abe has been out of the loop.the foreign minister of china and japan yesterday, presumably there was some briefing into the background. clearly, everybody needs china's help to bring north korea to the negotiating table. china is the enabler, the one country with the strongest economic ties to north korea. unless it is on board, it does not seem like anything will happen. and then there is the russian factor. russia has reached out to north korea. north koreans are known to be resentful of pressure from beijing. they feel threatened by the united states-south korean alliance. russia has interjected itself into this interesting mix of players. so, will we have a return to six party talks, or something like that? this remains to be seen. rishaad: jeff, certainly has invited perhaps kim to come along, and kim perhaps desperate to go because engines were very biting and he needed a lifting of those. beijing must have offered him something because he did look like an errant schoolboy coming to see the principal.
