abby: it is both. compare ourselves to china, it is a little bit apples to oranges because as a developing economy, you would expect them to be spending more on infrastructure as a percentage of gdp. but we are falling behind our own record. if you look just at federal investment in infrastructure, it is now about 2.5% of the federal budget. a couple of decades ago it was 5%. if we compare ourselves to other developed economies, that is where i am really concerned. because what we see is other nations have a very specific policy plan in place where they believe keeping their infrastructure up to snuff and ready for that when he first century industries is really a priority, and we have not done that in the united states. other countries ranging from canada, australia, france and so on really have much more significant direction not just from the national government, but also from their local government in this regard. alix: and we see it all the time. even though colonial pipeline was ransomware, that

what does the slate of candidates tell you abby. voters looking this more nationally in terms of the complexion of the house and who has the balance of power or other more local issues more important to folks who are voting here? >> well, i think all local politics is nationalized now. it's become such a part of the american bloodstream. that said, there's about 50 different proxy wars going on in the republican party. rick carry has endorsed who is not the trump candidate who is jake elzey. he is a very charismatic candidate. i think it's just probably too few votes and too many candidates to really draw any major conclusions from this. >> do you get the sense, abby, that texans want their politics to have this much of a national impact? i mean, texas is a gigantic state with a lot of very interesting stuff going on of its own that we don't pay a lot of attention to. dallas is also having an election. they're electing city council. and dallas someone of the biggest cities in the country. i always worry about making races too nation

my name is abby edens. i'm director of education at the national world war ii museum and our program this evening is an observance of international holocaust remembrance day. this program is sponsored by toby philanthropy and as part of the toby family holocaust program at the national world war ii museum. tonight i am honored to introduce our speaker mr. steven hess steven and his twin sister marion were born less than a minute apart on january 14th, 1938 and amsterdam holland. they were the children of german jewish refugees who had fled the nazis following the invasion an occupation that has family had taken was taken to the dutch transit camp of westerbourg before being sent to american belson. they are among the fewer than 5% of jews deported from holland and still live at war's end and they are among the few twins who survived the concentration camps and at this point possibly the last so tonight, mr. hess will be discussing he and his family's experience during world war ii and healthy survived again
