adina moshe, one of the hostages, her husband was buried while she was being held captive. she did not get to go to his funeral. you see moments like that, and it speaks to the bittersweet nature of all of this. the question is whether or not there are going to be more hostages brought home after this four-day truce is over, if it's extended. we are hearing from hamas for the first time saying they do want to extend that deal. that is not something we had heard from the group so far. tonight a source tells me israel's war cabinet here in tel aviv has been discussing that possibility. it's not clear where it will end up yet. but as part of this pause now under way, an additional 39 palestinian prisoners and detainees were released from israeli jails today. you saw this moment in the west bank as they were being welcomed back by their families. also part of this pause, more than 100 trucks carrying desperately needed aid like food and baby formula arrived in gaza, in north gaza, today. i want to bring in cnn's chief global affairs correspondent matthew chance. you were outsid

adina, 72. karen, 54. daniel, 45. doron, 34. emilia, 5. raz, h4. aviv and channa. we have coverage of the developments unfolding. let's begin with clarissa ward at the children's hospital near tel aviv where some of these people will be treated. clarissa, what stages of the process are these hostages in right now? what are you learning? >> reporter: well, wolf, everybody here very much anxiously arriving -- awaiting the arrival of some of those potential hostages. they're expecting children and particularly those children who might be traveling with their parents as well such as emilia, her mother daniel. and i'll step outside of the shot so you can see as we push into the helipad behind me. we have seen a lot of activity at that helipad over the past couple of hours. we have seen a number of ambulances parked out, we have seen a lot of paramedics there, people on their phones, some security personnel and a sense of heightened activity as we await the potential arrival of some of those now freed hostages. there is obviously been a huge amount of thought and conside

hanna katzir and adina moshe also among those released tonight.bviously you can see what a bittersweet moment this is for so many of these families. joining me now, former foreign policy adviser in the george w. bush administration, also the co-author of the timely book "the genius of israel" that just came out last month. dan, first of all, let me just get your reaction to what we've seen today, these hostages, not just the 13 israeli hostages, also the 11 others, the thai nationals, the filipino that have all been released today. what's your reaction to what you saw? >> my reaction, kaitlan, is this has been a country that's been in trauma, a people that's been in trauma since october 7th, and a country that's been at war. and i think the war and the task at hand has, kind of, muted, for many people, many israelis, just the trauma it is going through. and i feel like the last few hours, there's obviously been a pause in the war fighting. and the real trauma of what israel is dealing with in the some 50 days since october 7th and will be dealing

you more about some of the hostages who have been released now we have picture i can surely know of adinardered on the 7th of october. she is the metre of four children —— mother, and herfamily said she's back now in the arms of her grandchildren and children, returns or hobbies of cooking and growing plants and pictures we can surely as well of margalit moses, she's a cancer survivor, nature lover, loves birds. and she has poor health but the information that has been released about her, she was on a cruise in northern norway in the summer, plans to go to mozambique later, hopefully, loves knitting sweaters for her grandchildren. these are stories of people who have been held hostage in gaza for these last seven weeks are so and have now been released emilia aloni and daniel aloni, and we saw their pictures on the wall. emilia aloni, six years old was kidnapped, they were visiting daniel aloni sister, sharon, on on that morning on the 7th of october daniel aloni since her last message to the family she was telling them their were terrorist in the house and they were afraid they would not

also 76-year-old hanna katzir, 72-year-old adina moshe also among those released today. lot of happy news for those families of those hostages who are now back and safe and being medically evaluated. i'm joined by idf spokesman major duron spielman. thank you so much for being here tonight, sir. what do we know, as these hostages have been reunited with their families but also taken to hospitals and medical centers. what do we know about their conditions right now? >> thank you for having me. the physical side of the hostages, thank god, seems to be pretty much in order. none of them have life-threatening ailments that was identified at the initial medical check. now, i think, as you very covered it so well, they're going to be going through a mental roller coaster. again, this is the side that we don't see. this is the side that's going to take time to unfold. they're reuniting with their families. and these are all people who do not know the extent of october 7th. what the entire world knows, these 13 people and the other 11 foreign nationals, do not understand what ha

and danielle and her daughter, and adina, and magda, and we're seeing them hugging families members as they arrived and this is a 9-year-old boy who celebrated his birthday, hugging his father and brother and hugging his mother as well who was also taken hostage. because of the remarkable condition that a lot of the hostages are after nearly seven weeks in captivity. the release today is expected to be different. they will skip the air base and go straight to the hospital and then they'll meet their family members. as part of this deal was the increased humanitarian aid to gaza and that's what is reportedly creating the snag in this release of these hostages, this potential delay, so far the cease-fire has allowed the flow of more critical aid like medical aid, medical equipment, and shelter equipment for the more than a million people who have been displaced because of the fighting, overall, hamas is expected to release these 50 hostages, including potentially three u.s. american citizens by monday, in exchange for 150 palestinians. so far it seems that the cease-fire has held. there

their tearful reunions with family caught on camera, and among the hostages freed so far, 72-year-old adina returned over the weekend to what family she has left in israel. she came back to no husband, no home, and no community having lost almost everything in the october 7th hamas attack. now, though, she is out of immediate danger, but she is just beginning the long road to recovery from a horrific 50-day ordeal. and joining us now is her nephew, out of the gate how is your aunt doing? >> she is recovering after being in captivity for seven weeks. her body is still weak, but her mind is so strong. and she was happily released yesterday from the hospital. and she's happy to be among her family again, especially after seeing her son, it was very emotional meeting because she didn't know what happened with him. he was living a few houses next to her. and he survived the massacre together with his wife and five children. and all the time she was in captivity, she didn't know what happened with him. so once she saw him, this was like a beam of light in the whole darkness around. >> i understan
