storm chasers captured several storms in abilene. at least 20 homes were dammed or destroyed in dickinson county. and check out how close storm chasers got to this tornado in abilene. you can see a videographer in the thick of things. fortunately, there were no injuries reported from this latest outbreak. let's get the latest on this storm now. bill karins is here. he's been watching it all. >> that was a scary one. >> it has been a big one. in talking to you, you say this could be connected? >> this was a long track tornado. this was on the ground -- all those pictures you saw, were mostly the same tornado in the different stages. it was on the ground more maybe half an hour last night. this is at 7:00 p.m. right there. that's the hook echo on the super cell thunderstorm. there's abilene. we showed you the pictures right near there. this is when the storm was at its peak. right here is when the tornado crossed interstate 70. south of junction city, about 1,000 feet of railroad tracks were torn apart. so the main railroad line across

we had a tornado touchdown northeast of our occasion in abilene, kansas. that tornado will be evaluated today. the strength to confirm the tornado. the threat in kansas continues yet again today. stage 4 if not made on that. they pummelled the area bringing in threats of tornadoes for more damaging winds and large hail. the threat today was lower than it was yesterday for severe weather. i want to point out on wednesday the threat was also relatively lower when you compare yesterday's severe threat out here across portions of kansas. we saw the massive ef 4 tornado rip through the area. we will have the way to get weather warnings across kansas, oklahoma extending through texas through the day today and portions of the midwest as the storm system continues to march eastward. flash flooding will be a concern in many areas from days of heavy rain reported in many areas. flooding another concern out there. >> i am sure residents in that region are thankful you are a hands on meteorologist. thank you. six minutes after the hour donald trump now has the magic n

we are just north of abilene, kansas.ally ripped through this area leaving behind all kinds of heartbreaking scenes. you can see the damage behind me very extensive. some of these things really unrecognizable. we have been driving around throughout the morning doing a damage survey and setting up our live shot this morning. and again, just unrecognizable scenes. we have seen cars that appear to be destroyed. power lines on the ground, trees down, and many roads continue to be blocked because of the trees that are blocking the roads out there. so again, the damage out here, the scene still very raw and a lot of pieces to be picked up by the residences across kansas. like you mentioned, this torn was on the ground for a very long time. so the path of damage is extensive and we'll continue to bring you images throughout the day. unfortunately, we expect another round of severe weather and potentially a greater one today anywhere from texas up into parts of kansas, nebraska, even extending into portions of iowa. the threat fo

we're a few miles north of abilene, kansas, in the rural part of town, and the tornado spared the towne and also spared another town to the east of here, chapman, kansas. so it still caused significant damage across surrounding areas, and as you can see behind me, we have complete destruction of what appears to have been a home. and, i mean, this tornado was so violent that it tore apart what looks to be concrete blocks. you have brick. this tornado actually brought down this entire structure, and like you mentioned, it was estimated to be about a half mile wide at times. and there are reports that it stayed on the ground for as much as 23 miles. so a very dangerous situation out here yesterday and, unfortunately, the forecast calls for more extreme weather today as well. but i want to pan farther off across the road here as well so you can take a look at just how much of a close call this particular home took here. the roof did suffer some extensive damage, a shed just behind it completely destroyed by this tornado. so, again, it was a very violent situation with this storm ripping th

gabe gutierrez is live in abilene, kansas, where a massive tornado touched down there.an incredible scene of devastation behind you. tell us about the impact and what you're expecting today. >> hi there, kristen. the severe weather threat extends all the way from the upper midwest down to texas today. the threat for tornados is considerably less, though, than it was yesterday. as you mentioned, this area is still devastated. there were heavy rains here overnight as they continued to clean up from that massive ef-4 tornado that roared through here late wednesday, but the area that got the biggest downpour overnight, that was texas. and for many there, it was a miserable start to the holiday weekend. from terrifying tornados to devastating flooding, yet another round of severe storms is ravaging the country. overnight near houston, relentless rain prompting water rescues. >> from the time we turned around, my -- my car was underwater. >> this morning bryan, texas, in shock after this tornado roared through. >> i was scared for my life. you just kind of -- you know, 30 sec
