adam housley live at san francisco airport with more. adam. >> reporter: good morning, guys. actually we have a lot of new information for you. in the last half hour we've learned a number of things. the chinese consulate are saying the two victims were 16 years old girls from china. that's from the consulate this morning in san francisco. of course, there's a very large chinese community here. i've just spoken with the ntsb in person. they are telling me a number of things. first of all, they did get a chance to get out there. they had spotlights on the plane. got preliminary information and investigators have since gone back to their hotel to get a couple hours of rest before they get up again, get going full bore when the sun comes up. a better chance to look at the debris field. we foresee from the aerial video from earlier yesterday evening. that debris field will be long. it will be a number of days before they believe it will be cleared up. san francisco international airport will probably not be back to normal for a week. they bel

adam housley joins us live. what's the latest on the investigation this morning? >> you guys make a good point about the pilot only having 43 hours in the 777 before. 10,000 hours overall. the last day and a half in crash happened they will tell you the san francisco runway is not the easiest one to land on. it is considered to be a more difficult runway to land on because you come in over water and come over that jet at this where the plane hit on saturday morning. then you would theoretically land on the runway. that runway is still shut down as the ntsb investigation continues. we spoke with ntsb investigators they told us it would be a little longer than normal because of the extent of the accident debris field which is several hundred yards. the video come in from ntsb is absolutely amazing. you see the debris spread along the runway you can see parts of the landing gear you can see luggage and metal from aing ams and everything then you see the fuselage itself ntsb investigators being out there. we have the new crash video shot just across the bay gives you

adam housley joins us with the unfolding details at the san francisco international airport where he'sood morning. we talked about the different details have come out. it seems like something new comes out every hour or two, even overnight. ntsb continues to provide more details. you talk about the time line. look at the video, this coming from across the bay. gives you an idea of why there are so many witnesses to this crash. you have a situation in san francisco where the airport sits next to san bruno and the hillsides with a lot of homes and also there are hotels along the waterfront that look just across the bay to where the jetty is located, where the runway begins. you also can see where the crash took place. the video shows that plane coming to a rest. the slides deploying. people sliding down the slides. you can see those quite dramatic video as you might imagine from that crash on saturday morning. also we have video that's come from directly at the crash site. this comes to us from the ntsb. you can see the debris field they've been talking about which spreads over a couple

we heard adam housley say they seem to be in good condition. when will they be interviewed? what could they say? how important is that interview process in piecing what happened together? >> well, the interview process will likely take place today. the ntsb likes to get to witnesses and participants in these kinds of events as quickly as possible. so they will likely be interviewed today. at the same time, they're going to be checking their work schedules over the past week to make sure that these pilots were not fatigued. that they were ready to do their job. and then as has been mentioned, people are going to listen to that voice recorder and make sure that the pilots performed their checklists correctly and that they were what they call situationally aware. that they knew where they were. they knew what was going on. generally in a landing like this, a visual flight landing, one pilot is handling the controls. the second is calling off the sync rate which is essentially the altitude. they will check and listen to see that that was taking place in an appropriate manner. so

adam housley is live at the san francisco international airport, where he has been monitoring all the developments. adam, we expect this news conference. what sort of update do you think we will get? >> reporter: well, first of all, we are expected to hear an updated number of victims. we are told more than 180 people were transported after that crash yesterday. to put that into perspective, some were helicoptered out of here, some were taken via ambulance. others went in carc. over 180. not 9 hospitals, but to 11 area hospitals. there are a number of people in critical condition. they are trying to give us exact numbers. we have heard 6 people in san francisco general are in critical condition. but 10 other hospitals have people as well. and there are three press conferences, the first one this morning with san francisco officials and then we will hear from san francisco general hospital. and later, as it is planned. as of right now, the ntsb will give us a few details. they have a long ways to go. there is a massive debris field. the plane came down, bounced a couple of times. they

our adam housley is at san francisco international airport and joins us now. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. the california ntsb team was here within hours and joined by the washington team overnight. they had a chance to get out there and get a preliminary look. they tell us that two black boxes have been recovered in very good condition. they've already been flown back to washington, d.c. and are being analyzed. they tell us when you look at that fuse ladies and gentlemen, when you look at that wreckage, it is amazing that so many people walked away from that krark unharmed. take a listen to one of the survivors. >> it was cracked on the right side. we managed to open the door. i could see debris, it looked like a piece of the wing. >> reporter: now the two victims were two teenage girls from china. they were on their way to los angeles through san francisco as part of a summer camp. theired abouties were found outside of the plane. we've not been told as to what caused their deaths. the rest of their group did survive the crash and is here in san f

adam housley joins us live from los angeles. are we seeing the most brutal temperatures in all of this today, adam? >> across the desert regions. talking about death valley in southern california, the valleys in southern california. it's weird. for being another part of the country you notice the cloud cover that comes in when it's so hot and humid. you don't see that here in california but in los angeles we are seeing it in los angeles. it's because of the extreme heat all up and down the state. california and the southwest. it's extremely dry. in death valley 128 degree. today the high expected to be 125. the overall high was in 1913. there are stories of tourists in vegas where it was 117 who rented cars to drive out there to experience this extreme heat. the heat has become deadly. we know of a couple of elderly people in the las vegas area who died due to having no air-conditioning. it's a hot, dry time in the southwest, that's for sure. march, back to that tragic wildfire story. how did the heat contribute to what happened

jon: adam housley, thank you. we'll speak to a former director of the nstb. he has looked at crashes like this in the past. what agents might be looking for right now. jenna: quite a day when it comes to news and plane crashes. we have the information on the deadly air crash in alaska killing all 10 people on board. rick leventhal is in the newsroom with all this rick? >> reporter: this was less than 24 hours after the asiana crash in san francisco. the deadly air crash in alaska worst in that state in 25 years t happened southwest of fairbanks. commuter plane crashed killing the pilot an all nine passengers on board. the aircraft, the otter was fully engulfed in planes when responders first arrived. three miles from the airport. the fire captain said they could see a big black plume of smoke immediately after the incident when they headed to the scene. took them 10 minutes to put out the fire as you can see is on the side of the runway. all 10 victims were still inside the plan. an ntsb go-team left washington to investigate the crash. the company confirms t
