adam housley has the latest on the search live from riverside with more. adam?reporter: yeah, jenna this is the second crime scene here in riverside, california. i will step away to give you a live look. we're basically a block away from where two officers were ambushed. officers from the riverside police are out. they have guns in hand and fingering on the trigger at this intersection and for that matter all around this area. as we got off the freeway, the 91 freeway in inland empire in southern california, an hour east of los angeles you see unmarked police officers, officers in tactical gear, all around this area as the shooting again took place here early this morning. we'll start with the first crime scene which was in corona, california, about 15 miles to our south. late last night to early this morning, they haven't given us the exact time, it is believed, christopher dorner, the suspect ambushed two officers from l.a.p.d.. they were providing security for people who might be at threat for a shooting that happened in irvine. we'll get to that in a moment.

adam housley has been monitoring the trial. why did the lawyers let her testify? >> well, shepard, that's a question a lot of people in the legal community are asking. it may just be a legal hail mary that the defense team thought things weren't going their way with the jury. they watched the jury closely as a lot of these details come out. one of the problems that the defense has been having has been the ability for the prosecution to show there are a number of different stories and excuses given by the defendant over the course of this trial about why she killed her boyfriend. now, why she allegedly killed her boyfriend i should say. that has really made the defense team come to the point where they put her on the stand and are allowing her to basically lay out her life in front of this jury instance by instance in some cases, shepard, too graphic for television. >> shepard: talking about a lot of abuse in her life and the mother just sitting over there not even looking at her. when is the prosecution going to get its turn? >> everybody is waiting for that to ha

fox news correspondent adam housley is live in riverside, california with the latest. adam. >> yeah, this is the crime scene unfortunately this morning, two officers about a block from here was shot by christopher dorner. one was killed and the other in very serious condition. from that point on however, his truck was found burned out in big bear, a 60 mile or so, the authorities up there have been keeping in contact with us. what they tell us at this hour, first of all shall the storm is coming in there and the temperatures have dropped down into the 20's and expected the low 20's, it's cold up there, it's dark and the fog is coming in, all of those things make this search more tedious, about 130 officers going door-to-door in an area not far from where that truck was found and they'll expand that search out and what i asked them, do you believe he's still there? they say there's no reason to expect he has left the area, but have no reason to believe he hasn't found a house. there are homes up there, and go up there on the weekend at that type of thing and look through

adam housley with more in los angeles. what else are we hearing here adam about this crash?l, we got the bus driver's name. perez, very serious condition. he has maintained and also the tour company maintains that it was a brake issue. but we do have some new video that's just come into us because the roadway is still closed at this hour. they have finally been able to put that bus up on the back of a tow truck. they are taking it away. took longer time than they expected. inspectors could not get on board. mtsb. could not get on board. once they finally did board that bus, shepard. the death toll has gone down from 8 to 7. earlier today they thought it might go up once they got on the bus but again it's gone down from 8 killed to seven. 17 still in the hospital at this hour, shepard. five of those in are in critical condition. >> what's the safety record of that bus company. >> this bus has had some issues. the company's name show that the company has had some problems in the past. failed more than thaferred safety inspections. this bus specifically had 22 safety violations

adam housley is with us live at big bear lake this afternoon there. checked out the scene where investigators say the suspect was hiding, right? >> yeah, shepard. we he had a chance to basically go right up to the front door. we couldn't go inside, of course. they are trying to figure out how long he has been there. you have got believe they have some indication how long that was. of course, they are not passing that along to us. when we went to that front door and walked up just really feet away from a lot of the press briefings were held. this is what we found. >> it's a short hike from where his truck was found burning. the theory is christopher dorner made his way through these woods amongst these cabins and in unit 203. here the cleaning lady bumped into him after several days authorities believe. there is even a screen off the back window. what's also interesting is news crews were staying within feet of this cabin and also within view the daily press briefings. >> once again, shepard, they are trying to figure out how long he had been there you

adam housley live from our l.a. bureau now. what else do they know about how this happened, adam? >> reporter: well, jon, a number about things coming in to us this morning. first of all you saw the video that came in as helicopters got above the crash scene came in after the sun came up. this happened after dark. the scene was horrific. investigators are searching the surrounding area in the fields for pieces of evidence as this goes on. 43 people were involved in this, a bus and two other vehicles. 17 are still hospitalized. five are in critical condition. right now the official death toll is eight but the california highway patrol expects that to go up to 10. the accident happened at 6:30. the bus returned from a day of sking in california back to mexico. the driver says he lost control of brake issues. the chp said it could have been because of speed. freeway is still shut down. the bus collapsed on itself once it rolled. you see blood on the side of the bus as people were thrown out through windows. debris sever where. they expect this freeway, highway, two-line highway to be

adam housley has the latest. he is watching it from los angeles. so she's been testifying adam about the relationship between herself and the man she now admits she killed. at times it has been really graphic stuff. tell us about it. >> reporter: graphic including their personal relationship as well. she came out right away first day on stand and first thing basically said she admitted killing him. over the course of the next two days on the stand so day one, day two, this would be day three she has methodically gone through every relationship she had with the help of course of her defense team over the course of her time since high school up until now. at the end of the day yesterday when she finally started talking about her relationship with travis alexander, the man she is accused of killing back in 2008. and they're starting to get into what appears to be a line of questioning that will lead her to say that he was controlling and potentially abusive. but, jon, we'll know more about this as this examination from her defense team continues this m

adam housley is joining live from los angeles. good to see you. what more can you tell us? >> reporter: it was quite a press conference when we got more information. authorities say they believe that that press conference that he did die due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound. there is also some question as to whether or not he may have been injured the final autopsy will be released to the public will give us a better idea of what went down. they did show some of the weaponry that dorner had been using over his course of reign of terror, from high powered rifles to ten silencers. one of the rifles has word vengeance on the butt of the rifle. that was used to shoot out officers and kill four different people over the course of time. when you talk to officers who were there on tuesday when it went down at the cabin, they will tell you it was extremely dangerous for officers. >> the entire time we were there he would shoot at us. the officers were forced to take cover. we felt based on his behavior he was laying in wait for us if we tried to near the cabin, there was going to
