i agree with a.b.ulative effect of very specific arguments against trump, that he's not conservative, and even more than that, that he's not authentic, that you can't trust him. he'll negotiate on deportation of illegal immigrants, which has been such an important issue for him, that he'll backtrack on issues like forcing the military to torture, even if it's against the law, then he backtracked on that, so you can't really trust where the guy is coming from. >> john kasich did the show friday and said he would be excited of the notion of a brokered convention. we were talking about the debate the night before. and also interestingly, california, former california governor schwarzenegger officially endorsing him. so he's still getting these high-profile endorsements. realistic for john kasich here? >> i think you laid it out, i think he could win ohio, he could start to build his delegate take and then he could try to keep trump from going over the top. so let's assume that you've got cruz, who's on th

also, a.b. stoddard, associate editor of the hill.cal commentator amanda carpenter who used to serve as communications director for senator cruz. happy friday. a.b., let me begin you with here on this whole notion of the unity ticket. at this the meeting behind closed doors, apparently this unit ticket would be ted cruz and john kasich. what is the logic of how these two could actually stop trump? >> well, look, i don't think that they can win more delegates than donald trump going forward, but they might be able to stop him from reaching 1,237 before the convention. they're already in a kind of unity ticket because they're not criticizing each other. you hear cruz say he's the only one who can stop trump but they're not attacking each other because they know they're better off with each other in the race. they'll amass more delegates combined than if one of them it was try to go against trump and they'll make it more possible that he's stopped before the convention. but both of them have only one path and that is contested convention

a.b. stoddard covers the election as an editor and columnist for "the hill" newspaper.elcome to the program. ddard: thank you for having it. we are --fernando: we are days away. how do you think things are shaping up? ms. stoddard: rubio's polling well. john kasich is a new threat. there is a possibility that could be a contested convention. at other surprise could be on the democratic side if a michigan electorate appears in ohio -- the same kind of appeal for senator sanders among democratic voters with a strong anti-trade message. fernando: do you think marco rubio is still viable in some scenarios? ms. stoddard: i think marco rubio is looking really damaged in the polling in florida. most of the polls -- one poll had an eight points behind donald trump. another, 20, 20 3 -- 18. that looks like a tough climb. i do not know if he is going to get out. his campaign says he is going to stay young until florida. sometimes -- they in until florida. sometimes it sounds like he will stay in after florida. there is a lot of pressure to stop donald trump and also stop ted cruz

. >> so let's begin with some simple math with my two friends here, a.b.iate editor at the hill, and cnn political director david chalian. chalian, to you first, you heard what cruz was saying kasich saying, with regard to those delegates. who's right? >> they don't disagree, they're both right in what they're saying. it is true that john kasich would need more than 100% of the delegates remaining in order to become the nominee outright before the convention, getting to that magic number of 1,237, 50% plus one, a true majority, but as kasich stated if kasich wins ohio, it is quite possible this thing goes on potentially as a three-man race if rubio ends up getting out, if he does indeed lose florida. and nobody gets to 1,237 before the convention and it goes to a contested convention. what cruz and kasich are saying are actually not at odds with each other, they're just try to push their best spin forward to win votes tomorrow. >> a.b., let's go down a couple different narratives. what happens if john kasich were to win his home state of ohio tomorrow? the

a.b. is right. of the race, and rubio is not getting out of the race. ohio and florida, they are going to once and for all whether they are a factor in the race or whether they are done. >> enthusiasm seem super strong. a.b., will this translate into a general election for republicans? >> what's so interesting about last night is that the more than double turnout in kansas actually was against donald trump. he lost to cruz by 25 points. it wasn't even close. people turned out for ted cruz. not for donald trump and they turned out in bigger numbers. in most of these cases, we're seeing donald trump turn out new voters. obviously that helps anybody in a general election. should he become the nominee, he is a real threat to hillary clinton because he has his own new voters. that's how you win at the numbers game. >> there you go. david, donald trump is a polarizing figure. people who love him, absolutely love him. they don't care what he says. they support him no matter what. then you have republicans
