it seems supportive both of the pilot and king abdullah.is your read of the complexities of the reaction to this situation in jordan? >> well, as i think laith said earlier, the situation inside jordan, as you've described it, was complex and tense for the government because there was a lot of criticism that the government was not doing enough to move forward with the exchange of rishawi for this pilot and there grew a lot of antipathy within jordan about the cost of allies with the united states and others were. that jordan has absorbed into it is country many of the refugees from syria and iraq over the years and received very little, on a relative basis, aid from the rest of the world. at least not on par with the burden that jordan has been carrying and those stress signs were showing. and so there was a fear in washington, talked about just yesterday in meetings that i was participating in that if this pilot had been alive, if he had been executed, if they had not made the trade, this might have exploded inside jordan, might have becom

king abdullah does not run for re-election.e does have to be careful about the support among the people. so how would that relate to the position in the united states? >> i think jordan and king hussein and fundamentally the kind of instability issues you're talking about, the way that the king makes things move is dealing with as in many of these governments, balancing positions to the various tribes and trying to sort of modernize their government and move it forward in a way that their people feel that they are getting a fair shake from the political system. jordan has long had a problem and, frankly, many think a worsening problem in corruption and the question about competence of government and i think that the king has not made as much headway on those issues as many would like. but when it comes to the partnership and alliance with the united states i think that jordan for a long time and in part because it along with egypt, has had peace with israel and is unique in the region. they've also been exposed to the modernity

king abdullah is supposed to meet with members of the senate foreign relations committee.at the pilot was allegedly killed by members of isis, we're getting in new images of that pilot. he was reportedly killed at the hands of isis, still working to confirm all these details right now. but as you can see right here he is wearing an orange jump suit, he was put in a cage before he was brutally murdered before cameras and he was burned to death. isis terrorists releasing a video that shows that very thing. the 26-year-old was captured back in december when his plane went down in syria. we're told that he was the first pilot from the u.s.-led coalition to have been captured. king abdullah may speak before cameras, we will keep an eye on that throughout the hour he may according to catherine herridge, head on back to jordan to harvedndle the crisis there. >>> a selfie may have contributed to a deadly plane crash. the pilot and his passenger, and here's the pilot right here were killed when their small plane went down in colorado last may. now federal investigators have release

you did meet with king abdullah.g abdullah, a very determined man whose country has been devastated by the burning alive of their pilot. what was your impression? >> it's not the first time i met the king. i think he's a great leader for his country and certainly has great concern for his people. he does ask for help. and it's ironic that jordan is now leading the fight against isis. and there's a lot that we can do as a country particularly this administration. provide ammunition fuel missiles. and i agree with the king that this is primarily a war with an islam itself. it is a 1,400-plus war that's going on for years. but the u.s. needs to show leadership and resolve. everyone is looking at this administration for leadership. and it is going to take unfortunately, troops on the ground. and those troops in the form of providing logistics, medical supplies food ammunition, special forces to direct our air power and, most of all, commitment because right now our allies don't trust us and our enemies don't fear us. >>
