well, i i actually i became homeless because of my drug addiction i had foot surgery in early 2015. i was sent home with a 30-day supply of oxycodone for the pain and that kind of developed into an addiction that spiraled over the next couple of years into heroin. and then eventually fentanyl and in early 2018. i actually know was given a choice by my wife to either go to treatment or leave the home because of my addiction, you know, i wasn't paying bills. i had quit my job all these things were happening and i made the decision to leave the home at that time because the addiction was just too strong and i spent the next six months living on the streets of san francisco in the tenderloin. homeless hopeless and addicted to heroin and fentanyl and it wasn't until i actually got in trouble with the criminal justice system and ended up in jail. when i got clean and then i went to a six month inpatient treatment program here in san francisco where i found recovery. and now i'm about three and a half years into recovery, and i'm an advocate now for recovery and for changes to our approach

it is devastating seeing our family and community members suffering from drug addiction, and the terriblegrowth of mental health in our community. i also know that the committee talked about city ordinance, but we need to have different approaches to services. a lot of different services, some people need to take time and really be -- tk dynamic about the different approaches that we can use to help our community members. the biggest issue i have is we don't want to continue to make people comfortable in this unhealthy lifestyle. i also believe that a.p.d. has also come up with solutions to help the problem. i know steve adomi, and a lot of the community organizations that he worked with and collaborating with have done an excellent job in trying to think dynamically, and truly taking time to try to understand the community. we can all look at different statistics of what worked and didn't work, but we need to give the community enough dynamic treatment programs so they can see what works for them, or, hey, this stabilization may give me a little more structure to succeed and get closer b
