moving on, nearby to belle isle. i'm sure some of you have encountered bell isle before. these were the big confederate prisons. i cannot resist putting this in my show, even though it is 1860 three. -- 1863. this is a wartime image of richmond. it drives me crazy. they photographer climbed this hill. and got an amazing view. but look in the background. this is downtown. downtown richmond. it is going to burn. easy bit in the background. his negatives do not survive. cannot blow this thing up. i can just pick things out in the hazy mist. there is the two building flour mill. on the right, the confederate capital. it is actually acting as the capitol. you can see the laboratory and the railroad ridge, long before it turned to cinders. in 1865, another photographer got up there. took almost the exact same to view. two years later. you can see the gun overlooking the camp. all the downtown we just described. over here, right there, that is all that is left of the mammoth flour mills. the state capitol overlooking the city of ruin. the bridge is gone. photographers found bell
