host: talking about the opening day of the 119th congress. joining uss molly reynolds, the senior studies fellow and also jason dick. happy new year to both of you. what are the scenarios for mike johnson today? guest: this could be much ado about nothing and we could get the first balanced election of the speaker. there is an old saying that democrats have to fall in love and republicans have to fall in line. we can see this happen with republicans. that is the ideal scenario probably from mike johnson's perspective. and then there is the extreme other side is that we could go 15 rounds or more as we did with kevin mccarthy two years ago and it would take that long and several days because we need a majority of those present and voting. we don't know exactly how many people may show up. there is always a little bit of a variable. somebody might get sick and somebody who said they won't take their seat will show up. but it could take a little while. then there is the scenario of may be some of mike johnson's detractors or members who want to show him th

patrick mchenry, other institutionalists who made the choice to leave and will not be joining us for the 119th congresse incentives. how it's all possible to find someone across the aisle who cares about an issue and seek the same type of solutions that you do. but how vulnerable that could be if you are in a swing district or in even a safe gop district collaborating on something speeding up passport remodeled time. something that is so not a person to person issue if anyone in your district needs to travel internationally that would be a benefit for them. just the idea that you sat down and took the meetings with someone across the aisle could be enough to be targeted. like gabe said, hiding your bipartisan accomplishments is something i've seen emerge. >> i do think it's so unfortunate if you wind back to the advent of social media i do think ÃÃthere was such promise of how it could bring legislating out into the open and improve transparency. i think catherine is right the videos and generally it's gonna be videos shouting ÃÃthe videos explaining why you voted yes for the bill or this is what i got

this is the third week we are in the 119th congress and third week no bill is before us to lower costs for americans. before us instead is a political attempt to divide us as a nation, stigmatizing some kids so some adults can get maga merit badges. the republican governor of utah veto a similar piece of legislation avenue shared of the 75,000 students in high school sports in utah, only four were trans, and only one a girl playing sports. he also mentioned the very real 86% of transkids reporting suicidallity due to things like adults stigmatizing kids for political gain. instead today the proposed solution is in search of a problem suggests we ban girls from sports with with some sort of process to determine who is a girl. does this mean hiring potential predators to peek at the private parts of kids in locker rooms? that sounds like an actual problem to me. creating a solution to a nonexistent problem by creating a problem instead of lowering costs for americans is a sign of an ineffective congressional majority at best. i urge a no vote. i yield back. the speaker pro tempore: the g
