i was a student at city college in the '80s. i did my student teaching there as a masters student at s.f. state. i'll be working with two students from the masters program in the tsaw program at sf state. so, that's important. they are really fearful of what could happen in the next year with the special trustee because we feel like civic center campus might be vulnerable to being closed and i would really like to advocate that we need to keep the vic i can center campus open. i was speaking with edgar torres who is the chair of latino studies department and he noted that as the mission becomes more gentrified, a lot of immigrants are moving to the tenderloin ~ and we really need to be able to serve that population. i also just want to make the point that ovhe

city college is a staple of education within the city. we don't only want to see city college saved. we want to see city college improved. we want to see city college addressing some of the historic issues of racial inequity, the achievement gap for students of color, especially african-american students, the amount of time that it takes students to graduate when they get into city college. so, we were really would like to see you take leadership in bringing the community together to build more support around saving city college, while most definitely including the fact we need to strive to improve the situations at city college that aren't working for students to make them successful. there's a lot of pressure to have a narrative that doesn't include equity and i want to most definitely make sure that as we continue to speak about this that we talk about equity. we put students at the center of the conversation and really make sure that it's guided by what's going to make sure students get the most out of their education at city college.

i have a quick side question. is college really worth it for those that are aspiring entrepreneurs or business owner's? in other words if you know what your career is going to be any trade environment or a high-tech business is college really worth it statistically speaking? >> i think that is one of the great financial calculations of becoming an entreprenentrepren eur. am i going to forego this experience to do that one? life is often the best teacher of those things and i think it's absolutely true when it comes to starting a business and building up a business and things like that. you look at steve jobs mark brook and bill gates. there was no value add it for them of college but i'm sure there are thousands of individuals across the country who has said the same thing about themselves and have the next big idea and it didn't pan out. so in one sense college absolutely might be a great fallback if your idea doesn't work out and you can be a computer program -- computer pro-grammar for google googler apple or whatever and
