they have seen more flu cases but have not yet restricted visitation. infection control specialists remind all of us that we can limit our exposure to the flu by frequent hand-washing. hospital visitors can use the hand sanitizing stations at the entrance before and after visits. geoff: greenville county solid waste will no longer accept glass as a recyclable product. this is due to changes in the recycling marketplace. officials say they no longer have a place to take glass to be recycled. they add that these changes are taking place nation-wide and not just in greenville county. the county will continue to accept plastic recyclables. for a complete list of

locations you can find it on our you can find it on our website , and mobile app. allyson: residents in polk county have a new place to seek medical help. blue ridge community health services held a grand opening yesterday for the polk health center. its located on west mill street in columbus. officials say ththnew medical home is open to anybody regardless of insurance status. >> 20% or so of the patients here are uninsured, have difficulty paying. that same group of people most likely have delayed it and their ability to access care, so they tend to be sicker or then use the emergency room. so it's a great opportunity to try and solidy the healthcare system in polk county. allyson: blue ridge community health services is a non-profit community health center. they have been providing medical care for over 50 years. geoff: 4:52 this morning, 49 days.

bowl. now to the basketball court. as some high school teams look to bring home state trophies this week. wyff news 4 sports director brad fralick has more. brad: it is championship week here in south carolina, 3 teams from the upsate will play for state championships this weekend. for one boys team, it's the first trip to the final in 23 years. the byrnes rebels have been ranked at or near the top of the state rankings all season long, they come into the state title game at 24 and four. they will face irmo in the 4a boys final, a program that has made a habit of winning state championships. rebels coach layne fowler, says he thinks his group is special, >> i've got great kids that i trust. they are seniors, a lot of them. seven of them. we are a veteran team. they have been through tough games. we are excited about playing coach whipple at irmo, they have a really good team, so we will see what happens. brad: a byrnes state

geoff: in this morning's buzz. bugatti says it's about to break the record for the fastest car in the world. allyson: the french carmaker revealed this this new wonder at the geneva motor show. it is called the chiron. and bugatti promises it to be faster and more powerful than all its previous models. geoff: it is pretty sharp. the brand is known for high-performance super cars. we still don't know how fast the chiron can go but its been capped at 260-miles-per-hour for road use. allyson: bugatti says it's already sold about a third of the 500 chiron series cars it plans to make. the price tag? a base of $2.6 million. i don't want to drive that thing is a goes that fast. geoff: that is a little too fast on stone avenue. dale: are there any roads in the -- with world where you can go that fast? allyson: no. is it smart to go over 200 miles an hour?

allyson: yeah, but i can try that. geoff: some kind of car right there. our news continues right now. >> live, local, breaking news. this is wyff news 4 today in high definition. geoff: a small earthquake hit north carolina overnight. u.s. geological survey says a magnitude, 2.4 quake hit outside of burnsville in yancey county. so far no reports of damage. according to earthquake tracker.com the quake happened a little after 9:30. >> i felt, i guess you could say your stomach hits the floor, i mean you know is this really happening to me? allyson: an upstate teacher resigns. after a student takes photos meant for her husband from her phone. hear what she has to say about the ordeal. geoff: it's super tuesday. with over a thousand delegates on the line. the 2016 presidential hopefuls are hoping voters will show up in full support today. allyson: almost a minute after 5:00.
