meteorologist adam klotz has a look at conditions there and across the nation. adam?tropical storm lane, that's what it became as it passed by the islands. it is continuing to move away, now weakening to a tropical depression lane, winds at 35 miles-per-hour. even though this is now moving away from the island and will continue to do so, just a little bit of residual moisture especially on the big island as you see a little bit of rain. this is some of the tropical moisture continuing to fall today. it moves further away tomorrow that it will dry out, a normal pattern for the islands. the ground is already saturated. here's how it is forecasted to move as it will track away by tomorrow leaving the islands heading back out to open sea. the story in the middle of the country has been some extreme heat. summer is not over. look at this, current temperatures, 93 degrees in kansas city. 92 degrees in chicago. we've had a bit of a reprieve here on the east coast the last few days. all this warm air is going to be funneling back in, and it is going to be feeling like summer

we have adam klotz and extreme weather sent to tracking the storms path. but first escort to steve harrigan on the ground in honolulu. reporter: molly, they were real fears here in honolulu that this could be a major storm that might make a direct hit. instead it does not seem that way at all. we've seen remarkable degradation of the storm over the past 48 hours or from a category five, major hurricane not just a tropical storm. it is really a rain event at this point. but some of the state getting hit hard by that rain. the big island more than 40 inches falling in some places. more than 30 over parts of the island as well. it has caused some flash flooding, landslides, major roads blocked off and some home rescues as well. the governor says the state is still not out of the woods yet. >> i would just like to emphasize that there still is the potential for flash flooding and rain damage due to lane, there still is a lot of moisture in the air. the partnership, and emergency responders will still remain on the job monitoring the status of the storm and kee

adam klotz is in the fox extreme weather center with an update on the storm and what to expect in your >> hey there, jon. harvey was the wettest hurricane on u.s. record. we now know that what was hurricane lane isn't going to be in the top five as they continue to see heavy rain. as much as 45 inches of rain it was reported in some areas on the big island, and that's where they have gotten the brunt of it. we have good news, winds continue to die down as the system is falling apart. currently at 50 miles-an-hour. notice the direction. it had been moving closer and closer to the islands, but how the we see it shifting to the west -- but now we see it shifting to the west at 7 miles-an-hour. that means it is leaving the islands and will continue to do so. there are still spots among the island chain particularly the big island where you continue to see showers. as it moves farther west, that does mean we will clear off probably later tomorrow with all the rain. here's a look at how that is going to move. away from the islands. as it moves it continues to weaken becoming a large low pres

meteorologist adam klotz with the extreme weather center.'t have extreme hurricanes this time. >> that is something we are still paying attention to. 17 named storms, 10 of those and these are the major tracks. we haven't seen it so far just yet and we are talking about the atlantic season, typically runs further up the u.s. coast we don't pay as much attention and has been active in the pacific. we've had four main storms. two of those have been hurricanes that far. but at this point we typically begin to see this ramping up. even though we haven't seen anything yet, it doesn't mean it's over. you do notice the peak there right around september 10th, september 11th. we begin to see this run-up. if we do standing at the video will be picking up now through the end of august when a new into a sober when you see the most vividly in the tropics. looking into the future forecast here, the next five days and this is all the further we can go out. it is completely clear it has been this way for a little while. maybe things pick up, but so far we a

let's get the national forecast now from meteorologist adam klotz who is live in the fox weather centers been wet in the eastern half of the country. that's continuing the next few days. it's also been warm. today's rain especially here in new york city, 71 degrees, that's as warm as it's got throughout the month of august, rarely have we fallen down to 71 degrees in the overnight hours, been in the 90s every day. finally the rain cooling us off a bit. more rain up and down the coast. scattered showers, the southeast has continued to see day after day of rain. unfortunately that's going to be here the next couple of days also. the big system currently moving across the country is in the center of the country. that's where we see a chance for some severe weather. the larger, kind of the northern edge of this, lots of heavy rain up here, but the real line of severe weather is forming there just to the south. so moving through portions of oklahoma into arkansas, missouri, these are the areas we're paying attention to. it is where we can see some severe thunderstorms in the next few hours.

adam klotz is tracking it it's getting bad. adam: it's getting really bad. because of that slow movement all those bands of rain continue to hit the same places over and over and over again. particularly you were getting into hawaii's big island hawaii the western island there, flash flood warnings in that region. particularly on the eastern side of the island because all of that rain hitting the mountains sliding on down and seeing as much as 2 feet. eventually 30 inches in some of those locations. here is your forecast track over the next 12 hours or. so notice it's a weakening storm. category 3 down to a category 1 storm. it's going to make a quick turn out to see. good news for folks how close is it going to get to the islands? it all depends on when that turn happens. something we are still waiting to see. several models here. a couple of these models take it all the way to making landfall. most of them do not. the more this turns away the better this is going to be. no matter whether it makes landfall or not this will be a problem as far as rain fall g

adam clots wit klotz with an upe from the weather center. >> very big storm.rder. category 3 storm at 111 miles per hour it would fall down to a category 2 storm. just below that it's a weakening system. do you notice it's sitting off to the west of the islands. that means everything to its north here that is where the heavy rain continues to fall and it's been a slow move, look at this moving only about 5 miles per hour. because of that, a lot of areas being hit with some very heavy rain. that continues to be a problem special on hawaii's big island. so far spots already seeing as much as 2 feet of precipitation. could be topping off 2 inches. island chain still spots you could see widespread 10 to 20 impletion of rain before this is all said and done. here is the track of this storm, as i said it's weakening, you were level winds tear this thing apart. currently sitting at category 3 will fall down to a category 1 and make a sharp turn out to sea. this turn is really important because it hasn't made it yet. once it makes it a better idea of how much rain eve
