the aclu and others are suing over the rule. another directive requires asylum applicants to make their appointments on a customs and border patrol app. they say raises serious concerns over privacy. at the san ysidro border crossing in california, hundreds of asylum seekers have been sleeping on the ground under trash bags and foil blankets, with many reporting they've not eaten in days. this is hashmatullah habibi, an asylum seeker from afghanistan who said thursday he and his family have nowhere else to go. >> i am just hoping and praying today they let us in. if they don't, my future and my family's future is in doubt because we escaped from a darker place. we came here for a better life. if they don't take us in, the situation will be more for us because we cannot go back and we cannot come in so it is like a dire situation. amy: u.s. customs and border protection has detained some 28,000 migrants at its border facilities in recent days. meanwhile, the number of asylum seekers attempting to cross into the united states has

california's prison system is facing a new lawsuit by the aclu. >> alleging racist practices against incarcerated people. the lawsuit claims certain people are singled out based on their perceived race. the aclu says corrections officials contact ice agents to refer incarcerated people who appear, quote, foreign born the agency claims people are flagged and placed on immigration holds even if they're u.s. citizens or lawful residents. the department of corrections says it's reviewing that lawsuit. >> nevada and california lawmakers want a rail line connecting la to vegas and now they're trying to get the biden administration to fast track funding for the project. the company bright line wants to build it and is asking for 3 and a quarter billion dollars in federal funds. the project's total cost is 10 billion dollars. everything else would be privately financed. >> for your money tonight, beautiful weather miles of coastline and no shortage of things to do. it's no surprise homes here in california don't come cheap. last month, a median single-family home cost just less than $800,000

that's all pushed back almost immediately from the aclu, lambda legal and other organizations and alsod for a temporary restraining order from a judge, which was granted. however, now with the attorney general withdrawing his emergency ruling, their focus is no longer on that but on what moves the state legislature has made as well which also take a look at gender affirming care as well. geoff: there are two bills the i understand it. tell us about them and the prospects of those pieces of legislation. gabrielle: i first want to note that the missouri governor mike parson made it clear this year that if those bills did not pass that he would call in a special session. so those bills did pass at the very end of the legislative session. one of them restricts trans athletes's participation in sports not only in the lower grades but i believe also college. the second bill also takes the aim at gender affirming care, but specifically for minors. now, advocates tell me that though the bills that the legislature have passed may not be as extreme as what the attorney general was trying to do,
