when i was a young senator, recognized 29, academies to accept women. and all the academies. i was out, one of the great honors as vice president, i get to do the president, i rotate commencement so i have done every academy and going back this year, and doing west point. i was out of the air force academy two years ago, and they have an outfit, what do you call those guys? where are you? he left, he is gone. they have the thunderbirds and the blue angels. guess what? it takes enormous skill. they wanted to meet me at the air force academy because they do a flyover at graduation the night before. two of the pilots are women. my generic point is we have got to change attitude in the military for a whole range of reasons not the least of which is women are carrying a significant portion of the burden in protecting the security of our country so folks, these are real champions, these are people i am honored to stand with. i hope you feel that way and that is what it is on us is about. it means students, faculty, coaches, college presidents, your dean's, law enforcement community

we did start april 4 what we call a bump up academy. it is sthose we hired as h 31 emt 3 to level 2. we have 20 members going through that training which is approximately 3 weeks. we hope to do the same at the ends of may with 24 members of the department that will take advajt of that promotional opportunity. april 25 we made conditional aurfbest officer to 22 hires. like to acknowledge assistant deputy chief myers has done a great job screening candidates as well as [inaudible] and for processing all the candidates. that will be a 6 week academy for h 3 level 1 class. we are keeping busy with hiring. we also are planning in may 10 titatively may 9th bring in hopefully at least 30, we are interviewing about 45 people to take part in a h 8 process which is perdeem paramedic hiring to grow that rank to be able to provide support in times of surge capacity and so forth. that covers the academy. i'm not covering the budget because that is the separate item mr. corso cover. there was a meeting march 28 where we reviewed the draft put togethe
