now we are bringing in adam klotz tracking hurricane ian this morning. adam, what are you seeing?we saw latest update from the national hurricane center updating the track and the strength of this storm. it has held steady at category one hurricane, 85 mile per hour winds, slowed down giving it time to drop rain, which is a problem for flooding. it came off the coast of florida as tropical storm and will have spent day back out over warm ocean water. it is picking up more moisture and giving more time for the winds to batter the coast, that is a problem for storm surge. we have hurricane warnings from savannah to myrtle beaches, you don't have to be in the area to see significant impact, everything in red is tropical storm warning. moisture is carried and dropped across the region, flooding is a big concern, the winds, 40 mile per hour gusts pushing ocean water, when the storm gets there, it will drag that water onshore and you talk about storm surge and these are winds as the storm approaches, 50 to 60 miles per hour, nothing like you saw on the west coast of florida. this is sig

adam klotz standing by to tell us the latest. >> dana: first we'll go to phil keating. he is in a beach community a half hour southwest of tampa. sounds like a good place. >> it is. it is old, classic florida. the time to get out of town is now. no joking around at this point. most of the people in this town have evacuated already leaving it a ghost town. there is hardly any humans within the eye can see. the brass monkey over here, a famous restaurant bar and grill boarded up yesterday and sandbags on the ground. across tampa bay mandatory evacuations began yesterday for all neighborhoods along the coast. the real issue is the bay itself and the gulf of mexico. so much water. storm surge could bring it up to as high as the second floor here. about 10 or 15 feet and the rainfall totals will be any where between 10, 15, possibly two feet in some places. it all depends on whether the storm stalls out and starts moving more slowly, dumping more rain or whether it speeds up quick. sandbagging operations have been going on all week long up and down the state. a lot of places

meteorologist adam klotz is standing by with ian's latest track.ert ray is live in fort myers with a look at the damage. robert? >> good morning. as we are starting to see the beginnings of sunlight on this friday, which normally would be paradise down here in southwest, florida. but, indeed, is a nightmare. look at this disaster here. the boats, the vessels, yachts brought up by the surge here this morning. a business, a tiki restaurant bar and the top of it just destroyed. as you can sees a search and rescue continues here this morning. and people will wake up to the disaster that is ensuing across this part of florida and many parts of the peninsula of florida, unfortunately. as you stated, there are 10 confirmed dead. there are hundreds of individuals who have been rescued from the barrier islands down on the gulf of mexico and those rescues and that search is going on 24/7 and will continue around the clock over the weekend. look at this, guys, too, if you can up at this building. this is the tallest structure in fort myers. there's no power.

will tampa could be ground zero but we begin with chief meteorologist adam klotz weather center in new york with the latest track. good evening, adam. >> storm continuing to update in the models maybe moving just a little bit. a powerful storm currently a category 3 lifting up into the gulf of mexico, approaching florida and actually some of those outer bands as you said now stretching across all of the florida keys getting up into the sunshine state. that red polygon that is a toned warned storm typically see on the east side of the storm. tornado watch linger and lift its way up to the north see some of these more isolated tornadoes pop up. we have got plenty of advisories now stretching across the entire state and just in the last hour, the hurricane warnings have been updated now stretching all the way up into orlando as this track has slightly shifted maybe just a little bit to the south and little bit to the east. i will show you that here and we are really looking at a time frame of tomorrow evening, tomorrow afternoon into evening hours. maybe into tuesday morning. but by thurs

meteorologist adam klotz is live in the weather center with the forecast. what's it looking like? start to see these big atlanta storms. i am, however, going to begin with hurricane kay in the pacific, now just the remnants. still leaving a little bit of rain across portions of southern california, an area that typically doesn't see it. it's moving off to sea, dragging that rain with it. this was never a threat of landfall, but it did get a little bit of tropical moisture that typically doesn't get it. you are talking about the atlantic basin in hurricane season, and this is what we're looking at as we speak. actually been unusually quiet, and it still is. we do have earl currently spinning in the north atlantic tracking off to the north and the east, so this is no longer a threat and really never was for the u.s. so what are we looking at next? well, we've got some areas just off the coast of africa, and for the next two months this is what happens. a lot of these fire up off the coast and move their way across the atlantic ocean. so for now things are mostly clear, but as you sai

and adam klotz's stay in here with ian's latest track in south carolina. first we go to charleston. doug? >> good morning. we are seeing things intensify, and it's up to see on tv, but these clouds are flying across as the outer bands of the storm arrived. you see all the boats behind here on the marina, people have chosen to leave their boats here. there's not really a sense of panic, as we've been saying, here in south carolina. they have been reports of some people going to higher ground, but a lot of people are seeing behind. the city of charleston is really preparing for that. one of the things they did was allow residents to park and all the city parking structures for free to get their cars up to higher levels, because this is a city that floods. when we arrived here yesterday, before the storm had even arrived, we saw low areas flooding. that is naturally occurring here any time you get close to high tide. we are not far from high tide as this storm begins to come ashore. it's going to arrive later today. we'll see what it brings with it. a category one hurricane is nothing

let's get the latest from adam klotz, following from the fox weather center.ow does it look thus far? >> neil, this storm strengthens as it spins over the warm waters of the caribbean, it is category 1 with 80 miles an hour t will intensify as it lifts north and watches expand from cuba run being up into florida. this will only hike as the system approaches. here is what we're looking at timing goes, winds go, perhaps winds up 140 miles an hour, this would be a category 4 hurricane across the gulf of mexico, making landfall somewhat wide area that is the cone of uncertainty from as far south as fort myers, stretching towards panama city. around the florida big bend. timing depends if it drifts to the west or to the east. wednesday evening getting up closer to the pampa area by thursday morning. it makes itself up to the florida panhandle, maybe friday morning where the system would land. what is important as you're running up the west coast of florida, it is not only about where this makes landfall. you see there is your center of circulation, that has to hit

meantime to adam klotz at what we're looking at here that has the sunshine state under its grip. what are we seeing now? >> this will continue to strengthen and slow down, which will cause more problems. this storm is 85 miles an hour winds, it's only going to intensify as it lifts over could you be a this evening. the water is warm and you're seeing the hurricane watches up and down florida as that superior is expected to intensify. out over the gulf of mexico, winds at 140 miles an hour. that would be a category four hurricane. then we run into a little r resi resistance. this will slow down a little bit. it's going to lose a little bit of the wind speeds. it's the slowing down that will be significant for this system. so all of a sudden, the storm is sitting out there wednesday, thursday and thursday night into friday morning. if this slows down, that changes the game. the winds are there longer, the storm surge is there longer. the rain is obviously there longer. you can see it in this forecast. the winds battering the coast and then they sit there for a while. it reminds you

let's go to adam klotz. he saw this coming. the fact that it keeps changing direction, that appears to be happening but incrementally. what can you tell us? >> small changes, neil. there's sometime that there will be some of those small changes. it's holding steady, holding strong. still a category three hurricane. 120 miles an hour winds lifting closer and closer up to floor. you can still see the strongest to the north end and the northeastern side of this storm. the outer bands beginning to fall across key west and lifting in to portion of southern florida. the red polygons are tornado-warned storms. we have a tornado watch. this typically happens on this side of the storm, this will likely lift to the north as the hurricane itself continues to work its way up the coast. even if you're not right along the western coast, you're going to be dealing with this system pretty much the entire state has some sort of tropical storm or hurricane advisory currently in place besides the panhandle. here's the current hurricane trek. what

adam klotz with new updates in the weather center.ge arrival is going to look like and if the back end of the storm is as strong as it was when it hit florida. >> i don't want people to think it isn't a big deal. it won't be anything like we saw when it initially made landfall. it is still a hurricane and a storm surge. you see winds here 85 miles-per-hour. that is significantly less. it was 150 miles when it made landfall on the western coast of florida. we're lifting to the north at 14 miles-per-hour and getting fairly close to a point where you start to think about landfall on this system. in the control room i need max weather ten and continue with my forecast. you see category 1 hurricane continuing with that spin. there is your center of circulation. a little messier. you get a whole bunch of moisture with the system. it sat over the atlantic ocean and picked up new moisture that was not there. it weakened as it moved across florida falling to a tropical storm. now you have stronger winds once again and a ton of moisture. you ha

but first to adam klotz in the fox weather center on what's going to turn the sunshine state into a wet and windy state soon. adam: hey, eric. yeah, you're absolutely right. this is the system that's making that move, still a tropical storm as we speak. winds at 45 miles an hour, drifting off to the west at 16 miless an hour. warmer water fuels the system, so as it lifts into the gulf of mexico, it starts to really strengthen. this is going to time out, our forecast cone of uncertainty here. you see beginning to approach the gulf of mexico north of cuba by the time you get into tuesday morning. still over warm water and a wide area where this could turn and run into florida from as far south as perhaps south florida, but it is trending more and more off towards the west, the florida big bend or the florida panhandle. there's several different models , and they are updating every couple of hours. our most recent runs perhaps into the tampa area, but you are seeing more and more agreement that this is going to drift up along the florida panhandle. again, there's time for this to change, s
