what is ac trait planning to do in this case? >> reporter: we just spoke in with the ac transit spokesperson and he said the board won't decide whether to appeal this decision until their already-scheduled board meeting. now, they met for an hour and a half yesterday but they didn't come to a decision about the appeal and they will wait until the board meeting on the 1th -- 18th. we do have ac transit spokes men -- spokesmen looking into delays. 15% to 20% of drivers have been calling in sick daily since the imposed contract became effective. the agency said they needed the contract in place to save nearly $16 million in order to close a more than $50 million budget deficit. the anticipation imposed a contract on its employees when talks broke down between the two sides. a judge ruled the matter would -- would have to go into arbitration in order to push both sides to an agreement. but yesterday, an alameda county superior court judge ruled in favor of lifting that imposed contract on the ac transit workers. ac transit has until

dispute between ac transit and its union. the union's contract ended june 30th and after three months of negotiating talks ended as soon as the union forced arbitration, ac transit decided to impose a contract the da after arbitration was made which changed schedules for some of the 1100 drivers within this system. arbitration is expected to begin later this month but the union has since taken its case to the alameda county superior court in order to get a judge to grant an injunction to lift the newly imposed contract and subsequent work schedule. ac transit says they will appeal if the judges decides to lift 30 new contract. the agency will be forced to layoff workers and reduce weekend service. right now the union denies union activity in the form of sickouts but riders have dealt with delays over the past three weeks because up to 20% of drivers have been call in in sick since the new contract became effective. bus drivers on the street on the other hand just hope riders know drivers only want what is fair. >> we don't wa

as far as alternates, i have to say ace.t's an 18-wheeler big rig and it will take a while to upright it. they are calling our sweeper crews and heavy duty tow trucks to upright the big rig. so ace or maybe first street might be a good alternate? delays begin around that exited. drive times, 32 minutes westbound 580 out of the altamont pass. nearly 20-minute delays and it's only 5:18:00 a.m. and it sounds like it may be out there for a while. tracking a new hotspot, westbound 80 at treasure island on the upper deck of the bay bridge, we are not seeing any major delays with this yet. most of the slowdowns are just right there on the span. there was an overturned pickup truck and right now, two left lanes are blocked. sounds like bridge tow crews are heading out now. it may be a tow crew right there off to the side. we saw one kind of moving its way out of the toll plaza, heading in that direction. so no delay so far as you approach the pay gates, most of the slow traffic again just right there as you approach the accident. bu

this decision has to do with a contract that was imposed on ac transit bus drivers. we have been speaking with riders this morning, they are hoping whatever happens it will ease the delays they've been dealing with for almost two weeks now. today a judge will decide on the union's request for an injunction preventing the transit agency from continuing to impose a contract at least until an arbitrator can decide this whole dispute. ac transit imposed a contract when negotiations failed in mid-july, and since then about 20% of their drivers are not showing up each day. the union says that number is really too high. we spoke with one rider this morning who says he just wants to see it over and he doesn't have a lot of sympathy. >> because at least they got a job. you know, i think they just need to sit there and come to an agreement and just get on to wor work. >> it's getting old? >> yes. they got a job. i mean, can't sit there and ask for more than what the economy can give you. >> reporter: now, the union for its part says there really is no sick-outgoi going on, and

this is a contract dispute between ac transit and its union. the union's contract expired june 30th and after three months of negotiating the union went to a judge, looking to force both sides into arbitration. ac transit decided to impose a contract, which took effect july 18th. now that brings us to today, august 2nd. for several weeks as the union waits for a judge to decide whether or not to lift the newly imposed contract some bus drivers have called in sick. up to 20% each day since the new contract has been put into place. we spoke to a bus operator this morning. here is what she had to say about this. >>> now we do understand as i mentioned we spoke to a bus driver and we don't have -- actually i have been told that we can listen to that bus driver right now. let's listen to what she has to say about this dispute. >> i am actually -- [ inaudible ] >> -- but i am actually you know come to work every day and -- and just you know adapt to what we have been given and hopefully the judge will make a decision in our favor, ruling in our favor
