john: he lost his faith for a while. on one hand, one of john kennedy's friends once asked him how he rectifies how you treat your wife with religion? you say your prayers that night and go to church. jfk said, you don't want to lose total touch because if you do and something awful happens, you have lost the console and power of religion. so you do not want to put yourself in that spot. at the time when john and robert and joe jr. and kathleen had all died violent deaths, ted kennedy lost that faith. it was not until the end of his life when he seemed to regain it and it became important again. he said my counseling was walking beaches and getting in a sailboat and battling the waves. susan: but this was also a time of fast cars, women, lots of alcohol. why did the press not report it? john: eventually they did. during chappaquiddick, there would start to be hints in time magazine about his life. but it was not really until chappaquiddick on watergate were the big shocking events. it was covered up like boys will be boys

to people were killed when a tornado struck north of montgomery. >> john: mississippi, floodwaters washed away the middle portion of a bridge. max gordon is live in bassfield, mississippi with the latest on the storms. how are folks there? did they fare all right? >> yeah, folks here in bassfield said this is a pretty scary situation. the severe weather rolled in late yesterday afternoon and they believed a tornado caused the destruction here. we see this shed that's been crumpled up, seen trees snapped in half. unfortunately, bassfield is no stranger to tornadoes. back in 2020, ef-4 hit this county, after severe weather across the south, lightning lighting the sky and trains of storms spawning twisters from tuesday afternoon and into the night. more than 30 reports of damaging winds, reports of hail the size of golf balls and limes and 25, at least, reports of tornadoes. majority of the tornadoes were reported in mississippi and alabama. montgomery county emergency management director confirmed two people in alabama died after a tornado ripped through the area in the early morning hours.
