president abbas stood with the president in front of the palestinian flag.rael, it was somewhat of a victory. but the question is what will change on the ground and whether the symbolism will lead to any progress on the process. there i think many are sceptical. he was talking about mr trump's courage, great negotiating ability and he says now they have hope. part of the problem surely is that president abbas is not popular at home. he is facing quite a lot of pressure at home. he is elderly and has an opposition figure in an israeli prison who has been i think basically supporting or needing to protest on the west bank. so we are seeing him take a lot of heat within the palestinian public arena but not delivering. many efforts over the yea rs delivering. many efforts over the years with few results. this was important for him in that sense but if there is no follow—up or any deliverable it will be really hard to see him sustain himself domestically. president trump's son—in—law and of course the diplomat who he said to be america's representative in israel
