it is hard to say it is ahead of the curve when it comes to activities, because we are such an active city. this department is trying. there were many years when soccer was not popular. i'm sure it was popular with some communities, but was not a mainstream sport, and here we a are now catching up and it is a hard position. we tried renovating the beach chalet fields in 1998 and the fields did not take. if we wanted to keep the natural grass, the amount of resources are disproportionate to the amount that we could devote to other services and fields and parks and our department. it would not work. we're very lucky to have the field foundation give us this

i support the coordination of the urban agricultural activities across the city. another is about a half a million dollars that get spent in various departments for this area. however, i will be voting against this, probably in the minority. i want to explain why. the areas that concern me are not necessarily the intent, but some of the things it would obligate us to. it does obligate us to at least one full-time staff position. i am not sure i think that is justified at this time. second, it creates a one-stop shop in terms of a goal. it puts a goal of the least 10 new locations of urban agriculture to be completed by january 1. i am not sure what the plans are or whether the funding sources are there to create it. in addition, part of the goals specify which would open garden resource centers in their herds across the city. we have issues as relates to even run our existing recreation and parks services, among other things. it is unclear to me where we would find the funding to do some of the goals put out there. i do not want to vote for something that i am not

may recognize me because i come and talk in front of you from time to time about the active recreation space in the city and i can see some smiles. this is another discussion about active recreation space, but i have two children who are soccer players in the city. and as a perspective you may not know about, when they play on teams in the city, there is not enough practice space. you have to apply with park and recreation to even get practice space. sometimes my son has practice space at one field and they get center field, someone else has right field. there is never enough recreation fields in the city. but when you are able to put turf on these fields you are able to provide something that they can play on so much more time than they can now. when we play at marina green, if there is a rain storm, there's three days none of the kids can play. we go out to geneva where there is already the astroturf fields. i'm p a soccer you really want to exercise and i see people of all ages played this wonderful game. this is an amazing game to play. i would encourage you to vote for something that gives us more
