The Epic, Gothic, Horror Soap Opera, depicts the lives, loves, trials, and tribulations of the wealthy Collins family of Collinsport, Maine, where a number of supernatural occurrences take place. It also features ghosts, werewolves, zombies, man-made monsters, witches, warlocks, time travel, parallel universe and of course, Barnabas Collins(The Vampire). But before all the Insanity would begin, the story started off as a simple revenge plot filled with twist and turns, that slowly leads to the horror that comes later. This is the complete series from beginning to end.

I have such vivid memories of watching Dark Shadows in my younger days.It scared me, thrilled me and kept me on the edge of my seat. All these years later I'm happy to see it on Internet Archive.

Far too many of these videos don't play smoothly. I don't get that problem with other videos I watch on IA, and I have watched quite a lot.

I am old school! I ran home from school EVERY FREAKING DAY TO WATCH "DARK SHADOWS"! Don Curtis created a groundbreaking show. Don Curtis was the master of the "Made For TV" thrillers of the 1960's & 1970's! He gave us so many thrills, chills & screams back in the day of only having 3 channels to choose from.
"Dark Shadows" was a cultural phenomenon, although going from Vampires to Witches to Mad Scientist to Werewolf began to take it's toll on the audience. But, it was always Barnabas Collins played by the late great Johnathan Frick that won the hearts of children, teens & adults alike.
There has never been a show like "Dark Shadows" before or since. Sure, there was cheese....A LOT OF CHEESE, moving unstable scenery & quite often a shot of the boom mix made it's episodic appearance. But, that was all part of the charm that made up the greatest soap opera in television history.
And, I was lucky enough to see it during its original broadcast.

I'm looking forward to the remake of this great classic that is currently in development. This series was so great and so well written, no one has attempted to remake it for years. I actually wish they would keep the original script and story and just modernize the graphic effects. I can only imagine it has to be a challenge to bring together a cast that has the same fluidness and spark as the original cast. Instead of a remake, I would love to see just a modernization of this original script.

This is one of the best soap operas out there and I'm so glad it was saved unlike so many soap operas that were lost during that time period.
I grew up watching this in reruns on the SciFi channel.

I remember running home from school each day to watch this soap opera.
A note about the series. The first 130+ episodes are pretty much a standard soap opera. No supernatural events begin until around episode 130 with the phoenix.
The most popular episodes were with the insertion of Barnabas Collins, vampire. Barnabas is not released from his coffin until episode 211 when Willie releases him.
So if you get bored with the first 200 episodes, you know when things pick up.

Subject: aspect ratio??
not sure why but inspecting s01e01, for some reason the video in this is cropped, and stretch slightly. comparing frames from this vs the dvd release, the video on this upload has been vertically stretched by about 5% or so, and then a crop was applied to cut the top, bottom, and a bit of both sides off to fit a 1.33 par. and then the video was encoded in 1080p with forced pillarboxing black bars on both sides.

I am a Dark Shadows veteran fan!!!
I was among the legions of kids who ran home to watch the show after school from 1966-71. I bought the novels, comics, trading cards, model kits, collected the newspaper strip, and got my father to take me to see "House of Dark Shadows." I bought the music--all the volumes on vinyl records and compact discs.
I stayed up late to watch the Dan Curtis classic horror adaptations on ABC in the early 1970s and watched the Kolchak TV movies and series.
I actually visited Seaview Terrace--the real Collinwood--in 1997. I subscribed to the "World of Dark Shadows" fanzine, went to see "Arsenic and Old Lace" (with Jonathan Frid as Jonathan Brewster--and got his autograph on my novelization of "House of Dark Shadows.") I picketed the local NBC affiliate to prevent the cancellation of the 1991 revival series (which I am happy to see in the above link!) I have the entire Dark Shadows canon on DVD.
I thank you heartily for this link!
I recommend the ultimate online Dark Shadows site: The Collinsport Historical Society which is a true wonder: www.collinsporthistoricalsociety.com Thank you again!!! Peace! The Count
