adam kinzinger said my party's soul has been smothered. how do you leave the week feeling? do you feel optimistic, or do you not dare? >> you know how we are, hopeful. we've got a lot of work to do. we're in it to win it as joe scarborough said this morning. i think there was an unforced error by not having any palestinian-americans speak. i know this. there's an energy, an enthusiasm, and now as coach walz said, we're in the trenches engaging in the blocking and tackling so we can get the ball down the field, and get this field goal and win this election and save american democracy. >> rev, how do you feel at the end of the four days? >> i feel guardedly hopeful, guardedly in the sense that i do not want people that i spent the whole week at the democratic convention to leave so jubilant that they do not do the work. they seriously need to be prepared that donald trump is going to fight with everything he has. this man's not fighting for an election, he's fighting for his life. he's facing three more trials. he's facing a sentencing on 34 felonies on september 18th. his mo

i would say that adam kinzinger is a veteran and i think for people who have served this country in uniformh to defend the country against threats foreign and domestic, they view this election through that lens, through the oath to protect the country and i think adam has made very clear that he does see trump as a threat both on the january 6 committee and saw in great detail the efforts to overturn the free and fair election and that of course is a challenge, a dangerous challenge for our democracy and even as we sit here today, the former president is laying the groundwork for potentially again challenging the election. we have a process in the u.s., once the votes are cast, if you think something went awry you can go that route but after all the courts have ruled i think as americans we have an obligation to accept the outcome and move on and i think adam sees very clearly that that is not what happened in 2020. caitrÍona: you were in the capital january 6. stephanie is describing -- will it be an issue for people who do not want to vote for trump as a result of what happened? >> there

number one, i think anybody who puts on the uniform, adam kinzinger, walz, vance, and anybody else who puts on the uniform deserves our thanks. there are heroes. they protect our freedoms and i think that ought to be set up front when we're having these debates. number two, i think anybody who goes into politics it's going to have their record scrutinized. i think it's pretty clear evidence laying out there now that at times walz may have embellished his record. now, you can decide that's not a big deal. you can say it is a huge deal. you can say you don't care about it, but when you go into politics, you are going to have you're records, scrutinized. it doesn't minimize the fact that he served honorably for over 20 years, but you get into the political arena, everything you've ever done is going to be looked over. so i think it's fully appropriate for them to look at walz's record. i mean, they're looking over everything j.d. vance ever said about himself. i think they're going to look over everything. walz said about himself congressman, so the sound from walz saying that he carried

adam kinzinger speaks on the final night. this really is the projection of a coalition movement. >> that's what they are really, really wanting to underscore here. i have been talking to both convention sources and campaign source ps. they tell me this night apart from being a big night for vice president harris, it's going to be about national security. adam kinzinger, a former republican congressman, but also someone who is a veteran is going to be speaking tonight. so will leon panetta, the former cia director. there's a real emphasis on america's place in the world, maintaining america's place in the national stage, and also supporting the military, supporting veterans, saying this is a national security issue to not have former president trump come back in office. i have also been talking to people about how vice president harris sees this moment. she really sees this as important to lay out policy and to lay out the things she's going to do, but she also sees this as a moment for people to say, we are the decent people

let's go back now to congressman adam kinzinger, who is very kindly stayed with us through that. we just wanted to make sure we're getting everybody the latest on that ongoing story is she selects her running mate congressman, i also wanted to ask you about this rally that the former president had last night in atlanta. he went after the very popular republican governor there, brian kemp, among other elected republicans in the state of georgia. what do you make of this strategy? and in a battleground state that likely it is now back in play well, i mean, it's the dumbest strategy because again, the vast majority of republicans in georgia, like kemp independence like kemp, and even some democrats like camp and voted for him to go after him as like and again, just from an analyst perspective, it's nonsensical, it's bizarre, but here's the thing. >> donald trump to his credit is really good at kind of sensing the crowd, knowing where applause lines are. you can actually, if you watch him, see him adjust what he's saying in the moment to get those applause lines and so he had a crowd

geoff duncan, adam kinzinger, that's just to name a few kinzinger has it's a pretty plumbed spot on thursday that's some prime real estate. who do you think this is going to draw? >> well, this is really important because what i think it showed because as you don't have to agree with kamala harris on every issue, in fact, you're never going to a candidate find a candidate you agree with every issue, but you know what this is about the integrity of our republic. it's about the exit central threat that donald trump represents. these are principled conservative republicans who are really saying, look, i may not agree with kamala harris on every issue, but i put a premium on making sure we can maintain our republican or democratic institutions kamala harris will do that. she's smart, she's an attorney. donald trump tried to bring it down last time. and what's to say he won't tried to bring it down again. >> some of them will also say that democrats need to do a lot to address the issues of the economy, inflation, immigration, some of the issues that trump holds it's better on abortion obviously

. >> jamie gangel is reporting that on thursday night, republican congressman adam kinzinger, former republican congressman adam kinzinger, who's from chicago, is going to speak and endorse kamalaharris he i don't think that he agrees with kamala harris on very much, but he is one of the republicans like liz cheney and others who sees trump is such an existential threat to the united states. does that kind of endorsement have an impact? >> well, you put that up against save doug ducey of arizona this week. he's somebody who has been kind of maybe not critical jb, not the right word, but that may have been a surprise to people to seize doug ducey say, i'm endorsing kari lake and donald trump's. so right now, there is really a divide where for among those republicans who have been critical of donald trump, to what extent does kamala harris sort of force you to say you're in or you're out. this is a moment of clear division and clear difference between these two candidates. and so while you do have they, adam kinzinger's who are leaving, you do have also the folks like say that ducey wh

i did want to ask you what you thought of adam kinzinger's speech last night because i think the tone i thought resonated with a lot of americans last night the way he talked about putting country over party is something you talked about during your presidential campaign. what did you think? >> well, i have admiration for adam kinzinger and he's taken a courageous path there it's interesting that he spent most of his time, of course hitting trump and explaining why he would be dangerous for our country. he was not as much a pro kamala harris speech as it was donald trump is to greater risk for our democracy. any also pointed out very appropriately that which side you're on, we can be americans that love our country and love veterans. and what the best for our country i think it did give comfort and really reinforce the message that they had all week that we want to join forces to protect the future of america. i thought he was effective in that way. >> alright, well, governor asa hutchinson, it's always good to talk to you, sir. really appreciate your time this morning we'll see you d

what adam kinzinger did not talk about is promoting a candidate who is for price controls that is not a conservative republican position to take. and so i think what we're looking at is a larger focus on the policies of these two administrations, i think will be more interesting, rather than who finds their way to the biggest stage so he did there real quick before you go the can they keep this is this durable? >> it's been a question i've been asking for three-and-a-half, four weeks. is this durable over the course of the next 70 plus days? >> and it's incredibly fair question, but at this point they have been able to pull it off every obstacle that that has been put in her path she has been able to hurdle over it i mean, if you look at some of the numbers that the interest and attention and excitement that she has generated has been truly unprecedented. i saw statistics today that 2.3 million individual donors in the last month to the harris campaign? i don't even think that included who did this past week, that means that something close to 1% of the country donated to her campaign
