adriana diaz reports from chicago's o'hare international airport. >it is a zoo here chicago's o'hare airport. we are at terminal 3 where the security line has wrapped around at least five times and is now extending down the length of the terminal. now this is in part due to the severe weather moving through the middle of the country which has canceled thousands of flights here at o'hare yesterday. there were more than 13-hundred flights canceled, nearly 300 delays. and this is the nation's second busiest airport. passengers were stranded and scrambling to rebook their travel plans. and it was a similar situation across town at chicago's midway airport. were canceled yesterday. but there is some good news. many of the major airlines are not charging customers for rebooking any travel if they're traveling within the path of the storm. adriana diaz, cbs news, chicago./// ((paul joncich)) > according to the flight tracking service flight- aware, a typical day sees about 150 cancelations. we also checked the mccarran airports website and found a handful

tonight, cbs 2's adriana diaz has more on what led to his firing. >> reporter: chicago mayor morning news conference to announce new changes in the city's police department. changes that start with the police superintendent gary mccarthy. >> this morning, i formally asked for his resignation. >> reporter: his ouster follows community unrest over the police shooting dead of laquan mcdonald shot 16 times by police officer jason van dyke in october 2014. video of the shooting was released last week. 13 months later. when van dyke was charged with first-degree murder. emanuel said mccarthy could no longer lead the department effectively. >> now is the time for fresh eyes and new leadership to confront the challenges the department and our community and our city are facing. >> reporter: among other departmental changes, the mayor announced a new police accountability task force. chicago native and former massachusetts governor deval patrick will serve as senior adviser. patrick once ran the rights division. outside rahm emanuel's office, community leaders called for independent oversight.
