adam klotz has the latest for us. >> this rain, this heavy rain continues to fall across the interiorof the new england. the risk is in upstate new york and vermont, areas where they have seen a bunch of rain and more rain is on the way. the darker green shades, a couple more inches of rain. that's on its own enough to do flooding the ground saturated they're. this additional rain will cause more problems. that is why there's an extreme flooding threat there across the entire state of vermont and stretching over in a little bit of upstate new york as well. places that saw a bunch of rain yesterday, have seen it today. it will continue and linger through the overnight hours before pushing off tomorrow. river flooding, it sees about a day of lag. there's areas that we're looking at major flooding getting into northern vermont. 20 feet of river level that is double where the levels are. that is enough that will cause real problems. the other weather story is what is happening back across the midwest and the plains states. you're looking at a risk of seeing storms in kansas, nebraska. str

let's go to adam klotz on where the heat is on and how bad it could get. what's the latest? >> the heat is on for a lot of folks. 156 million americans will be experiencing temperatures today that at least are in the 90s. some folks will see it higher than that. heat alerts stretching from california, texas, florida. the hottest temperature out there, heat index, the heat plus the humid. it's the sticky air. we're up to 115 in the middle of the country. that's in oklahoma. today forecasted highs in tampa will climb to 112. this is florida. you think let's jump out in the ocean, cool off. think again. the water temperatures around the peninsula climbing in to the 90s. there's no relief across the sunshine state. they're dealing with extreme heat. of course, that's not the only place. if you look to the weekend across the desert southwest, every one of these record spots could be a record breaking high. temperatures getting close to 120 in some of these locations. 116 in las vegas. 118 in phoenix. these are not record highs just for the day. these are all-time record highs. it

let's go to adam klotz, what we're looking at as far as this widespread heat wave and, of course, somes to deal with as well. and flooding in other parts of the country. adam. adam: yeah, there's the a ton of stuff going on here. i'll get back to showers in just a moment, but to touch on the heat as well as all of these storms that we're talking about, there's a large area here particularly across the desert southwest, but a lot of folks are feeling the heat. if you're looking for record-breaking heat, that is across the desert southwest. every one of these little icons could be a record-breaking high. you're talking about in some cases # 17 degrees, # 18 degrees. this is really -- # 118 degrees. the one place where it's going to be cooler is the other side of the country. the showers might knock some of that heat autoof -- out of the air. there is a flood watch continuing to be in place. we know how hard hit parts of new england were over the last week. unfortunately, more rain is on the way. the ground's already saturated, not a lot of places for this to go. a ton of humidity across
