i think maybe the adp jobs number may show that as well.t's creeping up in the data. adp comes out at 8:15, expected to show 140,000 private jobs added in the month of september. what if on friday when we get the big government jobs report and we look under the hood, we see that wages aren't increasing as fast as they were. is there anything you're looking at at in particular that would really, really worry you at this point in economic cycle? >> yeah, i think if you look -- if wages are not rising, i think that's going to be a problem. i think if the numbers start to change, if we see -- if we miss the number badly and of course the street will interpret that, well, the fed's going to cut rates, so that puts us in a different position but the end of the day we're seeing a weakening economy globally and you cannot avoid it when everybody else is doing the same thing and the fed is obviously -- they've lost tir mind as well. lauren: i want to get to the fed but speaking of rates, there's a story in the wall street journal that people are goi

the adp print we got this morning is not something you pay much attention to.n you look within that print, it showed there were basically no pickup in manufacturing jobs. only 8000 of the jobs were in manufacturing, the rest were in services. that adds to fears of the manufacturing slow down. you are seeing that play out in a lot of cyclical stocks. david: the backdrop of all of the pmi's in the united states and overseas. ?hat about sectors our manufacturing sector is getting hit hard? kailey: the cyclical sectors are getting hit. if you look at the imap, every sector is down. the ones down the least are the ones that typically would be more expensive. real estate, utilities. every sector is down at least .7. if you look at the industrials, materials, energy stocks, all down more than 2%. you are seeing moves out of this into more classic safe havens. you have the 10 year yield lower. we are back down past 1.6%. you are also seeing a bid into the yen strengthening against the dollar by .5, as well as gold, now back above $1500 an ounce. you are seeing investor

adp was a surprising number. friday's unemployment number is looming out there, that will probably be bigger and the fact that the market really has baked in another cut for the fed but you have to look at the overall big picture. we are about 5% offer all-time high. we are relatively in good shape. also if you step way back and get a 30,000 foot view from the airplane, we've been at 300-point trading range in the s&p for about five months. we've got to get used to this type of move. i know it's frightening to see 500 points, 900 points, but you gotta remember just two weeks ago we had a 2000-point rally in the dow and that doesn't bother anybody. you can have a 2000-point move up without expecting to see 500-point move down. it's just the way it's gonna be as long as we maintain these index at high level. all in all were in good shape. friday's report will be big. we'll see what they throw at us. >> the reports don't look nearly as bad as the one day or one week mover. the one weeks are just really ugly. were lo

we have seen many false signals, three since the last recession ended in 2009, the adp numbers are nott bad. if we are not hiring because we cannot find workers, then it is not the same problem as companies cutting back. and there are no areas in which we saw big cuts and jobs except for oilfield service workers. we knew that was coming because of the price of oil and lack of business investment. people are still adding jobs, not just as many. his economy slowing or is it harder to find workers? it is not definitive proof we will get a recession as wall street has decided is happening. amanda: i want to bring in michael feroli, you heard from michael mckee that there is a glass half-full way to look at this. is there a possibility of a shock showing up on export data with trade tensions? we been concerned about the economy for some time. then't think the isn is greatest predictor, and it's interesting that it is something the market has latched onto. there are other reasons to be concerned. we've seen slowing and job growth over the past few months. if that trend builds on itself than
