joining the discussion is adam smith of washington.c member of the house armed services committee. thank you very much for joining us. the senate armed services committee has the duty of the confirmation process but you have jurisdiction over that same department. you will be hearing testimony from the next secretary of defense repeatedly. what are the issues that you see in the confirmation. >> he lacks credibility for the job based on all of these reports. his mother wrote that email in 2018 six years ago. it's not like he was a college student. a clear pattern of behavior have been developed. certainly drinking too much and treating women horribly. it just undercuts credibility to run the pentagon as a starting point. he refuses to address the issues. we have to hear from him. you have all of these accusations against you, what was happening? he needs to address that. i don't know how he could but he can't simply ignore it. also he has never run in anything remotely close to the size of the pentagon and never worked at the pentagon.

i appreciate so much the leadership of chairman mike rogers and ranking member adam smith for their diligentork for providing this crucial national defense authorization act for peace through strength. this is a bipartisan legislation including critical provisions for the palmetto state including its military bases and critical missions at the savannah river site. as a 31-year veteran of the army national guard myself along with three son who was served in iraq, egypt and afghanistan, i appreciate this legislation which supports the deployment of the national guard to the southern border, cuts inefficient programs and bureaucracy and guts programs at the department of defense. it reaffirms congressional support for our allies and partners in the indo-pacific by countering chinese party influence by fully funding military information operations assistance to the region. it also ensures israel has adequate stocks of air defense interceptors to defense itself against the regime in tehran. dictators like putin and assad must be deterred from invasion. the ndaa fully supports plutonium production
