adrienne bankert leads us off from jersey city. >> reporter: tonight, chilling surveillance video captures the horror at that kosher market in new jersey, in what police say was a targeted attack. both suspects slowly emerging from a stolen u-haul van, before one of them aims a high-powered rifle at the store and opens fire. >> there were multiple other people on the streets, so there were many other targets available to them that they bypassed to attack that place, so, it was clearly, that was their target and they intended to harm people inside. >> reporter: police say the two gunned down the owner, mindy ferenz, a mother of five, an employee, miguel douglas and customer moshe deutch. >> a few hundred bullets went into a body of a 24-year-old child. how can we as a community, as people, bear that? >> reporter: one person in the market was injured, but survived the hail of bullets that terrorized jersey city for hours yesterday. the suspects killed in the gun battle identified as 50-year-old francine graham and 47-year-old david anderson. sources tell abc news anderson recently made anti-

here's abc's adrienne bankert. >> reporter: tonight, a shocking murder in a quiet new england town. police departments from three states surrounding these assisted living apartments in westerly, rhode island, just after 10:30 a.m. >> there's multiple victims there. multiple victims. >> reporter: one employee killed. a coworker and a 67-year-old resident wounded. the victims, all women, shot in is the front lobby. >> i'm not sure where the perpetrator is. >> reporter: schools and a hospital on lockdown. businesses sheltering in place. >> we had an officer come in and tell us today about what was going on. >> reporter: police scouring surveillance video, identifying the suspect as a resident at the facility. using a bomb squad robot to go into his room where he was found dead. >> the robot entered and found the suspect, who appeared to have a self-inflicted gunshot wound. >> reporter: the incident shocking the seaside town near the connecticut border. >> these are people who just got up this morning and went to work and in some cases aren't going home to their families tonight. and so

adrienne bankert is in jersey city with the latest. morning, adrienne. >> reporter: good morning to you too, michael. we're in front of this kosher supermarket, a scene of devastation. now, we did check in with authorities at a press conference this morning and they are saying they believe that this location was targeted because of the way the two suspects slowly drove up to the market, calmly opening the door, armed with long guns. this morning, the first glimpse of the aftermath inside that jewish market, the epicenter of that deadly police shootout. the chaos began at this cemetery a little less than a mile away where investigators say detective joseph seals tried to question men who may have been connected to a weekend homicide. they opened fire killing seals and fleeing in a rented moving truck that had been reported stolen. dressed in black and armed with high-powered rifles they drove to a hasidic community where they entered the kosher market and began firing. >> all units are to maintain cover. maintain cover at their location

here's abc's adrienne bankert. >> reporter: a terrifying deadly shoot-out on the streets of new jerseys.w.a.t. teams racing through the streets with guns drawn. two suspects unleashing a barrage of gunfire on officers. >> every time anyone approaches or anyone comes out of cover he opens fire. >> reporter: the gunmen barricading themselves in a jersey city supermarket, hostages trapped inside, innocent bystanders caught in the intense crossfire. thousands of rounds exchanged. >> so we look, then we saw all these cops running from the gunfire. we heard more. pop, pop. we heard automatic weapons. >> reporter: the neighborhood turning into a war zone. one officer was shot in the shoulder. three hostages were killed in the store and another officer was also killed. he was a father of five. 46 schools in the area were put on lockdown. 30,000 kids taking cover in their classrooms. >> i heard gunfire. boom, boom, boom. then after that we just like put our heads -- hands over our head. >> reporter: the first shots rang out at 12:30 p.m. early reports indicate that police suspect the shootings

here's abc's adrienne bankert with the manhunt now under way. >> reporter: tonight, a manhunt for these two armed robbery suspects who shot two people at a denny's in manassas, virginia. the suspects seen on security cameras enter the restaurant after 2:00 a.m. both armed. one pulling a pistol, the other a baton, demanding cash from employees and customers and ordering more than 20 people to the ground. >> one person shot in the stomach and right leg. one person supposedly shot in the head. we're advising now, one tourniquet being applied. >> reporter: as the suspects were leaving, one of the men shot ara4-yengar-old c with their orders. then, police say, yusuf ozgur, picking up a delivery order, w door open for the suspects. he was hit in the head with a baton, then shot to death. >> two males, six foot, all dressed in all black, both with handguns, ran through the parking lot. >> reporter: the 34-year-old hosue thrvivale.sp tom, the suspects didn't even leave with any money. still, police believe that this the occurred in jusce fest chreysildaw ling video tonight. adrienne, thank you.

adrienne bankert is in jersey city with the very latest. morning, adrienne. >> reporter: good morning to you, too, cecilia. yes, an act of domestic terror and a hate crime according to officials. we have some newly obtained video, getting a clearer picture of the moment these two suspects approach the front of this boarded up kosher market. now that video shows they began firing almost immediately on the store and anyone inside. the attorney general says that they've recovered about five weapons from the scene. in addition to that pipe bomb found inside the stolen van that they had actually outfitted with ballistic panels as weapons included an ar-15 style rifle and a shotgun, and we also see on surveillance video the sole survivor of these killings running in panic from the store. the suspects shooting at him as he was able to flee, and he told me he came face to face with one of those shooters, pushing their arm away, redirecting the gun for a moment, and then able to run as fast as he could out of that store. he says the jewish community
