adam raney is in mexico with more. >> reporter: according to this report and what we have seen first hand there's a ban for migrants getting on the train. as many things in mexico, the rules made are not always followed. we have seen migrants riding the rails, "the beast", since the ban was put in place. we met women along the tracks, every day they go out to meet the trade, bringing food for those that want to get off the train, and those showing up on not. they allow them to stay at their shelter. despite the ban, people are getting on in smaller numbers, as you see in this report. >> reporter: meet this group of women - they feed the migrants riding the train that carries them north to the u.s. border. their leader norma has been doing this for almost 20 years. waiting for the train. it's known as "the beast", and carries migrants from central america to mexico. back at the shelter she asks new arrivals why they left home. >> i left honduras because there is in no work. we can't live there because of crime. my children couldn't go to school. one of my sons has been killed. >> that

as adam raney reports. some are embracing the idea -- but others are not. >> slugs shot, collected and saved. all part of an official gun registration. vigilantes amassed all this firepower for a war against one of mexico's fiercest cartels but now that the knights templar has largely disappeared from michoacan, the government is telling the vigilantes to stand down. once registered, vigilantes can keep their guns / but starting this saturday, they can no longer patrol as so called self defense units. they have to be folded into a new police force. >> we are going to keep working as rural police, as rural defense forces. we are the people, legal and uniformed. >> the security commissioner for michoacan says anyone patrolling without official authority after saturday will be arrested. >> from may 11th any self defense member carrying a gun, patrolling and trying to rid the streets of criminals on their own without being in an official uniform or without the authority from the state will be detained. >> some

adam raney joined the search in western mexico. >> hours before dawn vigilantes load up and fuel up. one of the last. an 18-hour journey takeses from the foothills into the rugged hearts of the knights templar. a cartel that has been on the run or hiding out in the months since vigilantes and police worked together. the first sign of trouble. radio chatter from cartel look outs. the foot soldiers - some barely 18 are sure they've been spotted. their leader says despite the danger they must keep up the fight. >> we don't want the knights templar to regroup. if they do. they'll throw children occupant. >> at a one time camp for the cartel the leader meets the top authority, who is munting. the police rely on the vij landies knowledge. they spend the day looking for clues on each stop the trail is cold, a sign that the pray is a step ahead of them. their search is anything but stealthy of the towards the end of the day a telling moment. they come upon a group of vigilantes with weapons drawn. they suspect them of being cartel members. suspicions are common, hard to prove. no shot was fi
