in this case here in addison, the plane veered off shortly after takeoff into this hangar. to be either heat damage or water damage and missing windows in that hangar. there's obviously a lot more damage we cannot see from here. there was just a plane and a helicopter inside the hangar at the time, thankfully no people. the fire department is also just a couple hundred yards away so the response was fairly immediate. we don't know anything about the victims at this point other than two of them were crew members and there were eight passengers on board. all of them were headed towards st. petersburg. this type of plane was beechcraft super king airplane 350, which is probably the type of jet you think of when you think about a private jet. cnn safety analyst says this jet is incredibly reliable, has a good safety record as well. as for a black box inside of that aircraft, if it was used as charter, it should have a black box, it's required to have one. if it was used simply for private use, it may not have one. so the investigation is continuing. they expect a preliminary re

cnn's scott mclean is live in addison. so scott, what happened? >> reporter: hey, brooke.stigators got onscene late last night and so today is really their first full day on the scene to try to figure that out. and figure out what exactly happened here. the lead investigator said that her initial look showed that there is extensive damage from the initial impact and a lot more damage from the fire that followed. you can see some of the damage to the hangar here. this is just what you can see from this vantage point. there's a lot more that you cannot see. now, thankfully, there was nobody inside the hangar at the time, but all ten people who were aboard that aircraft were killed. there were two crew members and eight passengers bound for st. petersburg, florida. now, this flight, this plane, veered right into that hangar, right after takeoff. it is oddly similar to an incident in hawaii, about a week and a half ago, in another small plane that killed 11 people. now in this particular incident, this plane, a beach craft super king air 350, it is a dual engine plane, a turbo
