i would like to thank aaron peskin who has a leader on this legislation. under that legislation any company operating shared powered scooters in san francisco must have a permit from the sfmta as of june 4 to have their scooters parked on sidewalks or any public space. that means any scooter company operating is required to mover e it's scooters by june 4. only those issued permits may be able to continue. san francisco supports transportation innovation but it can't come at the price of privacy, accessible, and safety. this permit program strikes the right balance. i would like to introduce ed russ kin to talk more about the new permit program. >> thank you. i want to thank the city attorney for his leadership and the great support of his staff as we have been developing the legislation that required the permits the legislation by the board of directors to establish the permit program and their support for us in developing the application itself. as the city's transportation department we are excited about the prospect that these powered scooters could br

a swamp in other parts and the drainage made a lot of sense with the help of rec and park and aaron peskin getting the funding for that. it makes all the sense to the community that i know that we also address the need and the hardscape, what i call the hardscape. if you go down there now, it is a hodgepodge of -- i don't know if anybody live there is or goes through there, and the way it's put together. and it's going to damage. the people we have reached out in the community, my friend mark and joan, have reacted as we expected a lot of people are going to react when we shut it down. but the overall when you explain to them what is going on, they understand that these improvements are going to be for the future of the park, and are very valuable, and it is really unfortunate we have to shut it down and would be great if we could phase it and levi and other cans figure out how to phase it, perfect, but overall, the community i talk to, the friends support what we are doing. it seems to make the most sense. shi shut it down and do all three things at once and keep the preservation and that

the other issue is what aaron pesk peskin raised, and that is privacy. i saw the response by zuckerberg to senator hatch, how do you make your money, and he had to tell them, by selling ads. well, those ads go to people, and the reason they use ads is because you can show a marketing demographic. i urge you to think about how is the best way to protect the privacy of operators, even though i think they're mostly irresponsible, for the most part, the ones that i've encountered on sidewalks. but how do we protect their identity and their privacy, because this is a growing problem that not only zuckerberg and others are trying to deal with, but we should be sensitive to, as well. thank you, mr. chair. >> it's my understanding that one of the things you will consider when issuing a permit is what considerations made concerning privacy policies and when they're involved in data escaping or whether they're engaging their investors. >> so what i've challenged our staff to do is to be as strong as we can in this realm, and i had a direct conversation with a supe
